Part 16 - Rodent Problem
*Katherine's POV*
Two Days Later...
I was drawing the designs for my current client, this one wants everything that screams 'I'm from Texas' in every room of his house, I had my work cut out for me this week. I've been working my ass off with this project for a week and it's driving me up the wall, I'm more anxious than anything...what if my client doesn't like my designs, or gets offended if I go overboard with the whole Texas theme?
I groan in frustration and scrunch my drawing up in a ball and toss it to the growing pile in the corner of the room, the husband walks into the room. As much as I love him, he better be nice and not act like a little smart ass or so help me.
"I swear that pile of paper was half the size last time I was in the room." He points out.
I look up from my sketch pad to look up at him.
"I just...I'm stuck." I sigh.
He sits beside me, picking up my most recent failure. He unscrunches it and folds it out, looking at it.
"I like this one, why did you toss it?" He looks at me and asks.
"Because, its too much. I don't want to go overboard with the whole Texas thing, I don't want him to think I'm insulting him." I explain.
I hate it when he looks at me like that...it's the 'I'm judging you silently' look. I roll my eyes, waiting for him to respond.
"How do you know unless you present the idea to him?" He asks, his facial expression gone from judging to curious.
"Because, I'm not set on what I'm gonna do yet. I'm tweaking what I originally wanted to do." I say.
He raises his eyebrow then looks at my pile of paper balls on the floor then back up at me.
"Which ball contains the original design? Oh wait...is this a lucky dip?" He asks.
I frown at his comments, snatching the paper from his hand and flinging it on the floor.
"If you're gonna be a pain in the neck, don't. I'm stressed enough as it is." I look at my sketch pad.
He sighs, wrapping his arm around me, pulling me into him.
"I'm sorry, baby. I wasn't trying to annoy you, I just wish you knew how amazing you are at your job. You're over thinking this, why don't you draw some different designs and get him to pick out his favourite?" He suggests.
I tap my pencil on my chin, contemplating in doing that instead of continuing to see how many balls of paper it takes to fill the whole room which would eventually cause me to pull all my hair out.
"I could, I guess it wouldn't hurt." I shrug my shoulders.
"There's my girl. You haven't had any complaints on a room so far from every room you have designed in your whole career, so you must be doing something right." He kisses my cheek.
I smile at his comment, I peck his lips.
"That's true. Thank you." I say.
"Of course, I don't like seeing you this stressed." He says.
I set my sketch pad beside me, turning to face him. Holding his hands in mine, smiling at him.
"What are your plans for today?" I ask.
He smiles down at me, squeezing my hands lightly.
"I have a meeting downstairs soon with some people about a music awards that I'm being asked to attend and perform at." He explains.
I nod.
"That sounds great, you decided yet about going?" I ask.
"Hmm, I don't know. We'll see, but if I say yes...wanna be my plus one?" He winks at me.
"Of course." I giggle.
He gets up and walks to the door, looking back at me.
"It's a date." He smiles before disappearing.
I chuckle and shake my head, I grab my sketch pad and begin drawing again.
Hours Later...
Hubby should have been done with that meeting by now, I get up and walk out of the room and towards the staircase. I furrow my brows once I hear some voices, I hear his and...a woman's?
"It's been quite a long time and you still haven't given me my money." The woman says.
My eyes widen, is that...Mayte?
"Yeah there's a reason for that. You ain't getting any, get yourself a job like everybody else then it shouldn't be a problem." My husband argues back.
I sit on the stairs where I can view the both of them, making sure I'm not noticeable. What does Madagascar Garcia want now?
"You owe me, after the way you treated me." She scoffs.
He looks up at her rather annoyed.
"Me? I owe you? What for? You've done nothing but cause me trouble since I tossed you on your ass out on the curb." He fires back.
Mayte smiles, putting her hand on her hip.
"I'll make you a deal..." She says.
He frowns, squinting his eyes at her.
"A deal?" He asks.
"Yes, you give me what you promised...and I won't tell your precious Katherine about what really happened with us." She says.
I raise an eyebrow, what REALLY happened?
He scoffs at her threat, shaking his head.
"What really happened? Can it. I told her everything." He says.
She raises her eyebrows in amusement, staring him down.
"Oh? So she knows about our son?" She asks.
My jaw drops, son?
He looks away from her, staring in a space.
"Your silence says no. So technically you lied to her and still keeping secrets from her." Mayte smirks.
I get up from the stairs and walk down, the both of them snapping their heads in my direction. My now very silent husband looking at me in fear, while Mayte looks a little too happy.
Tears well up in my eyes as I stare angrily at who I thought was my honest husband.
"Son? You two have a child together?" I ask.
"Yep!" Mayte chimes in.
I turn my head to look at her, clenching my jaw.
"I didn't ask you, get out before I drag you out by your hair." I seethe.
A guard comes in and escorts her out, I turn my attention back to the man who's got a lot of explaining to do or he'll be spending the rest of his days alone.
"You have sixty seconds to explain before I go pack my things." I demand in tears.
