Chapter 6: Reggie's Promise
[WARNING: Fluffy sadness]
Mythily slowly opened his eyes, adjusting to the large amounts of light in the room. He looked around him, without moving. He saw Reggie. Reggie was slouched on a chair and his eyes were almost completely closed. There were big, dark circles under his eyes, and his eyes were red. His hair was messy, and he had tear stains on his freckled cheeks. Mythily suddenly started coughing and sat up, still coughing heavily. Reggie immediately stood up, and hugged Mythily, sobbing. Mythily's coughing ceased.
"You're okay..." Reggie sobbed. "I was so w-worried..." Mythily's head was swimming with what had just happened.
"What... What were those...?" Mythily asked. "Were those... Memories?"
Reggie nodded.
"Yes... They were..." Reggie sat down on the bed.
"You've lived 5 lives before this one. I presume that... It's all coming back to you now..." Mythily was remembering everything. His past friendships, past loves, past enemies.
"And your relived all your deaths... Right?"
Mythily nodded, understanding now. Mythily felt tears tumble down his cheeks and he sobbed. Reggie leaned over and hugged him, holding him tight. Reggie whispered comforting words, and rocked back and forth gently.
"Sshh... It's okay now, it's all okay. I will protect you. I promise I will protect you. We will win this cruel game of life."
Mythily's deaths replayed over and over again in his mind. Each time, he felt he could've done something. He could've helped his side win. Mythily felt it was all his fault they lost. Each time, the Night kingdom lost, because of Mythily, and the people of the kingdom had to live in sorrow with no money, no food, no clean water and horrible shelters for the rest of their lives.
Mythily kept sobbing, he couldn't take the sorrow and guilt he felt.
"I-it was all... M-m... My f-fault!" Mythily cried out between sobs.
Reggie held him tighter.
"No, it was mine... I didn't protect you l-like a true knight..."
Mythily's sobbing calmed down. He hugged Reggie back.
"I-I will protect you. I. Promise." Reggie said, his voice hoarse.
"How long was I out...?" Mythily asked.
"Five days..." Reggie answered.
"Did you sleep?" Mythily said.
Reggie shook his head.
"I was so worried that King made you remember too early. That I failed again." Mythily pulled away and shook his head, looking Reggie in the eyes.
"Don't worry, Reggie. I'm fi-" Mythily's sentence was cut off by King, who tackle hugged him.
"Mythily!" King shouted, "I'm so glad you're okay!" Mythily patted King's back. King hugged Mythily tightly, possibly a little too tightly. Mythily wheezed and patted King's back quickly. King let go and chuckled.
"Sorry," he said, "I'm just so happy to see you again!"
Mythily smiled. "I'm happy to see you too, King."
Suddenly, Mythily's stomach grumbled and started to hurt. Mythily groaned.
"I need some food..."
Reggie picked Mythily up and brought him out to the kitchen, where Talon was making bacon. Talon was also wearing a pink apron with white frills along the edges and purple hearts decorating it. Reggie snickered.
"Nice apron, mom."
"Shut it, you." Talon said, smiling. Mythily inhaled deeply, enjoying the smell of the frying meat. Soon, Talon filled up a plate with a lot of bacon and gave it to Mythily. Mythily happily started eating.
"So," Talon started, "how is it going? Are you all okay?"
"Okay as we ever can be in this situation." Reggie said, King nodded.
"Also, Tanner's coming over soon. He says he found someone, but he won't tell me who." Talon poured a cup of orange juice and gave it to Mythily who took a big sip of it straight away. Reggie sighed.
"Oh boy."
After Mythily finished eating 3 days worth of bacon, 3 grilled cheese sandwiches, 2 glasses of orange juice and 3 glasses of milk, there was a knock at the door.
"I'll get it!" Talon said, running to the door, sliding around each corner due to his fluffy, purple socks. When Talon opened the door, he was greeted by a tired looking Tanner.
"Hello, Talon." Tanner said.
"Hey, Tanner." Talon said, stepping aside to let him in. Tanner walked in, followed by a beautiful woman with shiny Lavender eyes. Talon gasped quietly.
"I presume you remember Jane?" Tanner said, and Talon nodded.
"Uh, you guys hungry?" Taking asked, "there's plenty of bacon and sandwiches." Tanner nodded and looked at Jane, who also nodded gratefully.
Talon led them to the kitchen and gave them plates with several strips of bacon on them and each one sandwich. Mythily was lying on the couch, watching King and Reggie partake in an epic battle of Rock, Paper, Scissors.
"Mythily," Tanner said, "you might want to look over here." Mythily sat up and turned around, resting his chin on the top of the couch. Then Mythily gasped.
"L... Lady Jane!" Mythily exclaimed. He stood up and jumped off the couch, running and hugging Jane who hugged him back.
"Mythily...!" Jane said.
"I missed you, Jane..." Mythily said, burying his face in Jane's clothes.
"I missed you too, Mythily."
Mythily pulled away from the hug to look at her.
"You look so different with modern clothes." Jane chuckled.
"So do you." She said.
The group of Nights spent the rest of the afternoon talking happily, playing games and temporarily forgetting all their troubles and hardships.
