Oh, what could I have possibly been thinking? Amneris Topanga thought to herself as she wandered down a path just outside her host's house. It took all her self control to not start sparking. She had not expected to end up in the streets of Rome to visit some emperor whose name she did not bother remembering. The only good thing about the trip was that she had been to this universe only a few times before. It was enough, however, for rumours to start up around the mysterious girl who would appear and save the world before vanishing into the night. Her father, Lvaane, had not let her anywhere near this universe as a child. Something about it progressing a lot faster than it should be. She sighed. I really should start paying more attention to these meetings.

A noise in the ally she was passing by grabbed her attention. Out of habit, she reached for the dagger strapped to her thigh. It was hidden under her stola, accessible by a small slit in the fabric. Apparently, women were not supposed to carry weaponry. She could not figure out if that was because men feared they would rise up.

Her Fae eyes let her see through the darkness as her hand wrapped around the bejewelled hilt. Amneris could see nothing but a set of glowing green eyes. Slowly, she approached, only to jump back when a tabby cat pounced on her. She fell backwards, catching the cat as it attacked her with licks and nuzzling.

She could not help but laugh, trying to take the cat off her face. "Okay. Okay. That's enough now." After a few moments, the cat got off her, continuing down the path as though nothing had happened.

Amneris stood, dusting herself off as she waited for a horse and cart to pass through the road in front of her. The rider gave her a strange look, no doubt why there was a woman dressed such as she wondering the streets at night. She held gaze with the rider, allowing for her eyes to glow cyan momentarily. The man gasped, moving his horse into a trot to get away from her.

She smiled as she crossed the road, snapping her fingers as she did. Her clothing changed into something she found more comfortable - a tunic, pants, and boots - as she reached the other side. She could feel someone following her but decided to ignore it. It's probably just that boy from the house again. He seemed to have taken an interest in her. He was far from the first in the last thousand years.

Amneris stopped in her tracks, almost stumbling over her own feet. She grabbed onto a nearby wall to steady herself, her now-unbound curled hair falling over her face. A thousand years? Had it been that long already?  A thousand years since the battle which made her immortal. A thousand years since her husband was murdered by the King who she proceeded to cast out of the multiverse and into Negative Space, the nothingness between the universes. She was glad she had been able to do that, but hated the loss that had come. A thousand years. All her friends in Kemet were stardust now, all in some grave in several universes away from the one she was standing in. To the left, to be precise.

The thought was enough for her to start walking again, looking for some sort of bar on the side of the road. I really need something to drink. She was at the stage where she did not care if it was poisoned or not. Anything would be better than wondering around with those thoughts on her mind. Besides, it was not like she could die.
