i try to say goodbye, defy, and deny what it is I'm fearing

Thursday, May 11th. Two more days.

"Two days," Tyler said the second his eyes opened when Josh's alarm woke them up for school.

"Two days," Josh repeated in a groggy voice, shutting his alarm off.

"Do we leave a note for your parents?"

"No," Josh shook his head. "I don't want them to know."

"And we're just going to run away when The Purge is over?"

"Yep."

"Where to?"

"I don't know, where have you always wanted to live?"

"California."

"California it is, then."

🔪👻🔪

Tension was only growing at school. Everybody was avoiding Josh and Tyler at all costs. The couple simply walked with their heads up, Josh's arm hanging over Tyler's shoulders.

"Look at them. They're terrified."

"For good reason," Josh chuckled.

They stopped at Tyler's locker, like always. Josh never brought anything to school with him, it all stayed untouched in his locker.

"Excuse me," Josh heard a small voice from behind him.

He turned around, seeing a girl standing there. (bitches_are_bitches) She visibly gulped, anxious eyes looking anywhere but Josh's.

"What?" Josh asked coldly.

"You're... Blocking my locker."

"Guess you'll have to wait," Josh responded, pursing his lips into a small smile.

"I just need my math homework is all..."

"And I said you'll have to fucking wait."

Tyler closed his locker suddenly, eyeing the girl before them.

"He said you'll have to wait."

"I know what he said, it'll just take a second."

"He said," Tyler paused, leaning into the girl's face. "you'll have to wait."

"I need to give it to a friend, so I just-"

"I don't remember asking," Josh clenched his jaw, giving the girl a blank stare.

"Y-You didn't, but it's important-"

"It can't be that fucking important," Tyler muttered. "Come back in five minutes, just leave us alone."

"But it'll only take a sec-"

"Jesus Christ! Leave!" Josh yelled suddenly, getting as close to her face as Tyler was. He could tell she felt threatened, not only from the look in her eyes but because she was leaning away from the two of them.

"O-Okay, I'm sorry," she mumbled quickly and sped walked away.

"Holy shit," Tyler sighed. "That was fucking annoying."

Josh could tell Tyler was mad, he was swearing excessively. He pushed his rough lips against Tyler's temple, making the boy sort of smile before he got serious again.

"Can I kill her?"

"I don't care what you do, baby."

"I'm going to kill her."

"Do you even know her name?"

"Yes, it's Courtney. She sits at my table in art."

"There's 16," Josh smiled, letting his head fall to rest on top of Tyler's.

The couple stood there in silence until the bell rang, sending teenagers through the halls.

"I love you," Josh said, planting kisses along Tyler's forehead.

"I love you too, see you later."

Josh walked away quickly so he could get to history early and take a maybe five minute nap. His eyes trailed over all the kids on the opposite side of the hall, each of them avoiding eye contact with him. He chuckled before someone ran out of a door as he walked past, nearly knocking him off his feet. She called out "watch where you're going!" but didn't bother to stop.

Josh felt more angry than he should've, his jaw clenched tight. He grabbed the end of the girl's hair, stopping her in her tracks. (Annikusi21)

"What the hell!?" she yelled, turning around with a confused look on her face. He recognised her as Annika, a girl in his history class.

She saw Josh and her eyebrows rose while her eyes widened. "Sorry," she said quickly.

Josh ran his tongue along his top teeth, staring dead into her eyes. He clenched the fist that wasn't holding onto her hair. Could Josh punch a girl? Is that bad?

"You watch where you're fucking going," he spoke lowly, trying so hard not to lash out on her. She nodded quickly, eyes darting around the hallway.

"I have to go to class."

"I did too, before you ran into me," Josh was bored now, slightly annoyed. Why the hell did people keep running into him? Was he some kind of people magnet now?

"Again, sorry," she apologized, making Josh let go of her hair.

"See you Saturday," he said, just for the hell of it, grinning at her fearful expression.

He walked away finally, cursing at the girl under his breath for ruining his potential five minute nap.

🔪👻🔪

"I just want to kill everyone," Josh sighed as Tyler joined him at their table.

"Yeah, but that's like impossible."

Tyler set a water bottle between the two of them, along with the lunch he'd packed at Josh's house.

"I can't eat," Josh shook his head.

"Whatever, more for me."

"I don't feel right, Tyler."

"You always feel this way when Purge Night is near," Tyler said, opening a bag of goldfish.

"Not like this. I feel different."

"Like what?"

"I don't know, you don't feel different?"

"Yeah, but I'm not worrying about it like you are."

"I'm not worrying," Josh argued. He wasn't the kind of person that worried, Tyler was. Josh didn't know why he was so bothered but Tyler was fine.

"Are you scared of going crazy?" Tyler asked the same question from the other night.

"Right now? Honestly, yeah. I don't want to snap before Purge Night. Afterwards, I don't give a shit."

"Why are you scared of that?"

"Because, I don't know, it's not part of our plan. If either of us snaps before Purge Night, we don't get to go out on Saturday. One of us will be in jail, and the other will be totally lost."

"Good point," Tyler responded, chewing on his lip as he took in what Josh said. "Only two more days, Josh. You can do it. We don't even have to come to school tomorrow."

"I wasn't planning on it."

"Is this our last day then?"

Josh smiled. "Yeah, it is."

Thank god, after today they'd never step foot in that hell ever again.

"Why not cause a little trouble, then?" Tyler suggested, his seemingly innocent eyes asking for Josh's approval.

Josh gave Tyler a kiss and pulled away grinning. "Thats a great idea."
