Chapter 4 : Lovers Fighting! & The First Day of Second Year!
"Saiki-kun! I thought you would wait for me from now on!" I called out to my best friend, who just saved a puppy by lifting the truck that was about to run over it. You see, my best friend is an all powerful psychic.
'You took too long to change your shoes.' He responded blankly, I glared.
"Wait till Kurumi-san hears about this!" I threatened, he only looked at me with his eyebrows slightly furrowed.
'You wouldn't dare.' He responded, I smirked at him challengingly. 'Fine then, no more asking me to get you your favorite dessert or "borrowing" my stuff.'
"What!? But you know I can barely afford that stuff! And you let me borrow that stuff, I returned them eventually!" I exclaimed, trying to find any sign of bluff. Seeing none I immediately hugged his arm. "I'm sorry Saiki-kun! I won't tell your mom, I'll even get you more sweets!"
'That's what I thought. Now let go.' He shoved me off of him and we continued walking.
"Geez, seems like your trying to make me go broke." I pouted, counting the money I had in my wallet.
'Not my fault you owe me so much in sweets.'
"It's the only way I can sway you in my direction!" I punched his arm, sticking my tongue out at him. "You better not be this mean when I come over for dinner."
'Hmm?' He turned to me puzzled, before realizing what I said. 'Mom asked you over again? You should've declined.'
"We both know it's hard to decline to your mom, especially when she's so insistent." He nodded at my statement before asking me if this meant I was gonna be alone at home again. "Yep, Mom is taking care of my pregnant aunt back in America. And Dad has to work overnight this week."
Some people may think this was sad and such, but I found this normal. Ever since moving to Japan, my parents had been busy with various things. This happened so often that when the Saiki family found out I was usually the only one living in my house, the Saiki household basically became my second home. So not only did I get to not live at an empty home sometimes, I got to get closer to Kusuo-kun!
As we arrived at our houses, I see Kusuo-kun's father, Kuniharu-san, sitting outside the house. When he finally noticed us he jumped up standing. "Welcome home Kusuo-kun! You took your sweet time didn't you? Oh hello (Y/n)-chan!"
"Hello Kuniharu-san! What are you doing outside?" I asked.
"Ah, well...It's complicated." He rubbed the back of his neck while answering me.
'It's not, he got locked out again.' Kusuo-kun explained, unlocking the door with his powers. 'Come on in (Y/n), I can tell this night will be a pain.'
"Well thank you for having me!" I smiled as I walked beside my best friend, taking off my shoes before putting on the (f/c) slippers they specifically got for me. I did mention this was practically my second home, the only difference is I didn't have a room here.
"You know Kusuo, with those powers of yours. Don't you think there's a better use for it?" Kuniharu-san asked, his face having a evil look on it.
'I already heard you thoughts, just what are you thinking in front of your child?' Kusuo-kun responded, looking annoyed at his father like usual.
"Kuu-chan, you home? Is (N/n)-chan with you?" I hear Kusuo-kun's mother, Kurumi-san, call out. Kuniharu-san quickly left towards the women's voice.
'Here we go again.'
"How much you willing to bet it will escalate to the table being thrown? I'd say, a coffee jelly." I sighed, Kusuo-kun already told me what was going on. He even told what they actually think, because I at first was worried over it. But now even I get annoyed over this pointless fight.
"You locked me out again, dammit!" Kuniharu-san yelled at Kurumi-san, who only ignored him and went to greet us.
"Welcom home Kuu-chan! And welcome back (N/n)-chan!" Kurumi-san greeted us. "Tonight's dinner is tonkatsu!"
"Hey don't ignore me!" Kuniharu-san yelled. "Moreover, I thought tonight is steak night!?"
"Oh? I'm sorry, I'm sure you'll like what I prepared for you."
'It's a shoe isn't it?' I asked Kusuo-kun in my head.
'Yep.'
"You two have some time to hang out before dinner, why don't you go to Kuu-chan's room?" Kurumi-san said, she had seemed to ask but it was more like a suggestion. Kusuo-kun got the picture and dragged me to his room.
Once we got there I immediately sat on his bed, going through my bag to grab my pain killers. Once I got them I took them with my small bottle of water. "Geez, what happened between them? Why are they going through this pointless fight?"
'Hell if I know. Love is so complicated, it doesn't make sense to me.' He sighed, placing his bag on his desk before sitting in his chair. 'I don't understand why people fall in love.'
"Don't say that! Just because you're a psychic doesn't mean there won't be a girl that steals your heart!" I exclaimed, jumping up to hug him. "I mean, if I was able to break through that thick wall of yours to become friends. Then obviously there's a girl somewhere that'll make your heart pound!"
'Doubt that (Y/n).'
I opened my mouth to respond, but Kurumi-san opened the door and called for us to dinner. We got to the table with Kurumi-san saying, "Be sure to eat a lot!"
"Hey!" Kuniharu-san yelled. "Hey! Hey! Hey! This is a shoe! No one would eat this!"
"There are seconds if you like (Y/n)-chan." Kurumi-san ignored her husband at first before addressing him. "You too hun."
"I bet it's just the other shoe!" He was halfway correct when Kurumi-san brought out 'seconds' that was for her husband. "That's not even from the same pair! And you're overusing the ingredients aren't you!?"
Me and Kusuo-kun ignored the fight that was going on and finished our dinners. Though I will admit it's terrifying when Kurumi-san gets angry, as she is just now.
"That's it, we're taking this outside!" She yelled, attempting to kick out her husband. As she was basically trying to kill him, Kusuo was eating dessert which was coffee jelly.
"Coffee jelly? Never had that before? Is it good?" He only nodded and smiled as he ate the treat. "Of course you'd make that cute face."
He glared at me, causing me to laugh. "Don't look at me like that! Anyone would find you cute when you eat like that!" He just continued to glare at me, before I suddenly see another coffee jelly in front of me. "Oh 'Kuu-chan'! You shouldn't have!"
I had grabbed a spoon and began eating, but Kuniharu-san had to interrupt me eating a delicious treat. "Don't just eat there you two! Help me!!" He bumped into my back, causing me to drop all of my coffee jelly.
Luckily Kusuo-kun caught it all, with his mouth. He had dropped down to the ground in a matter of seconds just to save the dessert. "You're really that hellbent on eating that jelly!?" His father exclaimed.
"We don't have time for that!" He then pointed to his wife, who by now had a demon face. "Look at your mother, she's turned into a demon!"
Kurumi-san then grabbed the table and lifted it over her head, attempting to throw it at her husband. Luckily Kusuo-kun used his psychic powers to keep the table and it's contents in midair.
"Kuu-chan! You're taking your father's side!? I want nothing to do with you two!" Kurumi-san exclaimed, obviously lying about her true feelings.
'Kusuo-kun, do something. This fight is gonna go too far and they'll actually divorce.' I pleaded, he didn't show any sign of response until I was able to hear his parents thoughts.
It took a minute for the couple to realize what Kusuo-kun had done. They both got red in the face and begged their son to not have their true feelings broadcasted. Eventually they forgave each other and showed their true feelings.
I could see Kusuo-kun's small smile, which made me happy for the Saiki family. I then was able to overhear the couple talk about what caused it, this was over coffee jelly?
"Ah! That's right!" She snatched the coffee jelly Kusuo-kun was about to eat. Handing it to her husband. "I bought some more today!"
The two proceeded to share the dessert, before the next second all the window panels in the house shattered.
'Really Kusuo-kun? Really?'
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
"Ah! Kusuo-kun! You waited for me after all!" I smiled, grabbing the bento box my best friend was handing me. "Oh? Kurumi-san made me a bento too? She didn't have to do that! I made one for myself...."
'It's probably burnt as hell, the only thing you can make is desserts.' Kusuo-kun retorted, already walking towards school. 'Come on, don't want to stick out and be late.'
"Ah! Alright, don't leave me behind!"
We eventually made it to school and were standing next to each other during the opening ceremony. 'I can't believe we're already in second year!'
'Can you not shout? Everyone else's thoughts are already loud enough.'
'Oh hush you! Can you blame me for being excited? We only have two more years before we graduate! I hope to get a boyfriend this year though!' I could see Kusuo-kun's frown worsen, I smirked. 'Aww! Is Kusuo-kun jealous of my future boyfriend already? Don't worry! No guy will make me stop being friends with you!'
'I feel sorry for the poor guy, he's going to have to deal with your annoying voi-' Kusuo-kun stopped as his eyes were covered by big hands.
"Yo buddies!" I hear a familiar voice greeted, it was Nendou-kun.
"Nendou-kun! So good to see you again!"
"Yeah! Maybe after this we can get some ramen!" He offered. But soon someone near us collapsed all of a sudden. "Oh!? What's wrong!?"
Nendou-kun then proceeded to try to save the unconscious student by giving mouth-to-mouth. A teacher told him to take the student to the nurse's office, Kusuo-kun having to go as well since the teacher doesn't trust Nendou-kun.
"Sir, I know first aid. I can help out if need be." I announced to the teacher, he agreed and told me to go. I quickly followed the two guys carrying the unconscious student, who I realized was Takahashi, to the infirmary.
When we arrived I pushed past the boys to grab one of the kits the nurse keeps around. The only reason I knew where things were was because I always helped the nurse out with various things, practically becoming the student nurse. Of course, this only made the "Mother of PK" nickname more prevalent to my schoolmates.
"The nurse doesn't seem to be here...Nendou-kun place Takahashi-kun on one of the beds." He nodded before said green haired boy pushed Nendou-kun away.
"Quit messing around!" He yelled, glaring at the big guy. "What the hell was that CPR stuff about!? You wanna kill me!?"
"Wait so you're fine?" Nendou-kun asked, confused.
"I faked it, you moron!" Takahashi-kun yelled before puking into the sink behind him. "So gross, now everyone is gonna think we're in love."
"I don't think anyone is gonna think that, Takahashi-kun." I replied, grabbing a towel to soak and hand to the green haired boy. "Though I'm disappointed that you faked illness just to skip school."
What I had said seemed to make him realized something. He then suddenly pinned me up against the wall behind me. "Listen here, (L/n). You aren't gonna tell anyone about this! That goes for you too Saiki!" He then got close to my face, making me smell his vomit breath. "If you do, I might have to hurt ya."
Suddenly Kusuo-kun put his hand on Takahashi-kun's shoulder, forcing him to get away from me. "Tch! Just don't say anything ya hear me!?" Takahashi-kun then walked away, grumbling about vomiting again.
'You okay?' Kusuo-kun asked.
"Yeah, never better. I wasn't worried really, didn't expect that though." I muttered, hearing something crack.
"Did I just hear you faked illness!?" Matsuzaki-sensei. The boys PE teacher, he looked pissed. "Did you pretend to be sick to skip class!?"
"No Sir! It was Nendou!" Takahashi-kun exclaimed in fright, before faking into a sob. "He forced me to pretend to be sick so he could skip school!"
"What!? Nedou is this true!?" Matsuzaki-sensei then realized me and Kusuo-kun were there. "Eh? Saiki? (L/n)?"
"Takahashi! Is Saiki his accomplice?" Matsuzaki-sensei asked, pointing at the pink haired boy. Takahashi-kun looked confused before faking a sob again. "Yeah! They managed to trick (L/n)-chan too! When she found out they threatened her!"
"Is this true (L/n)!?"
"No! Nendou-kun and Saiki-kun are my friends! They would never!"
"Come on (L/n)-chan! You say that about everyone! You're too nice!" Takahashi-kun yelled at me.
"Sensei please listen to me! Takahashi pretended to be sick all on his own!"
"Pretending to be sick? What are you talking about buddy?" Nendou-kun asked. "Didn't you hear him? He's got faking illness."
We stood there in silence, three of us thinking how dumb Nendou-kun is. "Faking Illness? I've never heard of-wait a minute!" Matsuzaki-sensei then thought for a moment before uttering, "Oh, Feigning Disease!"
"Sensei that diseass doesn't exist!" As Takahashi-kun said this, Kusuo-kun elbowed me and pointed to a thermometer.
"Oh good idea." I whispered, going to grab the device. "But Takahashi-kun, Feigning Disease is real! Let's take your temperature to make sure, I heard an extremely high fever means you most likely have it!"
After waiting for the results, Matsuzaki-sensei seemed to almost have a heart attack and called 119 for an ambulance. They rushed him to the vehicle, leaving just me and Kusuo-kun.
"Nice going Kusuo-kun! But I can't believe that guy! Trying to frame you and Nendou-kun! He's no better than his relative!" I sighed, sitting down on one of the beds.
Kusuo-kun grabbed the thermometer, seeing the tip was melted. He used his pyrokinesis to destroy the device, not realizing Nendou-kun was behind him. "Buddy?"
'Oh dear.'
"You, have a really high fever too!?"
Kusuo-kun was then rushed to the hospital, with me following because I was his best friend. Geez, for being an all powerful psychic, this guy can be an idiot sometimes. But that's what I love about him!
