Chapter 6 : Signs Of Love | The Real Signs of Love ♡
"What you asked Minako out!?"
"Keep it down dude!"
"You sly dog!"
"My boyfriend is sooo jealous!"
"Mine too! But that side of him is cute!~"
'Wow, love is in the air no?' I sighed, glancing at Kusuo-kun. He seemed extra annoyed again today, sometimes I forget how much he hates love. I don't understand why though, he's explained it to me before but that doesn't help me to understand. With his powers like it is, he can fall in love with someone's true personality right?
"Hey Teruhashi-san! Are you gonna get a boyfriend?" I heard a boy ask Teruhashi-chan, the most beautiful girl in the school. Well more like the world but I'll never admit that out loud, Kusuo-kun has told me what her thoughts were. She's seen as perfect, but those thoughts are less than perfect.
"Ehh? I think it's a little too early for dating! I think we should focused on our studies!" She giggled, making the guys around go 'Offu!'.
I sighed, looking around before noticing eyes looking at Kusuo-kun. Those eyes belong to Yumehara Chiyo. 'Hungry eyes nine o'clock.'
'I already know, (Y/n).' He suddenly made a weird face, before quickly going back to normal blankness. It caught me off guard and I ended up snorting.
"What the heck Saiki-kun?" I asked, trying to hold my giggles. He didn't seem pleased at the result.
'I'll help ya if you're really desperate to get her away from you.' I sighed mentally, seeing him smile slightly. Since he now has his ally helping with the "threat".
Later the two of us were walking in a hallway, most likely to get away from Yumehara-chan. But it seemed she found us from what Kusuo-kun told me by his frown deepening. As we began to go around the corner I see Kusuo-kun somersault over Yumerhara, causing her to bump into me.
"Ah! Are you okay Yumehara-chan?" I asked concerned, thankful that Kusuo-kun kept her from falling on her face. "Here, I'll help ya with those papers."
I could see the look of confusion on her face as I helped her. But she didn't question me and went on her merry way.
Soon we went back to our classroom, when I see Yumehara-chan walk by and drop her handkerchief right next to Kusuo-kun. He looks at me expectantly, causing me to sigh and get up to grab the cloth. "Yumehara-chan?"
She seemed excited before realizing it was me. "You dropped this, here!" I smiled, handing it to her.
This went on for awhile. Anything Yumehara-chan wanted Kusuo-kun to do, I did it instead. Opening doors? Check. Passing a runaway ball to her? Check. Being given cookies? Checkiky check.
School finally ended and I went ahead of Kusuo-kun. I could see Yumehara-chan standing alone. "You forgot an umbrella?" She jumped in surprised when hearing me, but she quickly calmed down and smiled.
"Yeah, I knew it was gonna rain. But I still forgot..."
"It's fine, take mine!" I exclaimed as I handed her my cheap umbrella. She looked at me in surprised yet again.
"No I couldn't! How will you stay dry?"
"Staying dry? I couldn't care less! I love dancing in the rain actually!" I then stepped into the rain, smiling as the droplets hit my face. "See!?"
I laughed, continuing to dance in the heavy rain. I didn't care that I was beginning to soak, all I cared was the moment I was feeling. Suddenly the rain stopped, but I knew it was Kusuo-kun. I looked to see him come my way with his school jacket off.
"Saiki-kun! The rain stopped." I whined, pouting at him knowingly. "And I wanted to dance more..."
'You're gonna catch a cold if you did that.' He responded, putting his coat around me. 'I don't wanna be forced to take care of you again like last time.'
"Really!? Jerk!!" I hit him in the arm as he dragged me home.

"You look like you need an umbrella." A boy said as he held an umbrella out to Chiyo.
"But...the rain has stopped." Chiyo said sadly, looking at the two friends ways ahead.
"Not the rain in your heart." The boy said, "Please, let me be an umbrella for your heart."
'This boy, I think I found my soulmate!'
'That's way too soon.' Kusuo thought to himself. 'But at least she's out of my hair.'
Chiyo then turned to the two ahead, hearing the (h/c) laugh. 'Those two, seem happy.' She thought as she watched Kusuo and (Y/n) walk together. 'Maybe, that's where Saiki-kun's happiness is...'
'Don't think too hard on that.' Kusuo replied mentally. He looked at the smiling (h/c), wrapping herself tight in his school jacket. 'Though I'd hate to admit you aren't far off.'
"Kusuo-kun." (Y/n) whispered, causing the pinkette to turn to her. "Even though it's your fault for stopping the rain, thanks for the jacket."
The smallest of smiles reached his face, he could feel something warming himself up. And he knows it's not his pyrokenesis. 'I don't understand this feeling really, but I don't hate it.'
'I hope Yumehara-chan finds happiness.' (Y/n) thought to Kusuo, turning back to see her walking with another figure. Then another thought that only she heard popped into her mind. 'Just like I have. Even if it'll never go anywhere, I'm fine with just being his best friend.'
'Because no matter what. I'll always love you, Saiki Kusuo.'
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
"I can't believe I thought that!!" I yelled at myself in the mirror. All day I haven't stopped thinking about that one thought from a couple of days ago. I can't help it!
"Why can't I stop? I don't need these feelings!" I yelled once again. 'I only like him in a best friend way! I can't like him romantically!!'
I screamed into my pillow in frustration, 'Why now!? The summer heat must be getting to me! That has to be it! After all me and Kusuo-kun are only friends!'
'I mean....he's not interested in romance at all, not a bit. It hurts to know that...wait it can't hurt! I don't like my best friend like that!' Cue more confused screaming.
I honestly don't know when this battle first started, but I know it's been happening for years. Everytime I think anything more than friendship I shut myself down and yell at myself.
This went on for a few more hours until I suddenly see Kusuo-kun in my room. "How long were you here!? When-!?' He didn't let me finish before he shoved clothes towards me and teleported away. I could see a note, so I lifted it up to read it.
I don't know why your barrier is up but I'm not gonna ask. Let's go to our usual spot, I want some coffee jelly. - Kusuo S.
For the first time today, I laughed. "You're gonna drag me with ya for some coffee jelly?" Another note suddenly appeared, replacing the first one.
Problem? - Kusuo S.
"Nope, that's just typical for you. Kuu-chan!" I said, dragging out the nickname his mother gave him teasingly. Suddenly, something tugged on my hair. "Ow! Seriously!?"
♡~~~♡
We arrived at the usual cafe we hang out at, I still haven't had lowered my mind barrier due to my thoughts swirling still.
Saiki's POV
I still don't understand why she's acting like this. Ever since she helped with Yumehara she's hasn't lowered her anti-psychic barrier at all. Something must've happened. I know I said I wouldn't ask, but I need to get to the bottom of this.
"Here ya go, your usual." The waiter, who was the owner of the cafe actually, said setting down the heaven's treat.
"Thank you!" I heard (Y/n) say before she started to eat her own coffee jelly. "Nothing beats this huh, Saiki-kun?"
I couldn't respond other than nodding, usually I would begin eating but I had a different focus right now. "Huh? You aren't eating, what's up?"
Since there's no way I can respond, all I did was stare at her exceptionally. "Oh...that. Don't worry about that, a lot of things are going through my mind. Would hate to give you a headache venting to ya."
I raised an eyebrow, she seemed to fidget. Wait, why is she blushing? Oh, I see now. It must be....that time already. What a pain, she could've just said so instead of making me worried.
Wait worried? Who said I was worried? I'm just curious as to why she won't let me communicate with her. Well, I got my explanation so I might as well eat.
I could hear (Y/n) giggling. "You're making that cute face again." Why is she so embarrassing? She should really think before saying stuff like that.
"Actually, maybe I should tell you what's on my mind." That came out of nowhere. She doesn't have to- "Truth is...I think I have a crush on someone."
...What?
3rd Person
'I can't believe I told him that much!' (Y/n) yelled at herself mentally. 'Maybe it's because I wanted to see his reaction, but he's just gonna react like he usually does! Nothing but a blank face and not caring!'
'A...crush?' Kusuo thought, eyes widened.
"And I didn't want you to hear me think over it because I don't want you to know who it is." (Y/n) double downed, making up her excuse. "I'm sorry, I guess even I'm not used to those feelings this intense."
Meanwhile, Kusuo's mind was chaotic. Unknown to the both of them, a sad feeling washed over Kusuo. 'I know she's said she wanted a boyfriend but those were only jokes. And now she suddenly loves someone? How come I never noticed? I'm supposed to be her "best friend" and a psychic, yet I never saw this coming. Damn! Why am I overthinking this!?'
"Don't worry about it that much." The (h/c) said smiling. "I'm most likely never gonna confess, don't wanna leave my best friend for some guy!"
Kusuo let the smallest of smiles spread across his face. His eyes definitely showing the care he held for his actual friend. 'You're an idiot.'
The two smiled in their own ways and continued to enjoy the silence, even with their thoughts jumbled. Another warmth feeling spread in their hearts, one that was stronger than that school day. Clearly telling them how they really feel.
Even if they won't admit anything yet, their feelings will only grow from here on out.
After all, they're best friends.
