Chapter Three
"Did the queen really just bow before our little sister?" Ash said to Ken. "She's not anything more special than the combat dress she wears." The outfit that Gloss had on was actually said to be sewn by her mother. Kenya and Ashtrin thought it was overthinking since they're mother never had much history with being a seamstress. Like Gloss, her mother was more of a warrior. It was told that she could do anything, from guard duties to household chores. Ash thought that their mom was such an amazing person and wondered why Gloss turned out to be "Whatever she is."
Aside from all that, the dress had special magic on it. Whatever environment it was, it changed color to match the scenery. It worked the best in battles and being a spy, but Gloss had to hide her wings-which was difficult. They gave off this slight glare, and they were really only useful for scouting the area above ground. She sometimes wish that she could make her wings vanish and then they'd come back at her will.
"Ash," Kenya replied. "You do understand that her dress isn't a normal one."
"So technically it's a compliment," Gloss added. Ash just rolled her eyes and caught up to Zelda. Kenya decided to talk to Link about something, so that left Gloss to listen to the scenery. The chirping of crickets and birds gave a sort of voice to them. The rustling leafs reminded her of dances at the Kingdom, and the wind made her hair fly behind her.
"I still don't understand that human," A voice said. Gloss opened her eyes and looked around. No one else was there but her sisters, Link, and Zelda. She stopped in her tracks and took out her dagger. If there was someone there, then they wouldn't get away. "Oh no!" The voice said again. "This one had a weapon!"
"What in the Ether is that?" Gloss whispered to herself.
"Wait," Another, higher-pitched voice said. "Can she understand us?" Gloss followed where the voice were coming from, but the more she moved around the farther the sound seemed. She closed her eyes and took a deep breath.
"I won't hurt you," she said. "Who are you?"
"You expect us to believe you with that dagger in your hand?" the lower voice said.
"Will you at least tell me what you are?"
"Why? So you can hunt us down?"
"Non-sense. I might be a fighter, but that doesn't mean I hunt."
"Prove it," The high voice said. "Put that dagger on the ground to your left." Gloss dropped her weapon down and took two steps back from it. After a moment of whispers, the high-pitched voice spoke up. "You can open your eyes, strange human."
Gloss did as she was told, and she was greeted to a deer and a raven. She tilted her head, confused.
"Do you need proof that we speak?" the deer said. Gloss blinked. How was it possible that she was able to understand animals? This had never happened to her before.
"How am I able to speak to you?" she asked.
"I'm just as confused as you are," the bird chirped. "I suppose it could also explain your gold wings." Gloss looked behind her, and her wings flapped. She smiled and looked back towards them.
"I'm not an angel," she answered. "I am just a human with wings."
"Oh no," the deer replied. "I can feel your aura. It's very strong for you just being a human. Not even that sorceress has as strong of a power as you do."
"Oh?" Gloss was actually wondering about this. She was told many times, by Zelda, that her aura took up too much space, but she just thought she said that so she could have some privacy. "Well, I never thought of myself as anything very special. I'm just a warrior from the Kingdom of Arendelle."
"Arendelle?" the bird said. "Oh, you're from the animal friendly area."
"Animal friendly?"
"They don't hunt normal creatures like us," The deer simplified. "It was something about an old treaty that was signed by the, at the time, king. He knew how to commune with us, and he promised our kind to not hunt us. If this treaty were to ever be broken, then all hunters in that area would be prisoners to us."
"What do you mean prisoners to you?" Gloss asked confused now.
"The king had a magic seal on the agreement, so the people that hunted down animals of this forest are controlled to come to us and be, literally, our prisoners. We've gotten a couple in our forest that almost killed animals, and they were only suppose to work with us for a few months."
"So if someone almost but doesn't kill an animal from here, they only have to work alongside you?"
"Yes, but the work is quite difficult." Gloss was quite fascinated by this. "Oh, I almost forgot. My name is Hazlitt, and this is Brenner."
"Gloss," Gloss replied. "Gloss Tzofi."
"Light Protector?" Brenner said. "You look like a guard, and I suppose your wings could give off a signal that you are a part of some sort of light."
"I never really thought of my name for meaning much."
"Oh, but it is such a beautiful name," Hazlitt replied. Gloss then heard rustling of leaves. She turned her head to the sound and saw the leaves of a bush moving. She slowly walked towards them and moved the green, paper-like objects out of the way. Something popped out and pinned Gloss to the ground. When she wasn't trying to escape free, the figure spoke.
"Gloss!?" It was Dalton, and he was in his armor. "I-I-i.... What are you doing here?"
"Get off of me, and I'll tell you!" she answered. Dalton did and helped her up. Dusting herself off, she looked to the intern. "I was ordered by the queen to come through this area. What are you doing here? Trying to make trouble?"
"W-what? No! I was just trying to scout the area for any dragon scale dust," he replied. "It's something we have to do for guard training. I thought you were some strange creature. Sorry about that."
"You are forgiven, for now. So I suppose the queen has also told you about what has happened?"
"News gets around very quickly in the castle."
"Hmm... well, it was nice seeing you here. Now if you don't mind, I need to get back. The others might be wondering where I am by now." As soon as Gloss said that, shouts from Ashtrin and Kenya rang through the forest. Gloss looked to where Brenner and Hazlitt could be, but they vanished.
"Gloss!" Her sisters yelled.
"Hold on!" Gloss yelled back. "I just needed to see something."
"Dear Heavens, Gloss!" Zelda said. "I thought the forest swallowed you into some odd trance." Gloss shook her head and looked to Dalton.
"Well, see you after a while," she said. She took her dagger from the ground, and walked off. She looked behind her, and Dalton was waving. She waved back and headed off to the group.
