Chapter 26: A body
The car pulled into the campus and Liana opened the door to get out.
"Wait," her mother said. "I want you to be very careful. Don't leave the campus and don't go anywhere alone. Send me a message when the lecture is over and we'll come and pick you."
"Okay, mum." Liana said, touching her mother's shoulder. "I've got this and don't worry so much. No one is going to kidnap me in the middle of the day. I can defend myself very well."
"The last time we thought you were safe, someone took you." Her father quipped in. "We're not taking any chances this time. Don't trust anyone except us."
"Okay," Liana got out and closed the door. Lately her parents had been watching her like hawkes. They were always everywhere even in her room whose window had been barricaded so it could never be opened again. It was annoying, not having any freedom and going everywhere with parents at her age. They did not even want her to resume school but she had insisted on coming back. She needed to be around people of her age.
"Hey," Rory walked up to her near the entrance to her. "How are you?"
"I'm okay," Liana said, not stopping to talk to him with decency. She had never liked Rory and how he kept hounding Gina about his love which seemed more like an obsession. "You?"
"It seems like someone is in a hurry," he said.
Liana stopped walking and faced him. "Yeah, I'm in a hurry and I don't like you at all so leave me alone."
If he was suprised at her reaction, he didn't show it.
"No wonder you always end up in trouble. With that kind of attitude, I wouldn't be surprised if you got kidnapped again. Maybe this time they'll actually kill you."
"Are you threatening me, Rory?" She asked him.
"No," he said and walked away.
Liana wanted to go after him but she changed her mind. What if Rory was the mastermind behind everything? He was obsessed with Gina and sometimes unrequited love makes people do things they'd never thought of doing. Liana frowned and entered the lecture room.
It was hard for her to concentrate during the lecture because she kept pondering over Rory's words. As soon as the professor walked out at the end of the lecture, she received a text message from RK. She immediately went on high alert, looking at everyone in the room. A few classmates we're already checking their phones but none of them looked like the kind that would go around kidnapping and raping people's daughters. Was RK watching her from somewhere? She had already checked the phone for any kind of spyware but there was nothing. Did RK have an accomplice in the class? How could he have known that the lecture was over?
Liana hurried outside to a secluded spot and waited for his call. She didn't have to wait long.
"Meet me at Moon's point in thirty minutes," he said.
"What do you want?" She asked. "To kill me? I'm not that foolish."
" I need to talk you about something but not over the phone. I don't trust you so much anymore."
"I'm not going."
"Should I kill Hellen?"
Liana thought of Hellen and decided to go since she'd made a promise to herself that she would help Hellen no matter what she had to go through.
"Make sure you don't tell anyone about this because I'll know just how I know where you're standing right now. Now, put that phone in your bag like the good girl you are."
When he hang up, she did as told and left the campus. She'd just exited the gate when she saw her parents car. She ran back inside and entered the faculty of architecture where her parents would never think of looking.
When her parents drove towards her faculty, she went out of the main gate.
"Hey, aren't you that girl who got kidnapped?" An extremely underweight girl asked her.
"Shut up," Liana said and continued to walk, hoping an empty taxi would pass by. Up ahead she saw a girl with a dark purple scarf getting into a car. She remembered Hellen had a scarf like that but so did lots of other people. Finally, she got a taxi which drove her to the junction that had a road branching off to the woods. She saw a familiar car driving away from the junction. It belonged to Dylan Ineroya but she didn't think much of it since he lived around there.
She waited until the taxi was gone before breaking into a run. She disappeared into the woods and avoided the path so that no one could follow her.
Within fifteen minutes, she had entered the clearing called Moon's Point. There was no one around and she wondered where RK was. Her phone dinged and she fished it out to read the new message.
“Behind the biggest rock.”
She saw the rock and hurried towards it. Liana let out a blood curdling scream when she saw the battered body behind it.
