Morro 🍃

Kai's POV

~A COUPLE HOURS AGO~

"So, you guys ready for this adventure?" I asked.

"Eh, I guess," Lloyd answered.

I sighed, and put a hand on his shoulder.

Right when Sensei delivered the news that Lloyd and Vivi has to go on a mission, Garmadon had left mysteriously. Not only that, Chen was gone too.

We had kept him locked up here, until we could get a cop to come by.

It's no coincidence that both Garmadon and Chen disappeared at the same time. It's connected somehow, and I think Lloyd knows it too.

"Listen kid, don't worry." I reassured him. "He'll come back."

"But you don't understand! I'm completely lost without him! I have nobody to look after me!" He complained, completely freaking out.

"Trust me, if anybody knows how hard growing up without a dad is, it's me." I said.

I chuckled, and nudged him on the head. "Don't worry, I'll look after ya."

He laughed, and begged me to stop.

Then, Vivi walked in.

"Awww you guys are such little kids," She snickered.

I laughed, and let Lloyd go.

"So, you ready for your first mission?" I asked her.

"Yup" she nodded. "I'm excited!"

"Well, they could've called us down for a stupid reason," Lloyd reasoned.

"Ugh, stop being so pessimistic! Lighten up green bean!" She laughed.

Lloyd let a small smile show, and pulled his mask over his head.

We were three feet from the ground.

"Ready to go?" He asked Vivi.

"How many times are you guys gonna ask? Yes!" She giggled, pulling her brand new, crisp purple mask over her head as well.

"Well, good luck you two," I dismissed.

"Take care of my motormouth twin for me if I don't make it," Vivi joked.

But it wasn't her who never came back.

~PRESENT TIME~

I was in the dojo, squaring off with Zane.

No matter how many fire punches I threw at him, he always blocked them with his ice. Come on! I mean, fire literally melts ice!

Finally, Zane decided to switch to offense, and pinned me to the wall with his ice.

"Guess I win- again!" Zane laughed.

I let out a huff in frustration. "Just let me out already!"

"As you wish," Zane shrugged, breaking the ice.

I plopped to the poor, released from the freezing prison. "Well that was annoying."

"Losing- again?" Zane snickered.
I groaned and got up from the floor. Suddenly, the dojo door burst open, revealing Jay.
"Come on! They're back! From the mission!" He squealed.

Zane and I glanced at each other before rushing out the door, with Jay close behind.
Once we finally made it to the control room, which is where the exit is at, (well, one of them) we watched as Nya pulled the bounty a few feet lower.

Finally, the door opened and Vivi climbed in.

Right away, I could tell something was wrong. Her face was pale, and she looked extremely nervous, guilty even.

"Where's..." I started.

She took glance away from the floor, and looked me in the eye. She shook her head, and bit her lip.

"Lloyd's in trouble."

Vivi's POV

I am THE WORST gaurdian/sidekick

I can't believe I let this happen. I swear, I'm gonna cry.

I'm struggling to keep the tears in, but I know my eyes are glossed over.

From regret, mostly disappointment.

"...what happened?" Kai asked, fear evident in his voice.

I sighed, gulping down the lump I didn't know was in my throat."It's a long story. Let me start from the beginning."

We all got as comfortable as we could, and I started the story I was dreading to tell.

"So...?" Cole trailed off, and I nodded, looking down.

"After Lloyd and I got the request to head to the library, we left the Bounty and soon got there. As you know."

Everyone nodded, as I continued.

"We asked the front guards what was wrong, and they said the watchman from the night before got spooked. They couldn't get anything out of him, so they asked Lloyd and I to try."

I waited for a response, but kept talking after nobody did.

"We agreed, and walked inside. The watchman was in there, and he looked absolutely terrible." I said, slightly disgusted by the memory. "He kept mumbling and speaking jibberish at first, but we got answers out of him eventually. Our lead was in the room of the stolen artifact "The Allied Armor of Azure."

I paused for a breath.

"We searched for clues for awhile, but found nothing. Then suddenly, the watchman himself attacked us. I saw him from the corner of my eye and did my best to protect Lloyd, who kept looking around. After that he just collapsed on the floor. Then we saw a ghost. No kidding."

I paused again, this time for effect. If i'm gonna tell this story, might as well make it interesting.

"I rushed over to the watchman to make sure he was okay, and he told me that that ghost had possessed him. I heard a scream behind me and saw that Lloyd was cornered. I was ready and about to fight that idiot of a ghost, but right then he threatened to kill Lloyd if I stepped closer."

A ninjas gasped, awaiting the rest of the dreadful story.

"I was confused, and didn't know what to do. Lloyd saw that, and told me to back away. As soon as I did, Morris possessed him, and shot a huge blast of wind at me, and knocked me against a wall. I hurt my shoulder, and by the time I got up he was gone with Lloyd. I'm really sorry."

"Morro." Sensei Wu gasped.
All of us spun our heads in his direction, not expecting him. We were so into the story, that we hadn't even noticed him and Misako come in.

"Who?" I asked.

"Morro. He was a former student of mine." He informed. "Master of wind."

"Wait, YOU HAD A STUDENT BEFORE US!?!" Jay screeched.

"Yes. I thought he was the green ninja at first, but he was not. He said I put false hope in him, and he turned. Not in a good way." Sensei shook his head, while sipping tea.

Where this man gets his tea and why he's addicted to it I will never know.

"So he's a ghost and he's trying to possess/kill us all? Cool, real cool," Cole sighed.

"I do not know what he has set out to do, but I do believe he is up to no good." Sensei replied, again sipping his tea.

"Well yeah, I could've told you that!" Kai huffed, and walked out of the room with a grunt.

"Dang, what's his problem?" Cole wondered out loud, raising an eyebrow.

"I think I know," I muttered, jogging after him.

I followed the sound of his footsteps, until I heard the sound of him slamming his door.

I sighed, and waited around a corner for awhile.

"Hey, Kai?" I finally said, approaching his door.

He stayed silent and didn't say anything.

I waited patiently, and twiddled my thumbs.
"You know, I get how you feel."

Still nothing.

"Its just like when we were kids. You try to do something nice, and when it goes wrong, you get frustrated. Everyone tells you to calm down, but that just makes it worse. They tell you you have anger issues, when really, you just don't know how to properly express your emotions."

How do I know all this? Well, it's from experience.

"I was always trying to help my parents as a child, but whenever I messed up, my dad in particular would lose patience. I would get really frustrated with myself for not being good enough for him. I was taught that crying was weak, so I never cried. I just held every tear in and turned my shame into pure anger."

But in reality, the shame never went away.

I still heard nothing from the fire ninja.
I sighed, and crouched down where I was standing.

A few seconds later his door opened.
He still didn't say anything, just walked back his bed.

After I felt the time was right, I stood up and walked in.

The boy ninjas all shared a room, and Kai had the left bottom bunk.

He was lying down on his red sheets, enveloped in the shadows casted by the bunk above him.

"Hey" I said, climbing up onto Jay's bunk above his.

".....Hey," he responded after a while, hesitation clear in his voice.

I stayed quiet. Too much talking, and I'm gonna get a blast of fire to the face.

"Was everything you said true?" Kai finally spoke.

"Mhm," I nodded.

"So I'm not the one with a problem then?"

"Well, it's not necessarily a problem. " I leaned forward over the wooden beams meant to keep you from falling to look down at Kai. He was sitting up now, with his feet planted firmly on the ground. His hands were clenched into fists in his lap, and that's where his gaze was.

"It's just that you don't know how to get rid of the feeling you're feeling. You're impulsive, and do the first thing that comes to your mind naturally: you get angry."

"So is that good or bad?"

I shrugged. "You could definitely try to be calmer, but honestly, getting angry is part of your charm. You wouldn't be the real Kai without it."

A small smile creeped up in his face. "Charm, huh?"

"Well, yeah. Honestly you have one of the most iconic personalities out there." I chuckled.

"Go on?" He insisted, now looking up at me with a smirk.

Ah, he's back. Of course he wants to hear about himself. Though, that's one of the things I love about him.

He's just like me.

"You're egoistic, brave, a hothead, jump headfirst into any situation, you act fearless though you aren't, you're a leader, you have a great sense of justice, aaaand you're kinda stupid at times."

"Heh, well that's true isn't i- Hey what!?!"

I laughed, and pulled the hair in my face out of the way with my hand. "You gotta admit, I'm not wrong."

"Yeah, THAT'S not happening" He snickered.

Soon, the energy died down a bit.
Finally, I could get to what was really bothering him.

"You're worried about Lloyd, aren't you?"

He sighed, and leaned back onto the bed post. "Usually, I wouldn't admit it, but you're the only one that really gets me. Well, my dad did but..."

"I'll never know if my real parents ever got me. Heck, they probably didn't even really love us." I added solemnly.

"Vivi...-" Kai started, but I cut him off.

"No, no, I get it I should be over it by now and appreciate what I have but-"

"Thank you."

" It still hurts- huh?" I stopped mid-sentence.

"Thank you. Usually I work things out alone, but I don't mind having you around. Heck, I love it." He smiled.

Oh, that charming Kai smile.
Never goes out of style.

I smiled back, and looked into those amber eyes of his. I saw something that I always wish I had received as a child: Love.

"You know, your parents did love you and Jay. They probably had a good reason for letting you go like that."

"Abandoning," I corrected. "But... you really think so?"

"Yeah," He nodded.

A knock echoed through the room, causing Kai to jump and me to flinch. "Come in," Kai called out.

The door opened slowly with a long creak. Just as slow, the ninja poke their heads in with caution.

"Uh, you can come in. I'm not gonna kill you y'know" Kai rolled his eyes.

I snickered.

"Actually, there is a 75% chance that you will attempt to injure us." Zane said, walking in before the other ninjas.

"Hah, wait really?" I laughed.

Kai grumbled, and flopped down on his bed, just to shoot back up a few seconds later.

"We need to save Lloyd."

"Well, yes that's the plan," Nya confirmed.

"Well let's go!"Kai shouted, jumping up from his sitting position and running towards the door.

Pfft, he lookes like a red lighting bolt.

Unluckily for him, Wu stood in the way.

"We have a problem. Morro- well, Possessed Lloyd is coming here. Soon."

Kai's eyes widened. "We need to go now."
Before the rest of us could say anything, he had run out the door.

I quickly jumped down from the bed and sprinted after him, with the ninja close behind.

"Vivi! Slow down!" Cole called out from the distance. I looked over my shoulder and realized how fast I'd actually been running.

"I can't, just try to keep up!" I yelled back.

This is all my fault.

I should've protected Lloyd.

I'm a failure.

I fought hard to keep tears in. Probably the wind in my eyes from running.

I ran faster, until I was running beside Kai.
We're gonna bring Lloyd back.
Together.

~~~~~~~~~~~
We made our way outside the Bounty, to find Morro not far away, but in the distance.
We don't have much time.
"You guys should fly away. Take the Destiny's Bounty to safety." I announced to the others when they finally caught up.
"Wha... what about you?" Cole asked, panting.
Huh, guess we ran pretty fast.
"We're gonna take Morrow down." Kai answered, determined.
"Actually, I do not think that would be very wis-" Zane started, but was cut off by a strong gust of wind threatening to blow us down.
"There's no time, GO!" Kai yelled, urging them to leave.
"Vivi, please don't do this, I just got you back!" Jay insisted.
I looked down, and shook my head.
"I love you big bro, but this whole thing is my fault. I have to go after him." I gave him a small smile.
"But-"
"GO!" Kai and I both screamed, scaring the other ninja.
"Fine. We'll go, but we're coming back for you right after." Cole agreed sternly. "Just...Be careful, okay?" He added, his face softening.
A stronger gust of wind knocked us over, causing us to tumble into a tree.
"Ugh!" I cried out, rubbing the now tender spot on my back.
Using the tree as a shield, I motioned for the rest of the ninja to take the Bounty and leave.
They stared at Kai and I solemnly, before walking in the opposite direction.
"KAI IF ANYTHING HAPPENS TO HER IMA ZAP YOU SO HARD YOUR GRAND KIDS WILL FEEL IT!" Jay screamed, earning a laugh from me.
"Whoa there, calm down," Kai chuckled. "Don't worry, she'll be fine."
As the ninja left, another strong puff of wind stripped the tree clean of its leaves.
And then entered Morro.
