things are too fast now, i wanna be in slowtown

Friday, May 12th. One more day.

Josh was woken by his dad, who was shaking his arm. "You kids not going to school today?"

Josh shook his head, unable to speak after having just been woken up.

"Okay, well I picked your suits up late last night. They're laying on the couch. And I put those bombs together for you, too. They're in a box under my bed."

"Thanks," Josh muttered, voice hoarse from not being used since yesterday.

His dad nodded and left him alone with Tyler. Josh got out of bed with a groan. It was 8:30 in the morning, way earlier than Josh would have liked. Regardless, he worked up the energy to go downstairs and retrieve their suits. He smiled. Seeing them made memories of the last Purge flood his mind. They wore the same suit every year, it was their tradition. White dress shirt, red blazer, black tie, and black jeans.

Josh carried the outfits upstairs and laid them out on his bed for Tyler to see when he woke up. He kissed his boyfriend's forehead before he went and took a shower.

Hot beads of water cascaded over his chiseled body, relaxing the muscles in his back. He signed in content as he went about washing himself.

The Purge is tomorrow, he repeated over and over again in his mind. He felt his throat close up, making him wonder, am I scared? Josh had never really been scared of Purge Night, not even when he was younger. Things felt different this time; they were different.

It wouldn't just be a "kill and go back to normal the next day" thing. It would be a "kill and run away with Tyler so you can continue killing" kind of thing. Josh had never actually broken the law before. They weren't even supposed to use weapons above class 4, which meant explosives like grenades and bazookas. Did a home-made bomb count as being above class 4? Josh didn't actually know.

It didn't really matter, because Josh would be a criminal soon anyway. Him and Tyler would be in constant hiding and probably on the run a lot. Just thinking about it made Josh's head spin. Most people would think "I wouldn't want to live like that" but Josh didn't really care. As long as he was with Tyler, he was happy.

Just thinking about the boy made him swoon. The only problem was that Purge Night was tomorrow and Josh felt unprepared. He needed more time, things were moving too fast. He wished he could slow time down as he turned the water off and stepped out of the shower. The redhead lazily dragged the towel over his wet skin. He never really bothered to dry off all the way, even though it bugged Tyler.

Josh went back in his bedroom, towel wrapped around his waist. His hair was still dripping, making beads of water trickle down his chest. He smiled, seeing Tyler now awake and eyeing the suits. Tyler looked at him and smiled sleepily.

"Can we try them on?"

Josh nodded. He pulled on a pair of boxers and dropped his towel. Tyler clicked his tongue and picked the towel back up. He viciously rubbed it over Josh's head as he tried to dry his hair, making the older laugh.

"It's fine, baby. Let's try these bad boys on."

They got dressed together, and admired themselves in Josh's full length mirror. Josh's thoughts were running wild, seeing Tyler in that red blazer. He could imagine Tyler Saturday night, with his red contacts that made him seem all the more evil. He thought about how good it would feel to have his hands wrapped around someone's neck right now, how good it would feel to watch the life drain from their eyes. Josh gulped, watching his adams apple bob.

"You look great," Tyler complimented. "Always do."

"Same goes for you."

"Nervous?" Tyler asked, his hand finding Josh's.

"Are you?"

"Yeah," Tyler admitted, making Josh feel slightly more at ease.

"Me too. Are you afraid of dying?"

"No," Tyler scoffed. "I'm afraid of you dying and me being stuck here without you."

Josh was glad Tyler felt the same way. He nodded. "Can we make a promise?"

"What is it?"

Josh looked at the shorter in the mirror, gripping his hand tightly. "If the cops get to us, we'll kill ourselves before they can take us away from each other."

"Deal," Tyler responded without hesitation. "I promise."

"I promise, too. I love you. So much."

"I love you too," Tyler smiled. "Can we change into comfy clothes now?"

"Yeah," Josh chuckled.

They both changed into Josh's clothes; sweatpants and t-shirts. Josh took a seat at the wooden desk who became his best friend when Purge Night was close. He started making a list of names of all their targets. Tyler sat on his lap.

"I think I'm crazy, but I have a soft spot for you," he said, his head resting on Josh's shoulder.

"You think so?"

Tyler nodded, his fluffy hair tickling Josh's chin. "Same for you, too."

"Maybe," Josh agreed, already on to the tenth name.

"Are your parents here?"

Josh shook his head. "They're both at work."

"Can I ride you again?"

Josh grinned, but it was gone quickly. "Sorry baby, we have stuff to do today."

"Like what? It'll take, like, ten minutes!"

"I'm making this list, then we're going to your house to get your stuff, then we're packing my bag, and I want to take you out to lunch somewhere in between there."

"Okay," Tyler surprisingly responded after a moment. Josh expected him to whine or argue.

"That's all?"

"Yeah, because I really wanna go out to lunch with you."

They both laughed, Tyler's hot breath against Josh's neck. He was on the twenty-fifth name now.

"You have that Alex kid, right?"

"Of course I do, they're first on the list," Josh smirked.

"Good. I get to go first then?"

"Yeah, I went first last year."

Her name was Marissa Decker. She was in Josh and Tyler's grade, she would've been a senior with them this year. She was a whore; always flirted with every guy in school, including Tyler. Josh had never actually talked to her, but he didn't need to. He already knew she was a low-life that would never amount to anything. He did her a favor, really; killing her before boys could do far worse to her.

Josh stabbed her six times before slitting her throat. Her blood felt gross. It wasn't because Josh didn't like blood, but because everything about that girl was disgusting. Josh was cut out of the memory as Tyler took the pencil from him.

"What are you doing?" Josh asked.

"Marissa is already dead. You killed her last year, remember?"

Josh realized he had accidentally written the girl's name down. He laughed to himself. "Sorry, I was just thinking about how it felt to kill her. Is that bad?"

"Maybe to a normal person. But to me? Nah."

Josh smiled. He was always glad to hear Tyler say that Josh's crazy thoughts weren't so crazy to him. If anything, he was almost always thinking the same thing.
