Chapter 11: Toritsuka-kun's First Day! | Helping Hairo Turns Bad

"Oh, so that's what it was about. I still believed you shouldn't have gotten nosy though." I say after Kusuo-kun explained to me what he and Kaidou-kun found out. Turns out that day had been the day Nendou-kun's dad died, bummer. When he asked what I did all I told him was that I went to the arcade and left for home. I didn't tell him about Toritsuka-kun, figuring he already knew about the transfer student.

"Hey did you hear about the new transfer student?" I overhear my classmates talking about Toritsuka-kun. Suddenly Kusuo-kun stands up and bolts to the next class over, I followed him of course. He ends up dragging the poor spiritualist to the bathroom.

I waited outside until the two walk out. "Hey Toritsuka-kun! How has your day been going?" I could see him shiver in fear. "Saiki-kun! Did you threaten him!?"

'Wait you knew about him?'

"Yeah, I ran into him on the way home yesterday!" He looked at the spiritualist, who coward in fear.

"I didn't tell her about that! Even her guardian spirit wouldn't let me say anything! And I didn't do anything I swear! I knew you would kill me if I did!" I looked at the two in confusion, wondering what they were talking about.

'Either way, just don't tell anyone about you know what.'

"Alright alright!" Kusuo-kun glare stays, only leaving when I flick his forehead.

"Enough bullying the poor boy." I said, leaning on Kusuo-kun's side.

"But that stuff is hard to hide, psychic powers usually stand out." Toritsuka-kun said, apparently choosing not to comment on me leaning on the pinkette.

'Exactly, so I would prefer you not gaining attention yourself.'

"But my powers aren't as bad as yours! You can read minds and see girls' bodies!"

"Execpt mine, don't forget." I pointed out, stretching my arms up. "Remember I have powers too ya know."

"Wait so does that mean-"

'Watch it.'

"Yessir!"

'Anyway. You don't have powers, you have anti powers.'

"Same thing ya dip!" I huffed, slapping Kusuo-kun's arm.

"As I was saying, you can do that stuff. Wait, that means you get to see all the girls na-" Toritsuka-kun then paused, seeing Teruhashi-chan pass by. When she left, Toritsuka-kun had a strange face. "Wha-Who's that girl!?"

'That's Teruhashi, she walked by here for no reason. Be grateful.' I rolled my eyes, an ugly feeling wash over me. I knew he didn't fall for her like others, but that didn't stop the feeling from appearing. I could feel a pair of eyes glance at me, knowing it was Kusuo-kun I thought of something else to keep my mind off of Teruhashi-chan.

"You get to look at her body too!? You damn psychic!" Toritsuka-kun exclaimed, clenching his fists.

'Sooo....he's a pervert. Weird, he seemed nice when I first met him.'

"Saiki-san, please just this once let me punch you!"

'How about no.'

"That's unfair! Do you plan to just enjoy looking at girl's bodies to yourself!?"

'Don't say it like that, do you think I ennoy it?'

"You have everything! Why are you so favoritized?"

'Go complain to the original author.'

Then suddenly a massive crowd of girls came flooding in, asking about guardian spirits. While he listed girls' spirits, I talked with Kusuo-kun.

"So Saiki-kun, did Toritsuka-kun ever tell you who your guardian is? I'm honestly curious, it has to be some kind of powerful person right? Only a demigod could handle you." I giggled, thinking of a demigod spirit trying to protect an all powerful psychic.

'Wasn't at all curious, so I didn't ask.' I pouted at his bland response.

"You're so boring!"

~~~~~~
"Man! Today was a good day~" Toritsuka-kun said happily.
"Hey, what's my guardian spirit?" Nendou-kun asked. All day he's been following us and asking, only to be ignored. He kept repeating himself all day, it's starting to become annoying.
"Um Toritsuka-kun-"
"Excuse me for a moment." He then turns to Nendou-kun. "Would you shut up!? You're so noisy! I thought I told you to stop following me around!"
'What?'
"Can't you at least shut up when I'm talking to people!?" The spiritualist yelled, swinging his bag at the tall goof. He seemed to pause when seeing the bag hit, grabbed the taller teen by the face, and jumped in realization. "Wha-!? You're not a ghost!?"
"Oh?"
"But you two ignored him like he wasn't there!" He pointed at us.
'I usually ignore him.'
"I thought you were being rude and ignoring him on purpose." I explained.
"What? Oh now I see the old woman!"
"What old women!? The hell's goin' on!?"
~~~~~

"Saiki-san, there's something I would like you to see." Toritsuka-kun said. He then lead us to where he lives. "Use your psychometry on me, you'll understand."

Kusuo-kun takes his thin gloves off and hands it to me before placing his hand on Toritsuka-kun's shoulder. His eye's widen a fraction.

"I'd like you to meet, my guardian spirit. Not very guardian like huh?"

'...you do have it rough.'

~~~~~~~~
Saiki's POV
"Hey Kusuo-kun, wanna know what my guardian spirit is? Toritsuka-kun told me when we first met!" (Y/n) me asked as we headed home.
'No thanks, not interested in that stuff.'
"What? Come on! You really aren't interested? But she's really cool!" She giggled. "Plus I really wanna know what yours is!"
If only you knew...
~~~~~~~~~~

'If you talk, you die.'

"Y-yes..." Well now that that's done, I should get back to (Y/n) "Ah! He-hey wait a minute!"

'What do you want now?'

"Um...well that girl-"

'Is off limits you perv.'

"Geez man! I was just gonna tell you something important!"

'Spit it out then, if it's-'

"It's not anything pervy I swear! I was just gonna tell you about both your spirit and her's-"

'Not interested.'

"Let me finish!" Good grief, why is he so persistent on telling something that has no effect on me? "Look, your spirit and hers, they were lovers when alive."

'What is that supposed to mean?'

"Well, usually spirits who were lovers never meet. It might not mean something, but most of the time spirits who get along make the people their guarding attract to each other. I'm not fully sure why or how, but that's what happens."

'And what does that have to do with me and (Y/n)?' I swear if he says I what I think-

"It could possibly mean that you and (L/n)-chan...are fated."

...what a bunch of nonsense

"Hey man where are you going!? This is important, it means something!"

'Highly doubt that, we're friends. I have no interest in ,nor do I understand, love.'

"That's not what-hey! Don't just walk away from me!"

~~~~~~~~~~
"Come on slow poke!" Hm? Guess I was thinking too much. "Last one home eats the other's coffee jelly!"
'Ha, say goodbye to your coffee jelly then.'
...fate huh, like that actually exist.
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~

"Ah! Saiki-kun! (L/n)-chan! Think you two can help me?"

'No-'

"Sure Hairo-kun! We'd be happy to help!" I interrupted the psychic.

"Great! This way!" He lead us to an empty classroom, explaining what we had to do. "So the sports festival is coming up soon right? Me and Kudou-kun have been working on it, but he turned up sick today so I need your help."

"Ah I see! I may not be the best at handywork but I'll try my best!"

"Great! It's almost complete actually, we just need to connect the pillars and arch."

'What a pain.' I nudged Kusuo-kun with my elbow.

'Be nice!'

Hairo-kun opened up the door to reveal the festival entrance, with one pillar broken into pieces.

"'...'" All three of us just stared at the broken peices, before Hairo-kun suddenly let out a very loud yell.

"Come on pillar! You were just standing upright yesterday! Get up!" The red hair male yelled at the broken wood.

'This can't be fixed by three people.' Kusuo-kun said. 'Probably not even with psychic powers.'

He grabbed my arm and started to drag me out the door. 'Come on, this is a waste of time.'

"Hold on!" Hairo-kun called us. "We can still fix this if we give it our all! If we work fast we can finish before the last train!"

'Give me a break.' I elbowed the pinkette.

~~~~~~~
"Man this is really hard!"
"Don't give up (L/n)-chan! You got this!" Hairo-kun encouraged me as he worked at a rapid pace.
"How does he even do that?" I whispered in amazement. "It's like he has an unlimited supply of energy!"
I heard a small snap and turned to see Kusuo-kun with a broken hammer. I rolled my eyes and smiled, it's funny that he can't even use a hammer.
"No way! We're out of wood!"
"Oh that's too bad!" I responded. "We'll just get some tomor-"
"Oh don't worry! I'll buy some right now! I'll be fast!" Hairo-kun got up and rushed to the door. "I leave the repairs to you two!! Never give up!!"
"...He sure doesn't give up huh?" I chuckled, sitting down next to Kusuo-kun. "Wish I had that amount of enthusiasm and energy."
'What a pain.' I glared at the psychic.
"Everything's a pain to you. What's with you? You've been in a mood ever since Toritsuka-kun transferred last week." I grumbled. "Is everything okay?"
'None of your business.' I huffed, standing up and going back to my work.
"Fine then, Mr. Grumpy. Sorry for being concerned about my best friend who I care for deeply. I'll just leave you alone." I grumbled, taking my hammer and trying, key word trying, to work on the pillar. But my thoughts were filled on Kusuo-kun's attitude, to the point I didn't realized I hit my hand with the hammer.
"Ow!" I clutched my hand, realizing now I had been using full force in hitting with the hammer due to my own slowly rising anger over the psychic. "Damn, that's gonna hurt for the rest of the day."
I suddenly feel being pushed back, seeing Kusuo-kun move in front me. "Oi! What do you-"
Soon he moved back to where he originally was and sat down, grabbing a book from his bag. I looked to see he had finished what I was doing. "Hey! Don't do my work-"
'Do you really think you would be able to finish with that hand in pain? Besides, I doubt you actually would want to work this late after school.' He interrupted me.
"If it's to help a friend, of course I would!" I went to grab the hammer, but it flys out of my reach. "Oi!"
I try to reach a saw blade, it flys away. Tries to grab nails, those too. Everything I try to grab something, Kusuo-kun just uses his powers to take it away before I could get it.
"Would you just stop!?" I yelled at him, starting to get annoyed at the pinkette. He doesn't respond, not even looking at me before reopening his book.
"You know what? I'm done, you've been such an ass to me for the past week! I know you don't tell me everything that goes on in your brain, but you at least give me the bare minimum so I could help or understand!" I screamed. "But no! Instead you're keeping me in the dark about something! I'm your best friend Kusuo!"
He doesn't respond, due to my rage I didn't realize his eyes were slightly widened.
"You don't have to tell me everything, but you can't keep your best friend in the dark like this. It makes me worried, and I want to help you...Are you trying to push my away?"
At no response I sigh, turning away from the psychic.
"Fine! If you wanna be a distant ass then by all means! I'm going home, tell Hairo-kun something came up." I left, slamming the door.
I rushed home, not even bothering to take my shoes off and jump onto my bed. I grabbed my pillow and screamed into it. All these feelings, sadness, anger, and more I can't pinpoint.
'Why?' I thought, trying not to let the tears fall. 'I shouldn't have yelled at him. I know how he is, he's probably going through something I couldn't fathom because of his powers. But...that doesn't mean he had to be such an ass...'
'Maybe some space will help the both of us...' I nodded to myself. 'Yeah...Let him handle whatever it is that's bothering him.'
"That settles it, for as long as it takes. I'll give him some space."
