Chapter 2
The Carriage rumbled down the driveway of the farmhouse. The pounding of the horses feet echoed in Auroras ears as she stood at the front door, waiting. Her hair tucked neatly under a straw hat, and the same cotton black dress as yesterday, Aurora was not ready. She had heard things about Versailles, and she wasn't ready to face it. The footman took her small bag, containing her most precious possessions. Clambering into the carriage, she sat down. She immediately felt like she was melting. The seats were lined with fur, and the carriage was extra warm. She had never touched anything so soft, so warm. The footman stared at her strangely and she realised she had been stroking the fur. She sat down in the farthest corner of the carriage. The Duke and Duchess sat down next to her, staring at her funnily. She lowered her head in shame. The coachman cracked his whip, and the horses jolted forward, trotting at first, but then break into a gallop. Aurora stared out of the window, noticing all the things she never really noticed before. How green the trees were, how the wind makes the leaves blow gently in the wind, turning them into a swirling painting. All this will not be in Paris, Aurora realised, It will just be bleak, black and grey buildings, streets lined with the poo of horses and humans, and that was exactly how it was. When they finally reached Paris after 2 weeks, Aurora realised her worst nightmare was coming true, the strong stench of animal faeces lingering in the air. How could People live and sleep with this foul stench polluting the air? Only God knew. As the carriage began again after a night in horrible paris, the trip began again, and they went on their way to Versailles. When they finally reached the Palace, Aurora was amazed by the difference between the main city and the Versailles. The Palace was beautiful and extravagant, and bigger than anything she had ever seen before. Maybe this year wasn't going to be so bad.

Michael sat at the entrance to the building waiting to greet anyone who came in. The great gate opened, and in walked the duchess, the duke and a beautiful girl he had never seen before. Her bright blue eyes shone like the diamonds on the Duchesses necklace, and her hair was as golden as the sun. Michael bowed to the Duchess. "Good evening your highness, and may I say who is this young lady." The duchess blushed and cleared her throat. "Oh this girl? She is merely a servant. Don't pay attention" But Michael couldn't not pay attention. She was the most beautiful person he had ever seen.

Aurora felt like she could strangle her aunty. Merely a servant! The Duchess took her up to a lavish bedroom that was as big as her house! There in the room stood a man in the usual clothing as everyone else, but he had a tape measure around his neck. "Now Aurora this is the dressmaker I got to make your new wardrobe. Jacques this is my niece, Aurora Helene Juleka Belrose" The Dressmaker looked Aurora up and down, making her feel uncomfortable. "I can see what you mean when you say zat she needs a new wardrobe" He clapped his hands twice and two girls came in with tape measures also and began to measure Aurora. "Ze first dress should be ready next week" The Duchess sniffed and turned up her nose. "I guess it will do."She turned to Aurora."In the meantime you can wear one of my old dresses." The duchess pulled a big rope hanging from down the side of the bed, and in a few minutes a maid with frizzy red hair, appeared at the door. "Yes your majesty?" She said curtseying. "Go down to my room and in the wardrobe you will find 3 dresses in baby pink, baby blue and lemon yellow." The duchess ordered. The maid did as she was told and soon (after quite a few layers of underclothes) Aurora was dressed in the most beautiful gown she had ever seen. The silk was soft and glossy and was a light baby pink. The lace on the collar and around the cuffs of the dress was freshly cleaned and so white it almost hurt her eyes. Aurora twirled around and the skirt of her dress. The Duchess scoffed at the dress. "Its old fashioned, but it will do." She muttered to herself something Aurora couldn't understand. Suddenly there was a screech, and the Duchess turned around and smiled to see small brown creature, its fur was all fluffy, and it crawled on its feet which looked alot like human hands. Its fur was decorated with bows, and wore bracelets on its "wrists." The Duchess looked absolutely delighted, where as her husband, who had just walked in, looked annoyed. The Duchess bent down to scoop up the fuzzy brown creature, and pressed a kiss on its forehead. "Tallulah my little monkey! Did you miss your mummy?" She cooed. Aurora was surprised. She had never seen the Duchess smile, or laugh! And she had never EVER seen such a weird looking creature. She stood with her mouth agape, staring at the thing. The Duchess turned her head to look at Aurora, the "the creature" on her hip like a small child. "What, haven't you ever seen a monkey before?" Aurora shook her head in disbelief. Where was this creature form? After the Duchess had reunited with her "monkey", The Duke pulled the big rope that signalled the servants, and a few minutes later a whole troupe of men, in funny wigs and breeches, came with containers filled with powders, and rouge and all sorts of makeup Aurora had never seen before. They sat her down, and began waving powder all over her face with weird brushes, and painting her lips with red rouge. They put a huge wig on her head, and decorated it with bows, and pearls and feathers, and dusted it with powder. The men moved away, and in the mirror stood someone Aurora didn't even know. Her Strawberry blonde hair had been replaced with white hair, towering two feet above her head. Her already pale complexion had been made even paler, so pale it was white. Her pink lips were now a deep, deep red. Aurora stared at herself in the mirror. She didn't like what she saw. She had been turned into her Aunty. The Duchess came into the closet where Aurora was looking at herself. "Stand up straight! Stop slouching!" She barked. Aurora turned around and glared at her. "Do you think it's easy to stand up straight with hair as big as Notre Dame?" She shouted. The Duchess glared back, and lifted her chin. "You will learn to treat me with respect! Now you will have to sleep with that on your head all night. And to make sure that it doesn't get messy, you will have to sleep with a block of wood, not a pillow!" Aurora wished she had kept her mouth shut. This was going to be a long night.

Michael searched everywhere, but couldn't find her. He asked the head of staff if there were any new servants, but he was informed there were none. Heartbroken, Michael went back to his duties.
