Chapter 5
Aurora woke up, sweating. She wondered for a while why she would be sweating, then all that she had done at the ball came flooding back. She sat up to go find her aunt, when a sharp pain made her lay down again. She stared up at the ceiling, remembering that the ceiling was painted with all sorts of things. But instead of paintings on the ceiling, all she saw was a cloth ceiling. Aurora was confused. She looked around as much as she could, and discovered she was back in her bedroom. Her wig and makeup off, her dress and undergarments off, and she was in her nightie. Her hair was plaited and her shoes were off. The door to her bedroom creaked open and her Aunt came in. The duchess slowly walked to the bed and sat down on the edge. Her Aunt too was in a nightie, her makeup and wig were off, and her natural hair was plaited and hanging over her shoulder. Aurora couldn't believe how beautiful her aunt was. Her hair was a strawberry blonde like Auroras, but even more orange. It glowed like the morning sun, shiny and soft. Her skin was a pale peach colour and her face was the perfect shape. Aurora wondered why she needed the wig and the makeup. They just made her look ugly. The fashion here was horrible and uncomfortable. "Are you all right?" her aunt asked. Aurora could only nod. For a while her Aunt could only stare at the ground in silence. Aurora broke the awkward silence. "Why did Mother never tell me about you?" Her Aunt sighed and continued to stare at the frowned and then looked up at Aurora. "Its a story for another time. I must be going." She hurriedly walked out of the room, trying to keep her face out of Aurora's sight, but Aurora could see that one lone tear trickled down her face and her face went from the pale creamy peach colour to a bright red. Something from her Aunts memory had made her cry. She didn't know what though. Aurora lay back into the pillows and began to fall asleep.
She was interrupted by the loud noise of knocking on her door. She rubbed the sleep out of her eyes, and sat up. The sharp pain came back, and Aurora lay back down. "Who is it!" She called weakly. The muffled voice of Amelia, Auroras maid, came through the door, telling Aurora that she had a visitor. Aurora shouted as loudly as she could for them to come in. The door groaned as Amelia opened it, and a man came walking behind her. He beckoned for Amelia to leave, and she did. "Aurora Helene Juleka Belrose. I have a proposition for you." Aurora began to notice that there was a theme to this mans uniform. I t was all black. Including his wig. He continued talking while pacing around the room. "I am Andre Belmont, Head of the kings Spies. I saw how you saved the king at the ball last night, and I'd like you to become part of The Kings Spies. Except, If you do accept our offer, Not only will you be the first female spy in our organisation, but you will be the first spy for the Queen. How does that sound?" If Aurora didn't have the pain in her spine, she would have jumped for joy. This was exactly what she needed. Some adventure. She had only been at Versailles for less than a week, and she was already bored out of her wits. Aurora nodded her head. "Of course Mousier Andre, You can count me in. But first I think we should let my back heal. "
