Chapter Seven

"You did what?!" Ashtrin yelled. "You held a knife to Link's neck for some teasing?"

"Oh, now that sound familiar doesn't it?" Gloss responded turning to her sister.

"It's a normal thing to like someone, Gloss!"

"And it's a normal thing for siblings to tease each other about their emotions, Ash!" Ash's green eyes were glaring into Gloss', but she wouldn't shatter. Finally, Ashtrin decided to keep on walking. Kenya walked up to her and left Gloss to roam once more. She then felt a spark of something on her cheek. Looking, she saw Zelda practicing this new spell. The sparks were pink, and whatever color the sparks were showed what mood she was in.

"You thinking of someone or does the pink represent something else?" Gloss asked. Zelda's head sprang up, and her face burned a brand.

"W-w-what?" she stuttered. "Oh. It's nothing, Gloss."

"You sure? Your face is awfully red. Are you sick with a fever?"

"No. It's not that."

"Is it the heat?"

"I'm fine, Gloss."

"It's Link, isn't it." Zelda's face just became more and more red by the second. Gloss always had a feeling that she would have feelings for Link. They have been friends since childhood, they're always seeing each other during their jobs, and they are practically linked to have the same thoughts! "You can tell me. It's not like I'm gonna tell anyone anything."

Gloss looked at the forest floor as Zelda looked to her angelic friend. Sighing, she leaned towards Gloss' ear. "Okay, I admit it. But.... he's just.... I'm just scared that he won't think the same way for me."

"Oh you should've heard him when he was talking to the townsfolk!"

"What did he say?"

"He told about the time he saved you. He gave some amazing details on you."

"...I never knew that-" Right as she was going to speak, Link came between the two. He wrapped an arm around Zelda, so that left Gloss to being by herself once again. When Gloss knew they were coming towards where the caves were, this sound of sudden whistling came through the air. Before she could react to the sound, a knife flew just past her face.

Cutting through her bangs, the iron weapon hit a tree in the center. Gloss camouflaged herself and looked around for the culprit. Her steps were soundless, and she then saw a shine of armor. Was it armor? It seemed like something else.

"I see," Gloss whispered to herself and getting her blade out. "A bit of my tactic, huh? Probably shining some sort of jewel or glass." She took one step forward, and a twig snapped. She inhaled a sharp and quick breath and swiftly looked up as a sword clashed with hers. She noticed the person was a knight, but she couldn't tell which kingdom in the dark.

As they were standing off, Gloss noticed that it now started to get dark. She looked behind her and saw her wings weren't there. She then looked at her hands. They were.... different. They weren't her small, fighter-like hands. Instead, they turned iron-like and thin. Her movements were more quick and she felt her wings shrink into her back. Gloss shouted as it filled her with pain, and she slowly saw her vision fade into white.

*****************************************************************

When she woke up, it was nighttime and was on the ground. Flames crackled, and as she got up, the knight was the only person there.

"Gloss!" he said. "What was that back there? You okay?"

"Ugh," she said holding her head. "Who are you?"

"Hmm? Ah, guess my helm makes it so I changed completely, eh?" The fire reflected off the shiny armor the guard had. Gloss rubbed her eyes and the figure began to take off his helmet. Once he did so, blonde hair in a low ponytail made her realize who it was.

"Dalton?" she replied.

"Heh," he said rubbing his neck. "What? Do you only see me as the trouble maker from town?"

"I've never seen you much, other than those times." Gloss then realized that she wasn't with the group. "Where are the others?"

"You turned into.... something, and you just started attacking them. They didn't know it was you, but once they fled, then you started turning back into yourself. I decided to wait until you woke up." Gloss looked back, and she let out a relieved sigh once she saw her golden wings. She touched the feather tips, and it tickled her fingers as they lit up. The soft feel reminded her of being on a cloud.

"What's with those wings anyways?" Dalton asked. "I mean, if you don't mind talking about it."

"I honestly don't understand why I have these wings," She replied without hesitation. "All I remember is the Queen of Themos telling me I was born with them, but that's it."

"T-t-the Queen of Themos? Was she your mother?"

"No. She just raised us."

"Didn't you have a mom?"

"My mom....." Gloss just sighed through her teeth. "I guess you can say that Ash likes to blame me for my crimes of what I did as a newborn." Dalton was just confused. His eyes then widened as he understood what happened.

"Ashtrin really hates you that much?" he asked. "She is your sister."

"I guess it's just that we aren't as close as you'd think. She.... I don't know. I'm not good with talking about these situations."

"Never spoke about them before?" he wondered while sitting next to her.

"I.... sure Link and Zelda were there, but they're too busy."

"What about Kenya?" Gloss looked to Dalton, but quickly looked to the dirt. She never really understood why Kenya always tried to comfort Ash instead of her. What are you thinking Gloss, she thought. She knew she was just thinking selfishly, but... she really didn't have anyone to talk to through her harsh times. It was probably the reason why she was kinda harsh on Aldis and Dalton. She didn't know how to get rid of her stress.

"Kenya was busy helping the others," she half lied. "I never forced her to help."

"I guess that would explain why you take your anger out on others," he replied as if reading her mind. Gloss looked to him, creeped out by how he knew what she was thinking. He gave her a smirk. "Guess I knew what you were thinking. I am kinda of the guy that knows what a girl thinks."

"Oh," Gloss said sarcastically. "I'm guessing you just made that up on the spot to reward yourself?"

"What?" he said jokingly. "No. I really do know what girls are thinking."

"Oh yeah. Then what am I thinking of right now?"

"About my good looks?"

"Dream on!" The two began laughing. Gloss didn't remember the last time she truly enjoyed laughing with someone. She never expected the intern- whom she practically scolds everyday- would make her laugh like that.

"You have a nice smile," he said abruptly. "Anyone ever tell you that?"

"Is that one of your other traits?" She asked. "To tell a girl about her smile?"

"Don't like one sweet moment?"

"Bittersweet is what I'm used to."

"Don't like change in your life?"

"Guessed again."

"Ha! See? I told you I was good at reading girls' minds." She shoved Dalton to the side, and they laughed again through the night. "I never actually, but how long have you been in Arendelle for?"

"Only two years. One year of interning, then I'm a part of the Royal Council."

"Wait. You only had one year of interning?!"

"...Yes?"

"I've been an apprentice for three years now, and I started when I was fourteen."

"I started at the age of thirteen. I guess my skills are better than yours."

"Wait. You're fifteen?!"

"Yes."

"I'm being bossed around by a guard that is younger than me! How is that the least bit fair?"

Gloss just shrugged as Dalton then started snickering.

"I never thought that I would be talking to a Royal Guard and enjoying it. After all, you yell at me and Aldis all the time. I still can't believe you are.... two years younger than me."

"Speaking of whom, where is Aldis anyways?"

"He had to travel to Loyla. The priest asked if he could get something for him."

"Did he mention what it was?"

"No. Then again, that old man is strange as it is."

"Dalton!"

"Here we go to the scolding again."

"He's a priest!"

"So?"

"You should respect him no matter what."

"You're starting to sound like Ash."

"Oh Ether." Gloss put her hand to her forehead. Out of anyone, she's being compared to Ashtrin. The sister that looks, and acts like, nothing compared to her.

"It's getting late," Dalton said. "We should get some shut eye. I'll take the first watch."

"Alright," Gloss replied. "Hey, Dalton?"

"Hmm?"

"Thanks. For... I guess helping." Dalton's face had a red tint run across his face. A small smile pulled at his mouth as he nodded. For once, Gloss actually felt like she had somewhere to go to in her times of need. Even if it did mean it having to be Dalton.

A/N: OMG! Coora literally stayed up until 10 or 11 (In her time) to help me with this. That is some determination right there. I even told her she could go to bed but she still kept on editing. I'm pretty sure she's gonna be tired going back home. She told me she's in a different city visiting relatives so she's gonna be tired on her roadtrip. She's probably home by now so yeah. Anyways I hope you guys enjoyed this chapter. I swear I think that Coora is just crazy with the things she does. Cheers~
