Chapter Sixteen

"You want me to what?" Gloss asked astonished.

"I know it's a lot to ask-" Aldis began.

"No! I am the final round these interns must go through in order to become a part of the Royal Court! If I just go easy on him, not only will the audience be suspicious, but he could be expelled for cheating!"

"Please. Can't you give him an easy start in the first ten seconds?"

Gloss sighed and looked at her choices. If she did let Dalton get away with her being an easy fight, not only would she be considered suspicious, but he could also have a chance for being rated as a lowly guard if he gets caught. She couldn't risk it.

"I'm sorry, Aldis, but it's like the Wizardry test. If you're caught cheating, then there are some enormous consequences. Please understand that it's not that I hate you two, no matter how much you provoke me. It's the fact that I'm helping you by saying this: I'm not doing it."

Aldis' face turned frustrated, but he sighed and poofed away. Gloss rolled her eyes and watched as the obstacle course was getting ready. She looked around and noticed Zelda had gone down to the fields. Gloss smiled and lay her head on the fence of the balcony.

"Interns!" The queen yelled as the course was ready. "Get to the starting line! The obstacle course is about to begin!"

All of the interns then got in a straight line across the wast starting line. The wizards, preparing their wands and potions, were standing at the sidelines. Zelda's fists were white as Gloss saw. Although Gloss thought the actual test was more important, Zelda liked to take this obstacle course seriously.

However, something seemed off to Gloss. Where was Aldis? Looking around, she caught him holding a glass of white wine in his hand. It was odd seeing how it was a bit of a different shade. It was possibly from Corinth or Loyla, Gloss thought. He then set it on the tray next to him and poofed to where his fellow wizards and witches were.

"On your marks-" They all got into running positions. "Get set-" Gloss notice them all tense up. "GO!"

The interns were off and running faster than the group had ever seen. The wizards had to act fast this time around. Zelda signaled her apprentices to fire at will, and each one of them had a different attack. Some shot wind storms, others fire, a few bolted strong water streams, and a couple even turned the ground into ice.

The wizards' and witches' powers were heavily based on the four major elements: fire, water, earth, and wind. Neither was stronger than the other, but they were all abused around the world. There were very few wizards, Zelda as an example, that could use all four elements at once. Gloss thought that having her for the testing was an overkill, but Her Highness wanted to see the best out of her future guards.

Besides that, the interns were having the biggest troubles of their life. Zelda's apprentices were better than the last year batch, or the year before that. It was quite shocking for how powerful each group was than the last.

"Young Angel," An old servant spoke sweetly while giving a glass of apple cider to Gloss. "A special drink for the occasion?"

"Thank you," she replied while taking the drink. "Here."

She handed the gray-haired waitress ten gold coins, and her eyes widened.

"Oh my, I cannot take this money," she stuttered.

"Please," Gloss insisted while cupping the elder's hand over the money. "I'm sure that you need it much more than I. Besides, your kindness to the castle is much appreciated, Mary."

"By the Ethereal Angels, I didn't realize you even knew my name!"

"The Queen talks fondly about your good doings for everyone." She touched Mary's shoulder. "Again, thank you."

"May the Angels bless you, my child."

Mary went off then, all happy and giddy as she showed a young servant- her granddaughter- her promotion. She cupped her mouth and hugged Mary. They both laughed with joy and went off into the castle. Although she didn't have to do so, Gloss still wanted to pay the servants. She knew they had a life of their own that they are breaking their backs for, and she wanted give them a little help.

She then took a sip from the cider, and it tasted a bit stronger than usual. Were the apples not ripe this season, or was she just being a little too sensitive after her wings burned? Whatever it was, Gloss drank every last drop of the sweet drink.

Her vision then began to get a bit wobbly, and her head began to pound. What is going on, she thought, am I getting sick? No, I should be immune to disease with my immortality. Kenya noticed Gloss losing her balance.

"Are you alright, Gloss?" she asked while stabilizing her. "You don't seem too well."

"I-I-I don't know," she replied. "Maybe I'm getting a bit light-headed."

"You should sit down then. If you feel any better, then we can go on to the testing. For now-" She looked at the field and snickered. "Oh my lord, I feel really bad for Dalton. He keeps on getting bothered by Aldis. Those two."

Kenya then joined Ash and Link at the balcony's edge while Gloss watched on her little chair. Whatever was in that drink, it sure wasn't good; the testing was up soon after all.

Coora's been tired this entire day so I decided to do the rest of the editing by myself. It was good but I don't know if it was exactly as amazing as hers. Anyways be prepared for the next chapter! Cheers~
