Chapter 10: Our Pumpkin Princess

All of the town residents continued to party in the town square, the two witches flying through the sky on their brooms and cackling away. The band jazzed up the whole town, making everybody dance even more. The whole town, including Jack and Sally were so relieved that Bella was once again, alive and dancing with the residents. Their hearts broke when they witnessed Bella die in Jack's arms.

And Sally's heartbreaking scream did not make matters any better. They had lost their daughter for about a minute, and every single monster thought they had lost her forever. But seeing her come back to life, it truly lifted up their spirits and they knew they just had to celebrate.

One of the vampire brothers was dancing with Bella, a bright smile on her face. She was so thankful to be alive, to be back with the town residents, knowing everybody would once again be safe. Now that Oogie and Danny were gone for good, Bella felt at peace with herself. She knew that her father would never bring harm to her ever again. It was still going to take awhile to erase the memories of Danny, but right now, she just wanted to focus on having fun and thanking God for giving her a second chance at life.

Jack and Sally were dancing in the town as well but they were slow dancing. Jack had his long arm around her waist, his bony hand resting on her hip, and his other hand holding Sally's. Sally had her other hand resting on his chest, over his heart. Even though his heart wasn't beating, if it did beat, she knew it would beat for her, and she knew that his heart would be full of so much love and adoration. As they danced, they looked over and watched Bella dance with the Mayor, making them both smile. It brought them so much joy seeing her with so much liveliness, even after the earlier events.

Then they watched Bella stop dancing, look around and she started walking towards the gate. Jack and Sally slowly stopped dancing as they watched her walk through the bars of the gate, making her way to the cemetery. "Why is she going to the cemetery? Is she alright?" Jack asked and Sally rested both hands on her chest, standing up on her toes and placing a kiss on his bony lips.

"Well, let's go follow her and see for ourselves, my love." She said before grabbing his bony hand and she started walking with him, making their way through the gate. The cemetery was mostly quiet, the only thing heard being the howling wind, but other than that, there was mostly quietness. As Jack and Sally walked through the cemetery, they noticed Bella sitting on top of Spiral Hill, which reminded them of the night they first adopted Bella. They wondered what she was doing up there, hoping that she was alright.

Bella was sitting on her knees, her back facing Jack and Sally, with one hand in her lap, the other gently stroking the necklace Dr. Finkelstein had made for her. A soft grin was on her lips and her eyes were closed. Despite it being so quiet outside, She didn't even hear her parents walking up the hill. But it made her aware when she felt Jack's bony hand rest on her shoulder. Her eyes opened and she looked to the side, seeing Jack on his knees beside her. Then she felt someone take her hand and she looked to the other side, seeing Sally kneeling down as well. Jack brushed a strand of Bella's blonde hair out of her face, his bony fingertips slightly tracing her temple.

"Are you alright, spiderweb? Weren't you having fun?" Jack asked and Bella nodded her head, giving Sally's hand a gentle squeeze. She cleared her throat before beginning to speak.

"I'm okay, daddy. Just, needed a moment to clear my head, especially with everything that happened earlier. I just can't believe Danny is actually dead." She said as she shifted so she was now sitting down and she pulled her knees to her chest, letting out a soft sigh as she gazed up at the moon. Jack and Sally shifted as well so they were in the same position as Bella, but Jack had to let one leg dangle since his legs were pretty long and he kept the other one in front of him. He wrapped his arm around her shoulders as he glanced at Sally before looking back at Bella.

"There were so many crazy things that happened today. We found out that Oogie and Danny were working together, Danny wanted to take you away... you ended up killing Oogie, and then Danny stabbed you... which I still can't believe happened..." he trailed off as he looked down, not wanting to remember how it all happened. None of them did. But it was going to take time.

"I-... I am so happy, and relieved that Oogie and Danny are dead... when Danny stabbed me, I was in shock, and all this pain filled my body. My heart couldn't stop racing, yet at the same time, I could already feel it start to slow down. At that moment, all my pent up hatred and anger for him just rose up out of me and I didn't even think twice when I stabbed him. I wanted him dead, once and for all. When you picked me up, I was in so much agony and I was scared for my life. I did not want to die. And then when we were in the town square, I could feel my life draining from my body. Hearing your cries and seeing Lock, Shock and Barrel crying, it broke my heart..." She said as tears pricked the corner of her eyes, which looked down at her knees.

Jack gently brought her head to rest against his shoulder, resting his chin on top of her head, and letting out a soft sigh. "I know, honey. We were so scared that we were going to lose you. And for a moment, we did. Seeing you take your last breath in my arms, your mouth and stomach covered in blood... we were beyond destroyed. But when we saw you start breathing again and your eyes open, you have no idea how much relief, and joy we felt, seeing that you were alright." He said as he looked down at her, running his bony digits through her long, blonde hair.

Bella couldn't help but smile as a tear rolled down her cheek. "It was scary... I just couldn't believe how angry I got when standing up to Danny. He had no idea the physical, mental and emotional turmoil he had put me through all these years. Absolutely no idea. And I knew I couldn't back down any longer, I had to stand up to him." She said and Sally kissed her cheek, her hand rubbing her back.

"And you did just that, darling. Not only did you stand up to him, but you showed how courageous and strong you are, despite everything that had happened to you. You should know that your father and I are very proud of you, so very proud." Bella's smile widened slightly as she looked at Sally before nuzzling her head against his shoulder.

"It did feel good to finally let out how I had been feeling. All these nightmares, memories even, just waking up remembering all of the awful things he had done to me, I just couldn't do it anymore. But you and Daddy did nothing but support me all the way, and you really, really helped me get over my fear. And seeing the joy on all the residents faces when I came back to life... feeling the way I felt, I felt new and improved. Also, this necklace that grandpa made for me, he has no idea how special this is to me."

Before she could say anything else, barking could be heard and the three looked over their shoulders, noticing Zero, Lock, Shock and Barrel running up the hill.

"Miss Bella, where were you? We've been looking for you!" Shock stated and Bella just chuckled.

"Come here, you three. And you too, Zero." She said with a grin and they wasted no time in rushing towards them, Jack and Sally wrapping their arms around each other.

"You know kids, I look at you as if you were my siblings, despite what happened a year ago. You know, with you... kidnapping me and all." She said and all three kids looked at her with sad eyes.

"I wish we could take that back, Miss Bella. We didn't want to do it but we didn't know what Oogie would do to us if we-" Bella just chuckled as she shook her head.

"Don't worry about it kids. It's all in the past. Yes you are still mischievous, curious, and little tricksters. But you mean well. You would never intentionally harm somebody and you have good hearts. I am glad you are a part of my life. Everything that has happened, it just brought us closer together. I love all of you so much." She said and everybody hugged her all at once, making her giggle.

"We love you too, spiderweb. You truly are the pumpkin princess of Halloweentown." Jack said before kissing her temple. As they hugged each other, they gazed up at the stars, watching them twinkle brightly, with the moon shining behind them. They could faintly hear the residents still partying in town, and it made them smile even more. Danny and Oogie were destroyed, Bella was alive, and every single one of them was safe. Jack and Sally helped a lot, but Bella was truly the one who saved everybody. And for that, they would always be eternally grateful.

Halloweentown and its residents were once again, safe and sound. Now it was only right for them to start counting down the days to next Halloween.
