17 | Savior

~I was meant to save people. Not kill them. I might have killed, but I will now find my fight.~

Savior

"How dare you, Taylor!" Xandor lashed at me.

"Shut up, Xandor. You enabled it. I must use it well, don't you think?"

"If you insist, come at me, halfbreed." He throws a threat back. I lunged forward, but I exchanged blows with the brothers instead.

"No harm shall befall our Lord," They say simultaneously. It was a competition of strength and endurance as our palms were facing each other in a battle of inner energy, myself versus the brothers. The brothers pushed their palms further, making me slide back, but I sent the power of Fallen and Protectors combined in both my palms, creating a force so great they flew back from the sheer power and hit the marble walls, making dents and craters.

"The rest, except for you, should be cannon fodder. It's useless to create Fallen when they can't compete with me." I half-bragged. Suddenly, I felt a searing pain in my heart.

"Of course they can't, but I gave them a little extra boost. How's fire mixed with poison?" His voice was just monotone, while I sank to the floor, my aura diminishing, my energy draining.

"You just don't play fair, do you?" I grunted.

"I never do. I can predict this conversation will come again." Xandor replied, hands relaxed behind his back, his cloak.

"I never really gave a shit. Kill me... You have attained your goal." Xandor speed-walked to me, caressing my face.

"I could never bear to do that. Moreover... I think you want to see someone." Who was missing right here... Helena, and Weiss. The only person I would think of... now...

"What... what have you done to Weiss?!"

"Nothing, really. All I did was let him restart afresh."

"Afresh? By that context, you're not fair to let him naturally do that, you wiped him?"

"Xandor, you should have remained in Hell!" Michael cried. Xandor shot a dead glare at Michael, but his gaze quickly returned to me.

"Since you guessed who it is, how about you meet him?" A black-armoured figure sauntered out from the troop of soldiers again, where they all bowed. His black helmet was different from the old chrome mask I used to see his weak self within.

(Veil's new appearance. It used to be a normal black Fallen robe with hood and cloak, with just a chrome faceless mask. The image does not belong to me, I'm using it for the purpose of illustration only.)

"Greetings, Lord Xandor. I hear you summoned me." My eyes were brimming with tears. Is this what Weiss has become? His mask split to reveal the face beneath, and his eyes, letting me see into his soul, show me he was in a distant, faraway place. He was no longer who he was.

"Her name is Elise. She's the halfbreed we all talked about. Just look at her." Weiss seemed to morph into the many types of Fallen showing their desire and lust towards me in the sense that they like... me?

"Her power is immense..." His mask moved back into position, and I saw nothing but the slits for his eyes.

"Indeed, Veil. But we need to finish the group of people that are accompanying her. Three are Protectors, one is our sister, talked into betraying us - married to a Protector. Maybe save the Protectors' ringleader. I will settle him myself." Veil bowed in agreement, and proceeded to the imprisoned members, my family.

My memories instantly flashbacked to the happy times with Michael and my family. I'm the one who could save them. I am kneeling here, while they sacrificed so much for me. I couldn't summon my power. The poison was killing my body.

But what if I merged it, made it part of me? If only I had a way to control it. I went into the deepest depths of the poison, wondering what exactly was it.

Veil shot a look at me, of which I assumed to be a face of confusion. But he was so different.

"Why look at me, halfbreed? Asking for the antidote?" He sneered.

"Go to hell." With my Fallen hand, obviously basking in power absorbing the poison, I ripped off my mask, removing my pain. I turned into the monster the Fallen so wanted to see, and they all became defensive. They didn't know I could be fully Fallen.

"You want this, right? Isn't that what you so desired to see, for the past few days?" I was directing this at Xandor, who seemed to just stand in place, as calm as he first saw us.

"You are still forcing yourself. You won't achieve the true powers of who you are that way." He stepped forward, pushing Mira, Lex, and the brothers away.

"Why don't we have a little spar, little halfbreed girl? Veil, proceed with the killing." I turned my head back, desperate to save them, but Veil pulled out Michael before heading to kill Varus and my parents.

"So you're the Protector assigned to her, huh? Why do you protect if the protected has to protect you? Aren't you considered an ultimate failure?" He mocked.

"Not when the other party doesn't play fair. Lay out your cards, young man. We will see soon enough." The black leather spots on Michael's skin seemed to grow and expand.

"You... you're crazy!" Veil instantly reacted, backing away. Michael's body burned up like an inferno, his eyes burning with the orange flame.

"It seems I can't keep this back either." Michael's voice was vastly different, a hollow, low voice. He made a crater on the floor with every step, holding onto Veil's neck, sending gushes of heat and flame throughout his body.

"I don't just have a Knight form, I have an Elemental power too. Do you think I'm that weak?" There were Elementals in the Protector and Fallen universe?

Then since the poison merged with my Fallen form, is my Elemental form poison? I asked myself questions about this new discovery so much, I was so lost in my own mind, that I completely forgot I was fighting.

"Gosh, can't believe I stood here thinking. Thank God you're fair enough not to start, Xandor." I didn't even make a signal for starters, and I started using my new form to my advantage, of course, not making that much of a breakthrough.

I cannot match Xandor, not yet. The best I can do is fend him off. Scare him. I don't have the endurance, the stamina, the power to rage and fight on, unlike the hatred, the desire he has.

"You let all of us leave, we'll give you your world. Leave us in peace. You don't need me. Send someone to keep tabs on us, and we will fight to the death. Play fair, Xandor."

"Did I ever agree to your request?" He cackled, as the brothers took the hit.

"You piece of scum!" I roared in anger, as I morphed back to my human form, poking my fingers over random acupuncture points on their chests like in the wuxia shows, hoping that it would stop them from moving. I quickly pulled the brothers away as I found a secluded place, where there was no one, and camouflaged them after I saw that they fell unconscious. I returned to my imprisoned family, freeing them so that they could escape with the brothers. Lastly, I returned to Michael's side, as I unleashed the beast in me again, standing back-to-back with him.

"Didn't know we would push ourselves to the limit like this." I joked.

"Ah well, I didn't expect that I would use this form either. Everyone ran away once I used Knight form." Michael laughed. We started charging in the direction we faced and ran our powers through the Fallen soldiers.

In less than a minute, what was left was Veil, Xandor, and the vampire couple. We had brought their numbers down greatly.

"What you think in your mind is just, illogical. You are Protectors, serving to defend the people. But you killed the people you want to protect. The Fallen that you all killed, were once human. We saved them from dying. We gave them immortality, but you killed them because you think we do wrong. I personally think it's hilarious. You all lose, but I don't. I have the last laugh, Protectors - or should I say exiles? As of now, your race no longer exists." He burst out into a long laugh, as the vampire couple and Veil stood by, Mira and Lex smiling, but Veil's emotions were unknown.

"You bastard..." I restricted Michael from pulling an unnecessary punch, not wanting to escalate this any further.

"Alright, I will pull the worst war you will ever have. Your troops are basically just cannon fodder, let me reiterate, cannon fodder. Train them well, sucker, but I will find my friends." I swiped Mira away, and sprinted through the twisty corridors of the Parliament building, in search for Helena.

"Elise! Is that you?!" I hear a familiar cry. I rammed the door down, only to see many of my schoolmates hauled up into a room.

"You... her... what?"

"No time to explain, Helena. Everyone follow me!" I commanded. Everybody rose to their feet quickly, as I spot Zayn's face among the horde.

"How long have you been locked up here?" I asked, hurriedly.

"About a few days... where were you?"

"It's... complicated..." I muttered, sprinting towards the secluded area where I left the boys.

"Here, take care of these two, and Mira." I gently placed Mira's unconscious body in Helena's hands and told everybody to hide and keep silent until I came back.

So, I returned to fight with Michael. He nodded to me, and I seemed to know what he wanted. The move he had written down in his little notebook - but needed two people to manifest its power.

"Palm of Unity!" We cried out, sending the burst of power Michael charged, and my Fallen outburst, executing every other Fallen that tried to attack us.

"We need to leave. I found the students." Michael reverted back to human form and was dressed in his traditional black 'bad boy' outfit with the shiny buckles.

"Can't leave without style, right?" Michael winked, obviously failing. I mentally laughed, remembering the Speed Demon rare video.

I freed Varus and my parents from their temporary prison, holding them. We returned to the students in a jiffy.

"Transport? Do we fly?" I don't know. Everywhere is unsafe.

"We'll get decent black cars and drive outta here." I got a few Range Rovers to appear and parked neatly with anti-zombie barriers. Everyone rushed into the SUVs, panicking.

"Did they do anything to you, Helena?" My dear little friend, although knowing her for only a few days until I left school, shook her head.

"I can navigate if you want to." I was lifting the brother's bodies and Mira's, loading them into my SUV. Michael and Varus each took one, while my parents sat along with me. Helena jumped into the shotgun seat, telling us which roads to take out of the city.

Driving, I slammed the accelerator and charged forth, following the instructions told. We found our first wave of zombies and smashed through them.

Michael and Varus seemed to be holding on. I hope nothing happens...

Do you think we will let you get away? Hahahahaha!

Voices? More? Who were they? This was different than Xandor's, Veil's, and Pain.

It sounded like the voices of young... teenagers...

I slammed the brakes, holding my head in fear and pain. The voices laughed so loud until all my energy had to be focused on removing them from my mind.

Are you scared yet? It's only the beginning!

But you'll find a way out, won't you?

If that's so... We'll make sure you never get it done!

They all disappeared, but my field of view was now a horror. The zombies had surrounded our SUV and were pounding on our doors, our windows. I revved up, but the car was just... stuck. The barriers were useless now.

Admit defeat? Die being a saviour for others?

I never paid attention to the back seats... and the middle row windows started to crack. What was that feeling? Desperation? I felt my heart rise up my throat.

My parents. They're in the middle row. The glass gave way, and the zombies' hands reached inside.

I swear - was that a black-clothed hand reaching for my parents?

They tried reaching for my seat, and I turned back feeling the ominous sign, but my hand was too late to grab them.

They got pulled out of the car, and as if succeeding their mission, the zombies backed off...

I couldn't bring myself to leave... yet Helena placed her hand on my shoulder, and told me to press on.

There was no one else in my SUV, except the two brothers and Mira. They awoke, obviously remembering they had to kill me.

"Helena, drive!" I pulled her to my seat and absorbed the blow.

"Ouch... ouch... OUCH!" I yelped in pain, although it probably felt fatal.

"How dare you take us hostage, halfbreed!"

"You got my parents instead, my friends..." My tears just rolled down my face, thinking of how the amount of pain I take in cannot take away the fact my parents are now kidnapped, all because of me.

"Who cares about your parents? We got you now. No bastard Protectors are coming to save you." Mira saw the other figure handling the wheel, and found out Helena was driving.

"You ain't gonna do anything to -" I felt the burn in my neck. I felt it difficult to let out a word.

"You're all alone, let's play with you a little. Your friend won't disturb us at all, right, Helena?"

"Yes, my brothers and sisters." Was the monotonous reply.

Shit. Shit. Shit.

Lord save my brain...

***

"Elise? Elise!" I found myself in reality again, but the voice that called me, and the faces that I saw, caused me to jump back in shock.

"You, you... and you?! Don't frighten me, please don't come giving the nice treatment game to kill me!" I prayed hard, my hands clasped together.

"What are you talking about, Elise?" Shane asked.

"Wait... you're all normal?"

"We just woke up, and you were lying there like... and well... you're really different." I brought my hands up, and found the effects of my halfbreed form, yet again.

"Looks like the universe collided." Helena laughed.

"And you, Mira? Weren't you... just waiting to just kill me for my blood?" She gawked at me as if I was crazy.

"I did?!" Now it was my turn to stare at her. I didn't understand what in the holy hell happened during my consciousness blackout.

"Apparently, you did something to us, saved us from that weird voice in our heads. We just couldn't help but obey it, and be the people they wanted us to be." Joshua leaned against the nearby SUV and flicked his hand.

"I believe that's... great, and by "they", who are you referring to?"

"We don't remember. All we know is it's a he, and that he was very authoritative. Like some overlord." That's it.

"All of you, at once? Shane, Joshua, and Mira nodded.

"Although I feel like Ash was once my lover..." Alright. I'm triggered.

"Mira... Ash is worse than me. He is with that voice from your heads. You shouldn't think of him anymore."

"And what's your reason for us to follow you?"

"I saved you, from starting to err and cause the death of the humans. I stopped you from being controlled by him. Everyone else is with us too."

"He does not give freedom, but he gives chaos. That's my reason to save you and the rest of our friends."

"Elise! Why are we stopping? Where's Baron and Jeanna?" Michael panted from running to us after seeing our SUV parked and had come to wipe out the zombies.

"Gosh! My parents!" I slammed my fist on the dashboard, shaking my head - now I have to save someone again because I lost them.

Kill me.
