Heaven's Call
Elise
"Michael, explain! What got me into this situation?!" I asked him, but even after two minutes of thinking, he had not made up his mind. It was as if he did not want to drag me into this mess. We were seated on a bench in the park, covered by the trees that provided us shade.
"Fine... But promise me, you will not go insane from the how dark this matter is... it's dark... really dark." I nodded frantically, accepting the terms.
"The universe is split up into Heaven, Earth, and Hell, as you should know from Earth's current knowledge. I'll explain Heaven first."
"Heaven is split up into seven divisions, and I am the Captain of the seventh. The first division Captain rules over everyone, and his name is Wayne." He flinched a bit at Wayne's name but continued. Does Wayne have anything special to do with me?
"In Hell, it's split in two. One side is for human sinners... but there is one side hiding to revolt upon, snatch Hell away from its guardian... Death, and probably aspire to dominate Earth, as well as destroying Heaven. Those, are the Fallen. They kill others who held power in Hell to use them for their evil deeds. The Fallen themselves are the mythical horrors humans know about. However, the Fallen back then have never mastered the ability to transport their own kind from Hell into the human world... but now they have. It's now harder for this fight to end, especially when we think there's a Leader on the rise, and he is targeting you to be his successor or something. From the battle with Ash, and what he has told you, we found out his name is Xandor. He is a threat... and he must be held away from you...
"Because, if you don't, you will become a servant of Darkness, and I don't know what fate awaits you." Michael coughed. I realised this was a bad topic to talk about, but I couldn't handle the severity of this. Since I witnessed a Fallen's strength, my own strength... is not enough.
"And up till now, has anyone seen a Fallen, before my encounter?"
"There were encounters before, but every Protector that faced them, they disappeared, and no one heard from them ever since. However, we do eliminate some Fallen from time to time, and they do provide us invaluable information on how to deal with them."
"Maybe I can help, I can see them now. After all, they are after me, aren't they?" I tried to look brave, less weak.
"You need to be taught some defensive skills first, Elise. You can't expect to face them head-on without defending yourself." And of course, Michael had to make me feel stupid, when in fact, I was the one who was an idiot to begin with.
I can't let myself die like that. Neither can I bear to see Michael possibly die for me when I can't defend myself.
"Michael, take me in as your apprentice!"
"Apprentice?" Confused, he bent down so we were eye to eye. It felt like he was seeing through my soul.
"I see. You're already accepted." He smiled. After watching all his videos, seeing his temperament, behaviour, he used to be so shy... now he's speaking without hesitation... and he was so brave facing the Fallen back then.
And, as I sat alongside him, I wondered why he never saw my love for him... and as I thought about it further, I felt the fatigue from earlier take effect.
* * *
"Hey, how are you? You slept for a while back there. I assume this is your house?" I woke up to see my display cabinet full of my model kit collection. Definitely my house, no doubt.
"Yeah. How did you know where my house is, and get in unnoticed? Even if you came in through the window, if my family hears anything from my room, something would go wrong." He gave a thumbs up, and as my family passed through my bedroom, they never looked inside.
"They can't see us now." He smiled. I sat up on my bed and leaned back. Feeling pain from the past, I wished to leave home.
"Hey, you can't get up yet. Your..." A stinging pain went up my body and I collapsed to the floor.
"I cleansed you and may have probably... imbued some power into your body in the process. Please lie back on your bed and rest. The school won't be important now; what you need is to beef up your fighting skills. With your discovery, the Fallen will start plotting to take you away, you understand?" He laid me back down on the bed, and I stared into the eyes of my model kits, seemingly full of life, yet not so...
"Hey, what did you just do?!" Michael was flabbergasted as I saw two mobile suits in front of me, on my bed. They went outside on their own and they grew in size.
Oh, holy shit.
"Let me go out, please." I quickly left the bed, although in much pain, and saw a tall mobile suit... to believe I built that as a plastic model...
"You just made something come to life... even I never saw this power before."
I must be dreaming...
"She's special, Michael." A deep voice interrupted our conversation.
"Varus, you don't need to barge in like that. How are you here today? Didn't Wayne assign a mission to you?" The masked man who Michael said was Varus, shook his head and sat down looking at the real-life plastic model.
"She summoned that?" I nodded in response but I knew he wasn't asking me.
"You know, you're like Xavier. A whole lot." Michael shot him a death glare and he instantly kept his mouth shut.
"However, it's true. Xavier can bring non-living things to life, even the dead. How he disappeared though, is really unknown. He has many other techniques up his sleeve that he has never shown before... who knows? Michael, you shouldn't be keeping this from her." Varus shrugged.
Why, or what is Michael hiding from me? Why is he hiding this from me? Who exactly is Xavier?
He doesn't seem keen on revealing it to me yet, I'll play along then.
"So... when are you guys gonna bring me like up there? See the Heavens?" Both of them shrugged, and I knew my meeting wasn't by their own jurisdiction.
"Oh well. Can I fly it?" I ran out and climbed up the mobile suit from the tree beside it. Michael and Varus both stopped me.
"You know, you could scare people with such a gigantic machine, and hey, don't forget the military. They would consider it some unknown machine and consider it hostile even if you do reply to them." Michael warned.
"Oh well, don't you guys have some invisibility cloaks or something? I don't know. I have a little experience on how to communicate with Air Traffic Control... Nevermind, guess I'll keep it. Any way to shrink it back?" I asked the question myself, yet I imagined my model shrinking, and there it was, just a small plastic model.
"Holy shit." The hell I just did? I just imagined it, it can't be real, right?
What in the hell is happening to my life?
"We really need to bring her to Wayne, Michael," Varus interjected my train of thoughts yet again.
"Do you think he'd be pleasantly surprised? She may be...." What? Who is Wayne?
"Who's Wayne?" I stop the little discussion.
"The Leader of the Protectors. Guardians of Heaven. He's very much a respected figure." Michael answers calmly.
"We'll bring you to Wayne, but be mindful of your words. He's very critical, and he's so fast he can kill you in milliseconds if he decides to." Varus now informed me.
"Sounds like The Red Comet....." I think I'm getting hyped up.
"Varus... you obviously don't know when to stop talking, but I'll forgive you this time. We have to bring her sooner or later... Elise, I'm sorry I tried to hide things from you... but we have reasons, and Varus is most likely the one to reveal them over time. When the right time comes, I will tell you whatever I can-"
"She does not need to go to Heaven and look for me, Michael. I watched your conversation from above. She is very interesting." Another one? He emitted a bright glow, that it hurt my eyes.
"Milord." Michael and Varus both greeted the figure. Well, a leader would be called this way, so he was definitely Wayne.
"At ease. Hi, Elise. I see you are really worth to be protected by Michael and Varus." Wayne snapped his fingers, and we were no longer in my room.
I was in a world of clouds, and angels.
"Welcome to Heaven." Actual Heaven? Amazing! It was so vibrant, full of life... and almost everyone was socialising so happily!
Unlike Earth...
"They do not know the risk of the new Fallen uprising, that's why they are still happily chatting away. If they knew about the Fallen returning, they would have hidden in their homes. The vibrant city you see here will be no longer vibrant, but dull... and dark." Everyone suddenly turned their heads, and they saw me. Everyone moved back as if afraid of something around me, or...
Were they backing away from me?
"At ease, everyone. She is no enemy." Everyone stood still and stopped. Some let out sighs of relief and some acknowledged Wayne. Life came back to the city soon after and we made our way. Varus escorted us to what I guess was Wayne's palace.
And I thought it would be an ordinary castle.
"Everyone, please do not be alarmed, I have brought back the person who we need to protect." People that looked like scientists rushed over to me and started examining me.
"What is up with me? Why-" While they crowded around me, I felt a grin from a person behind me.
And in an instant, I felt my surroundings become a very eerie place.
"It's time I had my revenge." Ash?!
"Elise!" Everyone's eyes were fixated on me and Ash, especially Michael's. I knew he was worried.
"Ash! You... you're not supposed to be here!"
"It is now Lex, Elise, and thank you for letting me in, Wayne. Your guards are really good workers." Wayne was held by the royal guards, whose eyes were now as dark as Lex's.
"Michael... I give you permission..." Michael sprang into action.
"Release!" The knight armour appeared, but it seemed more sleek, more appealing to a singer.
"Let me rock you away." His mouth opened, and out came a scream that shattered glass and blew off Lex and his minions. It felt like Moonwalker all over again, and I was experiencing it live.
"That was fast," Michael winked at me and gave a thumbs up.
"You think you could scream me away, Protector?" Lex took me hostage yet again, and he breathed something in my face as if altering my consciousness. My brain was registering everything at a super fast rate after that, that I can't even keep up. However, I see Michael, Wayne and Varus passing me in a blur, and Michael holding me...
There is no such thing as Light... there is only the Darkness.
Shut.. up... I lost consciousness immediately after I resisted long enough. I felt useless, unable to assist Michael and his allies.
I felt like a burden. Someone that will need to rely on them forever.
~Author's Note~
Eh well.... Elise is starting to feel like she's a curse, ain't she? Well, it's only the beginning of many incidents to come. What is Ash doing, reappearing? Why is his name Lex, and why did he cover up his identity? What did he do to Elise, to make her lose consciousness? And why are scientists reacting to Elise so strangely, like how the citizens of Heaven did? There's a lot of mysteries, and I'm sure you're waiting to read the next chapter to find out. However, I gotta break it to ya, its not gonna be revealed so easily, and at the rate I'm publishing chapters, I am afraid I may not give you the best reading experience. Bear with me, and thank you for reading! Have a drink (of your choice, its on me, but virtually :) )
