chapter 18

3rd person pov

The moment Maleficent's voice echoed through the cathedral, a tense silence fell over the crowd. Sabrina and Mal both froze, eyes wide as they turned to face the source of the voice. Maleficent emerged from the shadows, her presence commanding and terrifying. The Mistress of Evil had returned, and she was more powerful than ever.

"My, my," Maleficent sneered, her gaze locking onto Mal. "I leave you for a short while, and you’ve already forgotten who you are."

Mal clenched the wand tighter, feeling the weight of her mother’s expectations crushing down on her. "Mother, stop. This isn't what I want."

"You don't know what you want, child. You're confused," Maleficent said, her tone dripping with venom. "But don’t worry. I’m here to remind you."

Sabrina stepped forward, placing herself between Mal and Maleficent. "She doesn’t need reminding, Maleficent. Mal knows exactly who she is. She’s chosen her own path."

Maleficent's eyes narrowed, her lip curling in disdain. "And who are you to interfere in matters beyond your understanding? You are nothing more than a child playing queen."

"She’s not alone," Evie said, stepping beside Sabrina, followed by Jay and Carlos. "None of us are."

Maleficent laughed, a cold, chilling sound that echoed off the cathedral walls. "Adorable. But you are all out of your depth. Mal, give me the wand. Let’s remind these fools what true power looks like."

Mal's heart pounded in her chest. The wand thrummed in her hand, filled with untapped energy. But as she looked around, she saw the faces of her friends, of Sabrina, and of everyone in Auradon who believed in her. This wasn’t about power. It was about choice—*her* choice.

"No," Mal said, her voice steady despite the fear gnawing at her insides. "I'm done being your puppet. I choose my own destiny."

Maleficent's eyes blazed with fury, and she raised her staff, magic crackling at the tip. "You foolish girl! You would throw away everything for these pathetic children?"

"They’re my friends," Mal said, taking a step back as she raised the wand. "And I’d rather be good and weak than evil and alone."

Before Maleficent could unleash her wrath, Sabrina placed a hand on Mal’s arm. "We can do this together," she whispered. "We can end this."

Mal nodded, and with a deep breath, she and Sabrina pointed the wand at Maleficent. Together, they channeled their combined strength, focusing on the one thing that could defeat the Mistress of Evil—*love*.

A brilliant light erupted from the wand, engulfing Maleficent in its glow. She screamed, a piercing wail of fury and anguish, as the light overwhelmed her. The darkness that had once been her power began to dissipate, unraveling in the face of pure, unadulterated love.

"NO!" Maleficent shrieked, but it was too late. The light intensified, and with one final burst, Maleficent was gone, reduced to nothing but a faint shadow on the floor.

The cathedral was silent. Slowly, the light faded, and Mal looked down at the wand in her hand, feeling its weight lift as the last remnants of Maleficent’s power disappeared.

"She’s gone," Sabrina whispered, her voice filled with awe.

Mal nodded, her heart still racing. "We did it."

Evie, Jay, and Carlos rushed forward, enveloping Mal and Sabrina in a tight hug. The relief was palpable, the tension that had gripped them for so long finally releasing.

The Fairy Godmother stepped forward, her face softening as she looked at the group of friends. "You’ve done something remarkable today. You’ve proven that love, friendship, and choosing the right path can conquer even the darkest of evils."

Mal handed the wand back to the Fairy Godmother. "I don’t need this anymore. I know who I am."

The Fairy Godmother smiled warmly. "And who you are is someone very special, Mal. You’re a leader. A friend. And a hero."

As the ceremony resumed, Sabrina was officially crowned Queen of Auradon, with Mal and her friends standing by her side. The people of Auradon cheered, not just for their new queen, but for the group of kids who had proven that they were more than just the children of villains—they were heroes in their own right.

Later, as the celebrations continued, Mal stood with Sabrina, looking out over the kingdom. "You know," Mal said, a small smile playing on her lips, "I never thought I’d find happiness in a place like this."

Sabrina took her hand, intertwining their fingers. "Happiness isn’t about where you are, Mal. It’s about who you’re with. And I’m glad I’m with you."

Mal squeezed her hand, feeling a warmth spread through her chest. For the first time, she truly believed it. They had faced their pasts, defeated their demons, and chosen their own destinies. Together, they could face anything.

and she knew this wasn't the end of there story
