Chapter One: The "Normal" Life of One Ashley "Silver" Ally
"Trust me on this."
Ashley's life had been normal once upon a time ago.
She supposed now, in today's day and age, that her life was normal to her. But to those outside her lovely family of four - not including the animals - that her life wouldn't be what the average Joe considered "normal".
Having always felt like the odd one out in her family, Ashley wasn't one to tempt fate when she processed through school. School in the small country of New Zealand, wasn't hard for the girl at first. The only subject she completely flunked at was English. She was average in everything else other than reading.
And when the girl's quiet nature broke away as she grew more confident in the strange world that surrounded hundreds of fellow students, that's when her nice, quiet, happy life all came falling down. After all, children can be more malicious than adults at times.
The only treasure of escape that Ashley had was the beloved snow white 11.2hh welsh pony that was named Mouse. The daredevil, mischievous mare was cause for plenty of Ashley's injuries over the fiveish years the dark brown haired girl had her. Countless falls, two concussions, and a fractured wrist (And Ashley was sure that something else had happened to her head, but she was unsure of what it could've been).
But all of that didn't stop Ashley from adoring the small pony. Especially when Mouse dumped her into freezing cold winter beach water that one(or three) time.
At the ripe old age of 12, Ashley had to farwell the darling mare, and after almost a year of searching, she and her parents found a pony just as talented as Mouse, but taller for the young girl to ride. The 14.2hh dark bay pony was called... wait for it.... Chicken.
Feel free to laugh, folks.
Ashley may have had no human friends, but she had Chicken, and that was all she needed - that, and books.
At age 14, going on 15, Ashley discovered the wonderous world of Wattpad, and she started creating curious tales of her not-very-well-developed characters. Cringe worthy mentions of 'Music's Guardian' and 'Daughter of a Cybertronian'. Then came along her 'Wrenches and Hammers' book, and book series following soon after the completion of it.
Then, the most wondrous thing happened. Ashley, going under the username of 'Silver-Ashley', discovered someone who shared the same passion as her, and also wanted to get to know her. This wonderous person was a stranger from behind the screen calling themself, 'Drag0nRider201'.
Of course, like any "normal" teenager, Ashley was curious, yet cautious of this person at first. Her mother and father had taught her better than to just trust someone on a whim. But she had quickly found herself warming up to the person who just happened to be fangirling all over her works, and Ashley quickly found herself fangirling over 'Drag0nRider201's works back.
Honestly? At the time, Ashley was embarrassed that someone who was as talented as 'Drag0nRider201' even enjoyed her horribly basic stories. Like, seriously, how did 'Drag0nRider201' have that much brilliant talent and "look up" to her of all people?
A spark of a beautiful friendship blossomed between them after a mere few weeks of conversing back and forth. And let's just say that Ashley may have rubbed off a bit on 'Drag0nRider201'.
They created a fanfiction together surrounding the wonderful world of Dragons and Vikings, the How to Train Your Dragon universe. Then they may have left it alone for a long, long time. They each created a Tales of Arcadia book, Ashley's one was called 'Stars' and 'Drag0nRider201's one was dubbed 'Dogears'. And then they ended up creating a book surrounding the Rise of the Guardian's universe, 'In Which They Rise'. They both relished in the heartbreak and torment they caused each other.
And now? They're writing this book you're reading right now.
But of course, just because they're writing this book, doesn't mean that nothing happened before this book. Which is what this tale is going to be all about.
Unlucky you guys.
Anyway, looking back upon the year 2019, summer break for 'Drag0nRider201' and winter holidays for Ashley, it was a big surprise that they hadn't died many times over by then, with all the technology use they had done. And even for Ashley, considering who her true father was.
"Ashley!" the girl who had been called jerked awake from her pleasant sleep, her eyes squinting in the sudden light that filled her room, "You're going to be late," her mother warned her, leaving the girl once more.
Ashley wondered what her Mom was talking about, until she looked upon her suitcase, "Shit! Shit, shit, shit, shitty, shits, shit!" she could hear her father laughing from the lounge as she raced around her tiny bedroom(she wasn't even able to "race" around it. She could literally just go in a straight time, four steps until she reached the wall from her bed).
Chucking on a jersey and grabbing her pair of chucks that she'd gotten for her birthday, she sped out into the kitchen with her suitcase in tow.
The dark, three am night sky welcomed her when she entered the kitchen. The wide windows showing the street that they lived on.
Her mother had gone back to bed, joined by the kelpie-cross puppy, and Ashley hurriedly grabs some breakfast - a single piece of toast that had honey on it - and puts her shoes on.
"Ready, dad!" Ashley yells to the man in the lounge who groans as he gets up from playing his PS4 game.
"Alright," her father says, grabbing his keys and his phone, almost forgetting his travel cup full of tea until Ashley puts it in his hands, "Thanks, kiddo."
"Let's go," Ashley insists, grabbing her suitcase again and taking it out to the car which her father unlocked and she put the heavy thing in the boot of the car.
Her father starts the car up as she hops into the passenger's seat, "Ready? Said your farewells?"
Ashley smiles, "All done," she shrugs, "Last night."
"Good," her father grins, "Ready, kiddo?"
"Always!"
