The lightning theif

Third person:
"What?!" Percy asks in shock and a twelve year old Ashley moves out of the shadows.

"Congratulations Jackson, it appears I have let you aid me in the greatest theft of all time: the theft of Zeus's lightning bolt."

"But I didn't steal anything!" A frown had now found itself onto the newfound son of Poseidon.

"Neither did I Jackson. You're just lucky I don't take lightly to false accusations against me. I shall aid you on your quest to return the bolt. We shall need to consult the Oracle before we head off."

And so the two falsely accused demigods traveled up to the attic. Ashley's face was stoic, as per usual, but she felt nervous. To be falsely accused of such a crime by such a powerful god... that stuff doesn't just disappear off your track record. If she truly had stolen the bolt, this would be a different conversation entirely. A completely different reaction.

"Hello anyone up here?" Percy Jackson's voice seemed to echo through the dusty attic files with ancient artifacts.

"I guess not. Can we go now? This place smells like ...death." Ashley starts when a skeleton hand grabs her arm causing her to pause. Ah. That explains the smell. The body shifts from underneath the piles of stuff and sits up to reveal a dead girl with glassy white eyes and a floral dress.

"I am the Oracle of Delphi, speaker of the prophecies of Phoebus Apollo, slayer of the mighty python. Approach and face your destiny." Percy slowly inches forwards, perplexed at how the ex assassin has remained so calm while literally holding hands with a zombie. Oh wait, her grandfather's the god of the dead, duh, Percy thought to himself.

"You shall go west and face the god that has turned, you shall find what was stolen and see it safely returned..."

"Oh, that's not so bad," Ashley mumbled to herself.

"You shall be betrayed by one who calls you friend..."

"Wait what?" Percy asks as he and Ashley make eye contact.

"And you shall fail to save what matters most in the end." And with that, she fell back over, evidently as dead as she was when the two sixth graders had arrived.

"We need a distraction!" Annabeth whisper yells and Ashley sighs as she glances at her sword.

"On it." The shadow of the statue the preteen was hiding behind seemed to darken and swallow her whole as she teleports to the center of the clearing, her eyes now closed. "Hey Medusa, are you dumb or just ugly? I mean honestly... you could just use mist to hind your snakes instead of that godsawful scarf." Medusa let out a shriek followed by a shlock and a thump as her head fell to the floor , landing on Ashley's foot, much to her dismay.

"It's just a photo Annabeth, what's the harm?" Annabeth mocks and Percy scoffs.

"Forget it, you're impossible."

"You're insufferable."

"You two argue like a married couple. Now someone, please , get this head that could possibly petrify me off of my foot."

Ashley set down a card as she glanced up at the Italian boy in front of her. For a ten year old, he sure was good at this game.

"Hey Neeks, do ya know what the date is?" There was something...something important she had to do. Why couldn't she remember? It had something to do with something stolen and stopping a war...but that's crazy. Ashley glanced at the beer before deciding she should stop drinking.

"Umm May 1st, 1939." Ashley's dilated pupils instantly got smaller, if only for a moment.

"Ohhh was that a Captain America reference? Hahaha. You're a funny kid."

"Who's Captain America? I don't think I have his figurine." Ashley sighs as she picks up her things.

"You know what, I should probably find my friends. Something about this Casino...it's not right." And with that, the brunette left to find her friends, leaving behind a confused Italian kid behind.

"So let me get this straight, we're going to fight Ares, the god of war, and you, the child of Athena, the goddess of wisdom and battle strategy, are ok with this?" Ashley asks in confusion.

"I mean, if we don't stop him, a war between the gods will start and that will probably wipe out the population, so I guess?"

"Good enough for me I guess."

Ashley sighed as she looked over the beautiful grounds of the camp that had been a home to her for the past year. She wasn't dirty...she wasn't hungry...it all felt wrong. You shall be betrayed by one that calls you friend. That line could have applied to Ares, except not once did he claim to be their friend. So who was it?

"Well, are you coming?" Ashley's eyes trained on Luke and she smiled. A trip in the woods, what harm could it do? She was an ex assassin after all.

"Sure." She followed the older boy, pushing the nagging feeling telling her to impale Luke with her sword on the spot.

"So do you miss it?" Luke asked, his blue eyes trained on the twelve year old.

"The quest? Yes. Being falsely accused? The dirt caking my body and always being in danger? Not so much." Ashley spoke as Luke handed her a coke. Luke gave her a look and she glanced down. "Yeah. I miss it. I miss the adrenaline."

"Yeah, I get it. When you get the quest, it's supposed to be the biggest thing in your short life. When it's over, it's like 'Okay, ride's over, have a nice life!" Luke's bitter tone did not go missed by the ex assassin. He was almost always bitter when he spoke of his dad and his quest. But who can blame him? If her dad had said 'oh, Hercules did this, so you can too', she would've killed him then and there.

But Ashley hadn't expected him to throw his empty coke can to the ground. That was practically suicide...it pissed off the nymphs, everybody knows that. Why would he do that? Unless...

"You're the lightning thief." Ashley's eyes glanced at the ground and she shoved her hands in her pockets, her fingers grasping for her sword. Her words were hollow as the truth settled in. She had suspected he was lying for quite some time, but she did what she did best: she ignored it. Ashley was curious about how it would play out.

"How long have you known, Ghost Queen?" Luke chuckled slightly as he turns to face her head on.

"I think I've known for a while, but I didn't want to admit it. But you have to tell me...was it easy?" Biding her time. This was something Ashley Al'Ghul could do for centuries.

"Yeah, you would not believe how crappy their security is."

"Good to know."

"You could join me. Together we could give the gods a run for their money." Ashley sighs and runs a hand through her auburn hair.

"I would love to , but I have to pass. Yes, the gods deserve a lesson. But our friends? I don't want to fight them."

"I was afraid you were going to say that." A black jumping scorpion crawled out of the bushes and Ashley drew her sword.

"Ah ah, none of that. Scorpions can jump up to 15 feet. You said so yourself."

Ashley couldn't bite back a chuckle that escaped her throat." You're going to kill me...with a scorpion? Using my own murder advice against me. As much as I hate your guts right now...that is smart."

"Sorry, but I can't have you foiling Kronos' plans. And you being a pawn of the gods...it's not good for business."

Ashley started to laugh again. "You preach of freedom, yet all your doing is putting a bigger tyrant in charge."

"Good!" Luke wasn't joking anymore. "I've been here since I was a kid. I did everything they ever asked, yeah I did. And for what? As long as our parents rule over the stars, this world will never belong to the demigods. The gods sent us to die. When I'm done, they won't be able to do that anymore."
