Chapter Ten : Fajr

The next morning, I awoke to the sound of Badr's voice. I had fallen asleep curled up under the sheets, my phone in hand. The battery on my phone had run out, so my alarm hadn't gone off for Fajr. "Salah," Badr called out. "Salah, wake up. It's time for Fajr."

I blinked a couple times, bringing my hand up to my eyes. "Badr?" I questioned softly, instinctively fixing the hijab I had accidentally fallen asleep in.

"Yes, it's me." Came his response. I looked up, expecting to find him somewhere in my room, but he wasn't there. I caught sight of his hand on the doorframe. He was standing outside the door, just trying to wake me up. "I didn't come in if that's what you're wondering. I wasn't sure if you had your hijab on." He whispered.

"Jazakallah khair." I sat up, fixing my clothes. "I'll show you guys where the bathroom is so you can do wudu." I stood, making sure I looked presentable before walking out to the hall where Badr was.

Zakir was sitting up in the arm chair, scrolling through something on his phone. "Morning." He whispered, looking up at Badr and I.

The three girls were still asleep since they were Christians and didn't pray Fajr. "Morning." I smiled. "The bathroom is right here." I walked down a bit, pointing to a door on the right.

"Jazakallah khair." Badr thanked, slipping into the bathroom once I moved out of the way.

"Wa iyaki." I hummed the response even though he couldn't hear it. I walked back to my room and pulled three prayer mats out of my wardrobe. I brought them out to the hall and placed them on the floor, two in the front and one in the back.

Zakir finally got up from his place on the arm chair. "Can I just do wudu in the kitchen?"

"Sure." I shrugged, waiting for one of them to finish so I could do wudu, myself.

After praying, Zakir got up and laid back down on the arm chair, curling up into a ball and falling asleep. I laughed softly. "I guess he was really tired."

"He's always really tired." Badr joked. "You should see him during Ramadan. "Wallah, this kid sleeps half the day away." He laughed softly. "He also does ibadat though, so it's okay."

"Shush!" Zakir groaned from the arm chair.

I giggled softly. "Sorry!" I got up, putting the prayer mats away. I pulled out one of my copies of the Qu'ran, ready to read it for a little while.

"Uhm," Badr tapped on the doorframe lightly. "Do you have another copy of the Qu'ran? I usually read it after praying Salah..."

"Oh! Yeah, of course." I handed him the one I was holding and pulled out my other copy.

"Jazakallah khair." He began to leave. "We've really been saying that a lot." He chuckled.

"Wa iyaki." I replied. "And yeah, I guess we have." I smiled to myself, sitting down at my desk.

I read Qu'ran for another hour before starting to get ready for the day. I walked out into the hallway, finding everyone expect Badr asleep. Badr was still reading the Qu'ran, sitting up on the blanket. Though, I did notice he had headphones in. That confused me, but I didn't want to assume, so I kept my thoughts to myself and walked off to the bathroom.

After a short shower, I changed into a pair of white jeans, a white shirt, and slipped on a navy blue, knee-length cardigan. I wrapped a tan scarf around my head and found my matching pair of heels. I put on a little bit of makeup, just some mascara and lipstick, before grabbing my purse and stepping out into the hall. I grabbed my car keys, turning around to tell Badr that I would be right back.

"Where're you going?" He asked, slowly shutting the Qu'ran.

"Just grocery shopping. I'll make everyone pancakes. Don't let anyone leave before I get back, okay? I'm trusting you!" I grinned, joking around.

"I'm pretty sure they won't even wake up by the time you get back." He laughed softly.

I laughed quietly, "Okay, well, I'll be right back. Text me if you need anything."

I was in my car, on my way back from the grocery store when I got a text from Badr.

"🚨RED ALERT🚨" I knew just by the emojis that there wasn't a real emergency.

"😂 calm down, Bob. What's up?" I texted, reaching a red light.

"I'm booooored."

"Go do something. Read Qu'ran." I texted back.

"Why would you say something I can't argue." He sent. "😭"

"😂😂😂 finneee. Do you wanna read more of my stuff?"

"Always."

"Then go to my room and grab one of my finished journals from the first drawer of my bedside table." I sent.

"...will I not look like a creep if someone wakes up?"

"Oh, you will."

"..."

"You know you want to."

"Freak you."

"😝"

"🙄" Soon after, he sent a picture of a stack of journals sitting in my bedside drawer. "Which one?"

"The one with butterflies on it." The light turned green, so I put my phone down and drove into the parking lot. "I'm back btw."

"Do you have a lot of bags?" He asked.

"Kinda. I've got four." I got out of the car, opening the trunk.

"Alright, wait up. I'm coming down."

Words:
-Fajr: Morning prayer
-Wallah: I swear to god
-Ibadat: Fiqh, service or servitude in religion
