Chapter Thirty-Five : Movie
Salah's POV
I tried to catch Badr's shoulder, but he pulled away from me. He unlocked the door to the apartment and turned to me, his eyes locked on the ground. "I'm going out." His voice wasn't the sweet and welcoming one it usually was. Instead, it was rough and anger pulsated from each word.
"Bu-" I thought to try and hold him back, try to talk to him, but that had been what had gotten me into this mess in the first place. I had been too pushy. I kept forcing him to do things he didn't want to. I needed to give him space. "Okay..."
"Don't wait up for me." He shoved his hands in his pockets and walked away, leaving me at the door of our apartment.
I bit my lip, holding back the tears in my eyes. "God, I'm a terrible wife." I mumbled, dropping my head as I entered the living room, closing the door behind me. I walked to the kitchen, leaving out food for Aleena and Ilma. "Gi-Girls!" My voice cracked as I called for them. "Come have dinner!"
The two came running down the hall. Ilma took her seat at the table, but Aleena stopped and looked around. "Wait... Where's Bhai?"
"He..." I swallowed and played with my fingers. "He's just getting some air. Don't worry." I gave the girl a small smile before walking back to my own room.
I sat down on the bed, covering my face with my hands as I finally let the tears spill. "Idiot!" I punched the bed, grabbing the sheets in an iron grip. "I should've stopped pushing him..."
"You were only trying to help." Aleena stood at the door. "I admit, you should've paused and listened to him, but he knows you were only trying to help."
She walked over and sat down beside me. I wiped my tears, but they kept coming anyway. "I-I was pushy and-and annoying... How will he-he forgive me?"
"He will." She smiled, hugging me. "He loves you."
"I have-have to make it up-up to him." I whispered, playing with my fingers once more.
"Start by letting go of the whole prosecuting our parents thing." She smiled, jokingly. "That'll help."
I let out a small laugh. "Yeah, okay."
"And... Maybe talk to him about what he wants."
"You're wise beyond your years, Aleena." I smiled and kissed her head.
"I'm only a couple years younger than you!" She whined.
"Three years, to be exact." I grinned.
"Salah Baji, can we watch a movie together?" Ilma stood at the door.
I laughed softly. "Sure. Ilma and I will pick out the movie while Aleena finishes eating, okay?"
"Okay!"
