The awards night and some news

It has been a couple of weeks since the Stanley Cup game. You are a little nervous at the prospect of winning the Calder trophy. The only thing that is preventing you from being a nervous wreck is the fact that you have to get ready for the event. You are about to put a necklace on when your thoughts are interrupted.

"Tiger I have something for you," Evgeni remarks as he enters your room. You are impressed at the difference that a suit makes.

"What?" you are now a little curious. Evgeni gestures for you to turn around so you do. You can feel something make contact with the bare skin of your neck.

"You can have a look in the mirror now," Evgeni says. You are blown away by Evgeni's choice. You are glad that Evgeni chose a simple pendant. You assume that he picked an orange stone because of your nickname.

"Thank you, Geno," You respond. You quickly adjust his tie for him.

"We should go," Evgeni remarks. He is right. It doesn't take long for the two of you to arrive at the venue. The good thing is the event is in Pittsburg which means you don't have to travel far. Evgeni leads you through the press stuff. You are glad that it is all quick questions. You are impressed by the lavish nature of the event. Sidney and Iggy are the only people in your team to beat you. It doesn't take long for others to trickle in. You are steadily getting more and more nervous.

"Mia you should relax and enjoy yourself," Iggy remarks. She is right but something tells you that something may go wrong.

"Sorry I'm not used to the hype of the awards night," You respond. The sad thing is the awards night in the DEL was less extravagant. It doesn't take long for the mingling to start. You are joined by Jaylyn.

"Hey Mia congratulations on your nomination for the Calder," Jaylyn greets you.

"Thank you," You respond. You get the feeling that you may not win it but you will enjoy the night regardless of the result. After an hour of mingling the head of the NHL makes it on stage. The chatter soon dies down and the head of the NHL Opens with a speech. It doesn't take long for the presentation to begin. As the presentation goes on you find yourself getting steadily more nervous. It doesn't take long for them to get through the manes of the Calder trophy nominees. You can feel Evgeni's hand gently wrap around yours.

"The winner of the Calder Memorial trophy is Mia Heinrich," The head of the NHL announces. The only thing greater than your surprise is the joy that comes with winning two trophies in two weeks. There is also the added bonus of the applause that is coming from your table. You soon make your way to the stage to accept your award. The only issue is you haven't prepared an acceptance speech because you were certain that you weren't going to win.

"Congratulations Mia," The head of the NHL offers you the trophy.

"Thank you, Gary," You respond. You find yourself making eye contact with Evgeni while you give a short speech. After your short speech, you make it back to your seat. You are met with a round of congratulations. It is the day after the awards night and you are celebrating with Evgeni. He has taken you to one of his favourite places.

"So Tiger how are you feeling after last night?" Evgeni decides to check on you.

"Honestly I'm surprised that I was even considered for the Calder and I haven't gotten over that feeling," You explain.

"Look on the bright side you made it," Evgeni remarks.

"Anyway, how would you feel if I played against you?" You get the feeling that you may have just confused Evgeni.

"What do you mean?" Evgeni asks.

"Well, what I mean is if I played for Team Germany in the IIHF world championship," You clarify.

"I think it will be interesting," Evgeni responds. The good thing is Evgeni seems happy that you want to play internationally. It doesn't take long for the food to arrive. Hopefully, you can play internationally. You get to work on nibbling your food. You are glad that Evgeni is happy for you to play internationally.

"If I do play against you please don't go easy on me," You remark. You can see the smirk appear on Evgeni's face.

"You know I won't," He responds. After an hour of eating and socialising you are getting ready to make some phone calls. You are a little nervous because you haven't talked to your agent since moving to Pittsburg. You find yourself dialling the number anyway. It doesn't take long for him to answer.

"Hello, Mia I was just going to call you," He answers. You are surprised.

"Well I wanted to ask about international play," You open the conversation.

"The thing is I knew you would and so I talked to the selection team and they allowed you to join Team Germany," Your agent explains. You are impressed that he read your mind.

"Thank you, Jay," You end your conversation. You are hit by a wave of relief. You get the feeling that Evgeni may be having a similar conversation. Something tells you that the next couple of months are going to be interesting. The thought makes you giggle.

"хорошо спасиб (ok thanks)," Evgeni hangs up.

"What's got you giggling?" Evgeni soon turns his attention to you.

"The idea that I'll win a faceoff against you," You respond. You know Evgeni will treat you like any other player regardless of the fact that you are his girlfriend. You are soon hit by the realisation that you will be seeing some former teammates again. You seem to be having the best luck this year. Hopefully, you can have the luck to lead Team Germany to victory. The good thing is you will be getting the opportunity to play internationally so it wouldn't be devastating if you lose. It doesn't take long for Mike to gather the team for a meeting. You assume it will be due to the nature of international play.

"I need those who are playing internationally to raise their hands," Mike gets to work. You timidly raise your hand followed by Evgeni, Sidney and Iggy. Mike seems surprised that Matt hasn't put his hand up but you assume they have chosen another goalie instead of him. Mike soon launches into a speech about international play.

"And last but not least. Because I won't be seeing some of you for a couple of months good luck," Mike finishes his speech. The only thing that is left to worry about is where you will be playing but you figure that you will find out later.
