Retrieval ✨

Kai's POV

Honestly, everything Vivi had said was true.

I miss my parents.

A lot.

I remember when I was just a little boy. My parents and I would play this game. I called it Skella-kill. Weird name, I know. My parents would pretend to be skeletons and I would pretend to slay them. It always made me laugh, and it was a blast.

And when they sung me to sleep. I remember my dad's deep, soothing voice, harmonized by my mom's sweet, melodic voice. They could sing really well, and I was always out within minutes.

I also loved watching them build weapons. I would assist them by getting them pieces of metal, you know, simple stuff like that. I always admired my dad. How hard he worked to provide for all of us, it inspired me. I wanted to be just like him.

But now... he's gone. So is mom.

It was just me and Nya.

But not anymore.

Now, we have Vivi, Cole, Zane, Lloyd, and Jay. Sensei Wu, Garmadon, Misako. We had our own family. A new one. And I love every single one of them. Even motormouth. I would do anything to protect them, and hopefully, they would do the same for me.

"You know Lloyd, you could learn a thing or two from her. She's good."

All of us spun our heads around to find Garmadon standing in the doorway.

"What do you mean?" Lloyd asked.

"Her leadership skills of course! You the team leader you know" he chuckled.

"Daaaaaaaad!" Lloyd whined. "I'm not that bad!"

He chuckled again, and walked up to us.

"But aren't you guys forgetting something?" He asked.

We looked at each other, puzzled. What were we forgetting? We saved Nya, and... oh.

OH.

"Chen! He's still out there on a tree!" I realized.

"Crap! Your right!" Vivi responded. We rushed out the door to go finish him once and for all.

Well, we tried to.

Garmadon put his hand out in from of us, blocking our path to the door.

"You wanna move?" Cole asked him.

"There is another thing your forgetting." He warned. "Think ninja, think."

Groaning, we did as he said.

"I don't get it. What are we missing?" Nya pondered out loud.

A few minutes of silence passed, before someone finally spoke up.

"Wait. Weren't there other ninjas on the ship? Besides you guys?" Vivi pointed out.

"Precisely" Garmadon answered, moving so we could access the door again.

We briefly looked at each other before sprinting  out the door, grateful for the task.

"I'll get Chen and that lava head," Vivi declared heading in that direction "and Jay, you better tell me you know what when we have the time!".

Huh, wonder what that's about.

"I'll come with you" Lloyd offered, running after her.

"What about us?" Cole called out after them.

"Split up into pairs and look for the others! Meet back in my room in an hour!" Lloyd yelled, before he disappeared behind Vivi into the bushes.

I sighed. I wanted to go with Vivi! It's like everyone else has properly hung out with her but me. And Nya of course.

"So... who shall the pairs be?" Zane questioned.

"I don't know, do your weird random computer thing." Cole suggested.

"Very well. There is an uneven number of us so there will be a group of three."

We nodded, and Zane started his calculations.

I could see jay crossing his fingers, eyeing Nya. Ugh, whyyyy!

I discreetly nudged him, drawing my finger across my throat as a warning when he looked at me. He gulped, but rolled his eyes.

"You first, then me." He declared, glaring at me.

"Calculations ready" Zane beeped.

"Group one: Jay and Kai"

"Ughhh" we groaned. Why zap trap of all people?

The others gave us a look, but we just ignored them, our eyes fixed on each other.

"....oookay so that makes us group two?" Nya asked.

"Yes." Zane nodded.

Jay's POV

Of all people! I get stuck with the guy who has hair gel for a brain.

He is such a hypocrite! He tells me to stay away from Nya, while he's all over Vivi!

Grumbling, Kai and I headed off to the right while Cole, Zane, and Nya made their way to the left.

I was a little nervous since Cole was with Nya, but he's a man if word. If he says he's over her, he is.

We walked in silence for awhile, before I felt the need to say something. Guess I really can't stay without talking.

"What do you think is gonna happen when we get back to Ninjago?" I asked.

Kai shrugged, looking off into the distance. His mind was clearly onto something.

"Whatcha thinkn bout?" I asked him.

He sighed, turning to me. "Skylor"

Right, I forgot about her.

I guess things might be kinda hard for him right now. He just fell in love, and got his heart broken. Trust me, I know how it feels. I mean, the girl I love randomly fell for my best friend. It felt like a betrayal, especially after our date.

"You okay?" I asked him.

He shrugged. "At the moment, I don't know, I'm over her, but I'm not, y'know?"

I nodded, even though I had no idea what he was going on about.

"See, people think finding love is easy for me, since i'm hot."

Wow, way to hide that pride.

"It really isn't" He continued. "Love is a two sided thing. Being loved isn't enough to love. Skylor was different from any girl I've ever met. She didn't love me at first sight. Instead, I did. She gave me a challenge. I... loved that. "

"You like the chase, huh?" I asked.

He blew air out of his lips, letting out a chuckle. "Guess so."

"Hey! Porcupine man! Is Carlof!"

We turned around to find Carlof appearing out of the bushes, with many people behind him.

"Who's Porcupine man?" Kai asked, while I started laughing.

"It's you obviously!" I laughed.

"Yes! You! Your hair is all spiky spiky!" Carlof answered.

"What!?! I- whatever, let's go." Kai grumbled, earning a laugh from each of us.

We had about half the elemental masters here, so hopefully Nya's group found the rest.

~MEANWHILE~

Vivi's POV

I was running through the dense forest, with Lloyd right at my tail.

I love leading. I was born to be a leader. Being in charge makes me feel in control, alive. Being Lloyd's "sidekick" was gonna be tough, but I'll give it everything I've got.

Soon, we came to the place we left Chen and the redhead last evening.

"He's still here!" I called out behind me, as Lloyd made his way closer.

"What about Skylor?" He asked.

"Ah, so that's her name! I don't see her." I frowned.

"But if she's gone, why is he still here?" Lloyd questioned.

"Because I made a mistake." A strong voice called out.

We spun around and there stood Skylor, right in from of us.

I quickly used my power to hold her in place, freezing her limbs so she couldn't move.

"Ack! Let- ugh let me go!" She shouted, struggling to break free.

"Save it cherry head, it's no use. I'm too strong for you" I informed, clearly annoyed.

She betrayed Kai. Betray one of us, face all of us.

"How'd you escape, and why didn't you free him!" Lloyd asked.

"Like I said, I made a mistake!" She pleaded. "I realize what I've done is wrong, but I'm his daughter! I couldn't disobey him!"

"You kinda just did" I pointed out, earning an eye roll from her.

"I noticed. Now can you let me go?"

"I think we should." Lloyd agreed.

"Hmmm. Hold on, gimme a sec" I said.

I closed my eyes, with my head bowing down, and searched Skylor's head. I sorted through her memories, thoughts, and deepest secrets. And boy, they were bad.

But looking through her brain, I could see that she was really sorry. She without a doubt didn't want to follow her fathers orders, and hated every second of it.

"She's legit." I confirmed, releasing her from my mind's grasp.

She immediately stretched out her arms, ecstatic to be free.

"How did you know? And why did Yin seem to hate me?" She asked.

"Oh, she's Jay's twin sister." Lloyd explained.

"Vivian, call me Vivi" I added.

Lloyd continued. "She has an elemental power too."

"The element of physic energy, which I used to search your brain." I added once again. "Plus, you betrayed Kai. I don't want him to get hurt again, so yeah. Don't worry, I don't hate you. I still don't completely like you, but it's a start."

She nodded,  a smile on her face. "So, what are we going to do with my father?" She asked.

"No idea." Greenie and I said in unison.

"Mmmm! Mhmmmmhhhhm! Hhhhum!" Chen mumbled, the stick still in his mouth.

I casually removed the stick, via telekinesis. Skylor gasped in amazement, earning a chuckle from me.

Immediately after the stick was taken out of his mouth, Chen started violently spitting out bark.

The three of us took a step back, disgusted.

"You done yet?" I asked sarcastically, wrinkling my nose.

The man glared at me before answering. "LET ME GO! SKYLOR, GET THEM!" He ordered.

"Nope, you're on your own." She answered, positioning her hands on her hips.

"Wait, what were you doing all night, since you were free?" Lloyd asked out of the blue.

"Defeating my fathers workers." She said, pride evident in her voice. She held up a weird helmet with a snake on it as a trophy.

"YOU WHAT?!?" Chen screamed.

"Chill, we can hear you." I stated.

"Ughhhhh! Why why why why!" Chen whined.

"Oh my goddnesss! ARGH!" I groaned, literally about to pull out my hair.

This man was as frustrating as a person can get.

"Is he always this annoying?" I asked blandly.

"Yup. Try living with him." Skylor retorted.

I shook my head. "You poor child."

"So I guess we should just take him back to the others? We're supposed to meet up soon anyway" Lloyd offered.

"Sure. Let's goooo!" I sang, happily stuffing the stick back into Chen's mouth.

This man is the definition of an idiot.

"So, you gonna do that cool mind lifting thing again?" Skylor asked.

As if right on cue, I hoisted this weirdo into the air. "Yup."

"Wheeeeee!" Chen managed to yell through the stick.

I rolled my eyes, while the other two laughed.

"Vi, are we there yet?" Lloyd asked after we had been walking for a few minutes.

"You're the one leading the way! I don't even know this forest or whatever it is." I responded.

"But you ran all the way here without anyone showing you the way!" He rebutted.

"Well I remembered the way there, but not back"

"Doesn't your brain ever get tired? Or hurt? Y'know, from all your power usage." Lloyd questioned.

"All the time. I get killer headaches." I shuddered.

We walked on, and on, and on. Running to where we left Skylor's dad didn't take this long whatsoever.

"Hey...Uh..Vivi?" Skylor whispered.

"Hmm? What?" I asked, lowering my voice.

"When you looked through my brain, did you...see everything?" She asked, her voice slightly quavering.

"Oh, yeah I did. Really sorry about that, I have to sort through to find what I'm looking for. You know, brains sure could use a table of contents" I joked.

"So you know that..."

"Your extremely in love with Kai? Hehe yup!" I teased.

"Ughhhh!" Skylor groaned. "You better not tell him!" She warned.

"I'll think about sparing you" I winked.

"Vivian!" The redhead yelled, before running towards me. I ran ahead, urging Lloyd to do so as well. Didn't want to get lost.

Surprisingly, running while carrying an evil man above your head with physic power wasn't all that difficult.

Soon, we reached the...palace? I have no idea what to call it. Tournament rooms work I guess.

We walked into Lloyd's room, to find Nya and Zane already there. They had about six people with them, all elemental master I assumed. I was in the room, while Lloyd was standing in the doorway, with Skylor hidden behind him.

"There is NOT enough room in here." Lloyd pointed out.

"Hmm, good point. Let's go outside and wait for the others." I suggested.

Just as soon as we came in, we went back out, accompanied by Garmadon. We stood at the entrance of the building, right outside the front door. It was almost noon, and the others should be back soon.

We stood in silence for awhile, before someone finally spoke up.

"So, what's she doing here?" Nya sneered. Her fist was clenched, and she was definitely upset about something.

"Who? Skylor?" I asked, turning towards the redhead.

"Yes! Her! She's a traitor! She was the one spying for Chen!"the raven haired girl yelled.

I flinched, not expecting her to get so angry. Like brother like sister, I guess.

An array of gasps flooded the area, followed by angry whispers.

"Traitor!" A group of people yelled, attacking her via their elemental powers.

"STOP!" I screamed.

Pressing her eyelids together, Skylor braced for impact.

But it never came.

I stood in front of her, with my hands out in front of me. Using my physic bubble-like barrier, I managed to block the attacks.

"Step back, now." I ordered sternly.

Intimidated, all of them did, except one green haired girl.

"I'm not backing down to you! Who are you to give us orders?" She hissed.

"The second most powerful ninja in Ninjago, that's who" I responded, gritting my teeth.

She look surprised for a minute, before her face grew into a sneer. She retreated like her fellow elemental masters.

Now that Skylor was out of danger, I let my hands drop to my side, my power deactivated.

"My name is Vivian Gordon, but my friends call me Vivi. I am the purple ninja, and the master of physic energy. Don't be afraid of me, I'm on your side. Skylor here regrets what she did, I had proof. She's on our side as well."

"How do we know we can trust you?" A floating dude asked.

"If I wasn't on your side, I would've beaten all of you already." I pointed out.

"You know, you look kind of familiar" he added.

"Shes Jay's twin sister " Lloyd explained.

"Who is that? The one with the bushy eyebrows?"

"No, I believe that is Cole " Zane said.

"Hey, my eyebrows aren't bushy!" Cole pouted.

I let out a small laugh. Who knew the tough earth ninja was such a teddy bear.

"No, Jay is the one with the blue gi. Master of lightning" Nya explained.

"Yup! That's me!" A voice squeaked from behind us.

"Jay!" I embraced, relieved that he was finally back.

"Heya sis! I see you found Chen" he pointed above me.

Huh, I never realized he was still floating above my head.

"Oh, right" I mumbled, gently lowering him down a few feet. I let him fall the last two.

"Eek!" He yelled out in pain, though I could care less.

"He's not the only one they found" Kai sneered, his voice toxic.

Oh boy, this is going to be terrible.

"Kai, chill, she was forced to do his bidding. She's not the enemy!" I tried to convince him, motioning towards Chen.

"Everyone makes their own choices, she could've defied him. Instead, she gained our trust, and then stabbed us in the back! She helped the enemy, she clearly Doesn't care about us!" Kai shouted back.

"Kia, please, hear me out." Skylor begged.

Before he could answer, I sent him a mental message. One only he could hear. Physic thing.

Kai, please, listen to me. Hear her out, ok? She couldn't disobey her father and her life had been hard. I know she hurt you, I know she broke your heart, I know. But please, trust me. She's sorry. I care about you, I wouldn't let her hurt you again.

He froze, taking the message in. Finally he sighed, and nodded, agreeing to hear her out.

"Fine."

"Yes! Thank you" she responded, relief taking over her face.

She started walking out of earshot with him, but not before I could send one final message.

Hey Skylor. Look, I know your sorry, and I hope you've changed. I genuinely believe you have, but if you hurt Kai, or any of us ever again, I will end you. I won't hold back.

She paused for a brief second, taking my warning in. Shrugging It off, She walked away with him.

This better end well.
