Chapter Fifteen
"What?" Zelda gasped as Gloss told her what happened last night.
"I'm still confused on what they were speaking of!" she replied. "They said things like 'She doesn't remember', and they seemed really upset about what happened to my wings. It's almost like... I don't even know."
"By the way, how are you holding up?"
"I'm decent."
"Hmm. Oh! We must get to the castle fields!"
"Why's that?"
"Today's the-"
Suddenly, the trumpet for the intern guards howled within the air.
"Quick!" Zelda said. "We must get to the balcony before the Queen speaks!"
Gloss and Zelda ran as fast as they could. Each year, the fourth years have this tournament before getting their titles as guards. They would compete in this series of sword fights and obstacle courses. The sword fights were the test while the obstacle course was just for fun.
The obstacle courses were simple. You just had to get through the spells and traps the wizard apprentices and other guards put out on this field. The person who could get through all of them first won. Easy.
However, for the test, the guards had to fight their teacher- Link-, Kenya, Ashtrin, and Zelda. If they had it easy with those four, then they had to fight Gloss. Barely anyone ever did make it to her level, and no one ever passed her. They had to go onto their balcony to show the people of their loyalty.
When Zelda and Gloss came to their balcony, they stood in the shadows, and Gloss noticed everyone's weapons and armor. Each person had a different skill, and all of their weapons were fake. This way, no one got hurt during their exam.
Link was to fight with only a basic sword, simple armor, and a shield. He was suppose to show a guard that just came out of apprenticeship or a lower rated one. It still confused Gloss as to why he was suppose to be a simple guard, but he signed up for it.
Kenya was suppose to be using spy techniques, due to her high agility, so she had daggers and vanishing potions. Her outfit was also camouflaged to the scenery, and it was difficult to spot her in the wild.
Ashtrin was one of the strongest knights, and she used her blade with two claws that came out of her gloves. Being a royal guard, you never know what weapons one might hold, so Ash was chosen to be one of those unique killers. The variety has become vast, and it was necessary for the interns to be exposed to her special moves.
Zelda was suppose to represent a magic wielder attacking. Her attacks based on using her wand, throwing potions, and casting spells. She was allowed to freeze, burn, and even shock the interns, and there were many that she did that to. No mercy.
Finally, Gloss' weapons consisted of her sword, powders that she made in her workroom, and she could use her bow when flying. Of course, she wasn't able to fly now, but that wouldn't stop her. Her attacks were symbolizing some sort of Godly creature trying to destroy you. Since it always took place outside, she was like a fox stalking its prey. However, some people in the audience still managed to find her because of her wings giving away her spot.
"Ladies and Gentlemen!" The Queen exclaimed on her balcony. "Today is the special day to see how far our knights have come. They have gone through many hardships in their four years and have even been on their first quest just recently. These brave interns, male and female, will be going through two tests today.
"For their first part, it is to merely see how far they are in their training. Most guards must complete this test until they can no longer improve. We only do this test so our guards are on their top shape, and we know that they are able to withstand simple traps. The second part is to see which title they get. As some of you may know, the interns must get through the five levels of fighters: Basic guard, Spy, Royal guard, wizard and witch, and- if they get far enough- Godly warriors."
One by one, they each got themselves introduced.
"Link will be representing a lower class guard." Link came out of the shadows and into the light with everyone else following as their names were called out. "Kenya will be representing a spy, Ashtrin will be representing a loyal Royal Guard, Zelda a wizard or witch, and Gloss will be their final opponent: Godly warrior."
When Gloss finally came from my place, most of the audience was shocked to see her. She knew why as well. Her wings didn't shine in the sunlight as they usually did. They burned to nothing before her eyes.
"For now, let us see how far the interns can get in their obstacle course," Her Highness shouted.
Claps and cheers went through the crowd as the apprentices came from the castle stables. Gloss saw everyone's faces, and they looked anxious. Before she could speak to anyone in her group, she felt a tap on her shoulder.
"Gloss." It was Aldis. "May I speak to you for a moment? It's... urgent."

A/N: Cliffhangers again? Yeah. Don't judge. Coora does this to me all the time. Anyways I accidentally uploaded this chapter early and I'm afraid that some of you guys read my notes I put for what the book is about since I lost my drafts. If you did see anything spoiling the ending then I'm really sorry. Everything has just been insane here. Cheers~
