Chapter 63: Charlie and FrankenStynes
Alfie, Ethan, Jason and I had just gotten back from fighting a small vamp nest. Marcey, Sam and Dean hadn't wanted to come so we expected them to be at the bunker when we got there, but when I opened the door to the bunker there was a teenage boy sitting at one of the tables, in the library, by himself. So I did what any normal fifteen year old prophet would do, I pulled out my gun and pointed it at him. "Hey who the hell are you and how did you get in here?" I yelled. The boy turned around startled and looked at me. I recognized him from my vision about the arch-nephilim "Oh um, sorry hi . . . Mikey . . . " I put away my gun awkwardly.
"I- uh Marcey and um . . . Dan brought me here. Who are you?"
"Marcey and Dean brought you here," I laughed. "Sorry if I freaked you out I wasn't expecting you to be here. I'm Maria. I'm a prophet and I had a vision about you and some other kids like you. This is my brother Jason and my friends Ethan and Alfie."
"You're a prophet?" He asked.
"Don't look all surprised at me your dad is a freakin angel. So why'd they bring you here?"
"My girlfriend was a demon," he shrugged.
"Is she okay now?" I asked.
"Uh no Dean had to kill her," he said. "She might've been a demon the whole time I don't really know."
"Wait you couldn't tell if she was a demon?" I asked.
"No," he said.
"Wait can't you see demon and angel faces?"
"Nooo . . ." He said. "Am I supposed to?"
"Did you get your wings yet?" I asked.
"My what now?"
"Wings," I repeated.
"Have you gone through your magic pigeon puberty yet?" Alfie asked. Mikey just stared at him blankly.
"Marcey got these big black wings a while back," said Ethan. "Then she fainted."
"Umm nope doesn't sound familiar."
Marcey and Dean came into the room brandishing guns. "We heard yelling."
"Too late," Ethan said. "Mikey would be dead by now."
"Ethan I know where you sleep at night," Marcey said.
"Hey Marcey AJ can see demon and angel faces too right?" I asked.
"Yeah why?" Marcey asked.
"Mikey can't."
"Dude how old are you?" Marcey asked.
"Fifteen," he said. "Why?"
"Gabe!" I holler-prayed. Nothing.
Nothing.
Nothing.
"I've tried that before," Mikey said. "He doesn't show."
"Okay fine," I said. "Cas?"
"Yes?" He poofed up right next to Dean, causing him to jump.
"Hi Cas this is Mikey, Gabe's kid, Mikey this is Cas, he's your uncle on the angelic side," I explained. "Mikey doesn't seem to have his angel juice yet, even though he's two years older than Marcey and AJ. Any ideas?"
"He hasn't hit full power yet. It should happen at different times for all seven of them. Most likely later for the boys."
"But I could see Cas' real face before I got my mojo and Mikey didn't notice his girlfriend was a demon," Marcey said.
"But I can tell he's not human," said Mikey pointing at Cas.
"Nephilim can always see angel faces. Most nephilim can see the demon faces from the moment they are born and can barely see angels most of their lives. You completely see angels all your lives and demons later in life."
"Okay thanks Cas," I said. "What do we do with the nonmagicky arch nephilim? I mean there are demons trying to get to him obviously and he can't see them."
"Well she didn't try to kill me and we were dating for months."
"Well maybe she was just a demon today?" I asked.
"Okay but she could've killed me any time today too," Mike pointed out.
"Okay so she was waiting for something?" Dean guessed.
"Well there was a demon when we got to AJ's," Ethan said. "I made her a sandwich."
"Wait wait hold up why didn't Marcey see that one?"
"I was a little distracted at the moment and I don't always see them if I don't focus!"
"Okay," Ethan said. "But that one didn't kill AJ!"
"Wait AJ was really weak when we found her," I pointed out. "Marcey just passed out, then woke up, but AJ couldn't even speak."
"So maybe the demon weakened her somehow and was trying to keep her in the house until it's pals could come and collect," Dean said.
"And Mikey's girlfriend was waiting for him to angel up and pass out and try the same thing," I finished.
"So they've got demons watching all of us?" Mikey asked.
"I have four cousins out there who have demons spying on them," Marcey sighed.
"If no ones been taken already," Cas sighed. "This is bad."
"AJ just needs to find them before anything happens," I said. "For now Mikey here stays in the bunker until he powers up."
"Wait so I'm a prisoner now?" he asked.
"Your under protective custody," I said.
"Same thing," he said.
"No," I said. "It's not. Because if you were a prisoner and you tried to escape we would kill you. If you try to escape we find you and lock you in the dungeon. Big difference. Now where the heck is Sam? He should maybe be part of this conversation."
"He didn't come back with you guys?" Dean asked.
"He didn't leave with us in the first place," Jason said. "He's not here?"
"Your note said 'we went on a hunt' so I just assumed 'we' included you guys and Sam," Dean said.
"Well I haven't seen him since before we left," I said.
"Weird," Dean said. "He'll show up eventually though. It's probably nothing."
:::Time skip brought to you by these magical dots right here:::
Dean and I were researching the stynes on the computer. The door opened and we looked up. Sam was back.
"Hey," said Sam.
"Well, you look like crap on toast," remarked Dean. He kinda did.
"I just haven't . . . really been sleeping well," Sam said.
"There's a woman you haven't mentioned?" Dean asked.
"A woman? " Sam repeated.
"Or you and Gabe have been spending some quality time together," I added. Sam and Dean stared at me blankly. I shrugged.
"I'm just saying. You weren't here when I went to bed last night. You've been running off on your own a lot these past couple weeks," Dean said turning back to Sam.
"I do that," Sam said.
"You actually don't," Dean said.
"Dean, we don't always do the exact same thing at the exact same time. Remember when you went off and snuffed that vampire nest by yourself?" Sam said.
"Have you been snuffing vamps' nests?" asked Dean.
"No, I-I . . . What is that? What are you doing?" Sam changed the subject.
"So, those goons that were after the book, the, uh, the Stynes, well, the one that we killed said that he had a big family. So if there's more out there, we figure we should probably get to know as much as we can about them," Dean explained.
"And?"
"And they're responsible for everything bad that ever happened since the 1800's," I said.
"But then the the trail goes dead. There's nothing in the research, there's nothing online. It's like the family just popped up one day," Dean said.
"Families don't usually do that," Sam said.
"No, they do not," Dean agreed. "Hasn't been a total waste of time, though. I think we found a case. There's a mention online of a murder in Omaha. Victim's eyes were cut out. Janitor runs in just as the killer jumps out the window,"
"That's it?" Sam asked.
"yeah Sam that's it just a guy murdering a woman for her eyeballs," I said sarcastically.
"Well, the window was on the third story," Dean said. "Look, man, I'm just trying to stay busy here, okay? Unless you have bigger fish to fry."
"No, I'm sold. I'm in," Sam said.
"All right, well, I'm gonna hit it. You probably should, too. We'll leave first thing in the a.m." Dean said.
"Okay awesome I'll go tell the others!" I said.
"Maria we cant bring you guys. You're still way too young to be FBI just like you were yesterday," Sam reminded me.
"UGH!"
:::Time skip brought to you by Timmy Turner:::
"RING RING RING RING RING RING RING BANANA PHONE!" I woke up the next morning to my phone playing the ringtone for when Dean called. Marcey through a pillow at it in annoyance. I answered it.
"What did y'all figure out?" I asked.
"Well hello to you too Maria. It looks like one of the Stynes was stealing eyeballs. Then he jumped out of the window and kept running," Dean said.
"After jumping out of the third story window?"
"Yup," Dean said.
"You sure it was a Styne? Not like a freaky eyeball eating monster?"
"He had a tattoo, same one the others had."
"Well what does he want with eyeballs!?!?"
"No clue. We're heading back now. See if you can find anything else about the Stynes or why they might want eyeballs."
:::Time skip brought to you by a majestic zebracorn:::
"All right, I vote for pizza," I heard Sam say.
"Pizza?" I asked.
"Yeah nothing left in the fridge," Dean said.
"Okay awesome! But you need a lot because Jason will seriously eat a whole one by himself and get Ethan like a meat lovers with extra sausage or something. I couldn't find anything about the Stynes or any reason they might want eyeballs. Alfie and I couldn't think of any spells or find any in the books that the Styne guy might want to perform."
"Okay well Sam can help you look while I go get pizza," Dean said. He grabbed his wallet and left.
"Sam what's with all the disappearing lately?" I asked. "I mean I assume its about the Mark of Cain because otherwise you would tell Dean right?"
"Umm yeah I asked . . . Cas to look into uh some stuff about the Mark," Sam said.
"Okay just maybe try to act a little less suspicious about it," I said. "Or Deans gonna find out."
"Yeah, got it," he chuckled nervously. That was weird.
:::time skip brought to you by Strawberry Shortcake:::
I was looking through some spell books and Sam was searching the web when Dean walked in, with a man in handcuffs, who was carrying our pizza.
"What happened?" I asked.
"Well Mr. Styne here tried to kill me," Dean said.
"Styne?" I repeated. "As in now we have a lead and or some kind of leverage on the crazies? And you let an eyeball stealing murderer carry our pizzas?"
:::Time skip brought to you by a dragonfly:::
We chained Eldon's arm to the ceiling in the bunker dungeon to secure him.
"Here's how this works," Dean said. "You're strong. I'll give you that. But you can bleed and hurt just like the next guy, so I'm gonna ask questions, you're gonna give answers, or it's gonna get crazy real quick."
"Well, I hope you got some time. I'm not the usual breed of cat," said Eldon.
"Dude we can tell you're not a cat," Alfie whispered next to me.
"Neither are we," Dean said. "Did you kill that girl in Omaha?"
"We are totally cats though," I whispered. "Majestic cats." He shook his head and poked my face.
"Yeah," Eldon-the-not-cat glanced at Deans arm. "So, it's true. You have the Mark of Cain. My sympathies. That's why you wanted the book . . . to remove it."
"We wanted the book because that's where your power comes from," Sam said. "See, our family business is putting guys like you out of business."
"Oh. It's impressive. Let me tell you about my family business. You're in way over your heads. The family is vast . . . spread over the world. And that power that you mentioned doesn't come from the book. It comes from intelligence and will. The book facilitates. Stock market dive, recession, 9/11 . . . any of them ring a bell? Arab spring. Didn't even break a sweat."
"Okay. Why?" Sam asked.
"Well, you got to be in it to win it, boys. You see, chaos breeds fear. Fear breeds panic, and panic breeds desperation, and there's always profit to be made from desperation. You make a big enough mess, has to get cleaned up. And we've been in the fix-it business for 1,000 years, and business has never been better." Sam's phone started vibrating. "Now, for the last 80 years, we haven't had the book. With the book, we're unstoppable."
Nope cuz we burned it!
Sam went to the hall to answer his phone.
It's probably Gabe.
"The girl you killed . . . why take her eyes?" asked Dean.
"That whole situation . . . unfortunate. We normally never leave a body when we harvest."
"When you what?" Dean asked.
"It's a family specialty . . . bioengineering. Surgical enhancement. And I'm not talking about nose jobs. See?" He used his free arm to lift his shirt. There was a long scar running down his chest. "Two hearts in here. Bunch of extra muscle, especially in the legs. Every man in the family's had a little something. Pretty much what you'd expect, though, given the family tree."
"The Stynes?" Dean asked.
"The real family tree. The name was altered out of necessity. You have chanced upon a lineage with a long and proud tradition . . . And some unwanted notoriety. One of Europe's oldest families. The house of . . . Frankenstein."
"Frankensteins aren't real," Dean said. "They're made up."
"Dean are you sure?" I asked. "Since when is anything made up anymore. I mean I thought you were made up."
"But Frankenstein?" Dean asked. "That's fiction not lore."
"Yeah, of course. And we never had a family acquaintance named Mary Shelley who spent a few nights in castle Frankenstein and stumbled upon our secrets, and forced us to change our name and go underground. Just because it's a book doesn't mean it's fiction."
"So, why didn't Shelley go public?" Dean asked.
"She wrote a book. Doesn't get more public than that. But no one believed it to be true, just like no one's gonna believe you."
"Well, as long as we believe, that's enough," Dean said.
"Yeah, well . . . as mighty as I'm sure your little family is, mine is a juggernaut. We're not ordinary men. We're Spartans."
"I thought they were cats," whispered Alfie.
"But you aren't immortal."
"What we are is expendable. I go down, there's an army of replacements behind me."
"And where does this army call home, hm? Who's big daddy Frankenstein?"
"Were you here when I mentioned that we're underground? There are secrets."
"Well, I'm swell at uncovering secrets," Dean said.
"You give me the book, and it's conceivable that we could have a conversation," Eldon said.
"The book?" Dean asked.
"Mm," Eldon nodded.
"Dude, we don't have the book. The book was burned."
"The book is protected by a spell. It's eternal. It cannot be destroyed." Eldon said. Everyone looked as shocked as I felt. We saw it burn. We saw the book burn to a crisp. Sam burned the dam thing. So why would Eldon lie about it? What could he possibly get out of that?
Sam on the other hand . . .
Fool the Stynes, and his brother, remove the mark from Dean's arm. . . .
Plus he's been acting really weird lately.
So we went to confront Sam. We walked out of the room and found Sam in the hall on the phone. " . . . be there as soon as I can." Sam hung up and turned around. He sorta jumped when he came face to face with all of us standing there.
"What are you doing?" Dean asked. I poked Alfie's face and stepped casually to the other side of Marcey so she was between us.
"Uh . . . Something came up."
"What?" Dean asked.
"It's handled. Uh, what's going on in there? Get any more out of him?" Sam asked.
"Yeah tons," Ethan said with his fake happy voice which is creepy and coated in sarcasm.
A door slammed down the hall loudly. We ran towards the noise and found a trail of blood leading out of the dungeon. We looked into the room and, to my horror, Eldon was gone. The only thing in the room was his arm, still chained to the ceiling.
"Oh, my God," Dean said. "He ripped it off. Okay um I'll go see if I can find him. Go research and do nerd crap in the library."
"No I think I'll take the bloody mess over research," said Marcey. They ran after the blood trail.
"Okay let's go people," said Alfie.
"Yeah Sam and I will catch up in a second guys," I grabbed Sam's arm stopping him and waited until the others were out of hearing range. "Sam what the hell?" I hissed.
"What?" he asked.
"Eldon just told us the book can't be destroyed," I said, crossing my arms.
"He said that while Dean was in the room?" asked Sam.
"Yes while Dean was in the room!" I almost shouted. "Is this what you had Cas 'looking into'?"
"Yes," Sam said.
"What did you burn?"
"Some random book," Sam said.
"Can Cas even read the thing?"
"No Rowena and Charlie are working on it," Sam said.
"You put Charlie in the same room as Rowena and the object that the people who want to kill her are looking for?"
"Cas is with her she's fine," Sam said.
"Okay why is Rowena helping?" I asked. "You know she's going to stab you in the back whatever deal you made?"
"It's not like I trust her," Sam said. "We just need a witch to translate the book."
Well there's another witch walking towards the library right now. I though, but I decided not to mention it because I wasn't sure how Sam would react.
"You trust her enough to hand over a book of evil old dark magic spells and trust she's reading the right one to cure your brother and not one that say, blows up half the planet or something! Plus what does she get out of this? What's your side of the deal?"
"She wants me to kill Crowley!" Sam said.
"You're going to try to kill Crowley? It won't be the first time and it's never worked before," I said. "And I know he's the king of hell but there have been two demons who legit helped you and Crowley is the only one who's still alive."
"Who's the other one?"
"Meg," I said.
"Oh yeah, until Crowley killed her. He's the king of hell!"
"Do you remember when you met him and he helped you stop Lucifer?"
"Yeah so that he could survive and then become the king of hell!"
"He also fixed Bobby's legs for no apparent reason!"
"Don't bring Bobby into this. Crowley is a demon and he's evil and he's done more bad than good and it's to save Dean."
"He's done more bad than good? May I remind you that the combined efforts of you and your brother started the damn apocalypse, that one time that Cas decided to play 'God', and the fact that you are making a deal with Rowena McCloud?"
"McCloud?" Sam repeated.
"Crowleys last name Crowley is her son and is that really all you got from that?"
"Maria, it's to save Dean! I thought you wanted to help?"
"Of course I want to help Dean get back to normal, but not like this Sam. Dean said the Mark was pulling him towards the book, it's evil. Bad things are going to happen. We need to incase the thing in concrete not try to use it."
"If it was Jason would you be doing any differently?"
"No but that's because my judgement would be screwed to hell if it was Jason," I said. "And you would be the one standing right here telling me it's a bad idea. We will continue this conversation later let's actually go research the Stynes/ Frankensteins with the others."
:::Time skip brought to you by Lady Vastra:::
Dean and Marcey got back to the library after searching for Eldon where the rest of us were doing 'nerd crap'.
Except for Mikey who was upstairs playing with Cinders.
"Hey. Any sign of him?" Sam asked.
"Lot of signs . . . just no him," Dean said. "I followed the blood trail . . . which, by the way, was like the Mississippi . . . till it ran dry."
"Meaning what? He bled out?" Sam asked.
"Meaning that the trail stopped," Dean explained. "Vanished. Nada. He sure must have thought he was gonna win that one, 'cause, phew, was he gabby."
"Well, we've been going through everything we have on the Frankensteins, and it's just like Eldon said. I mean, 1,000 years of nasty. They made a ton mopping up the black plague. They started the 100 years war."
"You know, I thought, "man, there's a lot of them Stynes." You know, it's like, uh, Alpha-male central," Dean started pacing behind Sam's chair. "And then I thought . . . and this is key . . . I thought, 'this is bad, but it would really blow if these guys had the book. At least they don't have the damn book.'"
"Maria already told me what he said Dean," Sam said. He stared at the floor. "Look we can get the mark off of you-"
"So he was telling the truth? You had it this whole dam time? You lied right to my face?"
"I thought it was our only chance to get rid of the mark so I grabbed it!" Sam said.
"I made it clear how I felt!" Dean yelled. "Ever consider that?"
Sam's phone began buzzing. He glanced over at it and back at Dean.
"Sam, you answer that, so help me . . ." Dean said right before Sam answered the phone. "Hey. . . . Who's gone? . . . Where'd she go? . . . Yeah okay bye."
"Sam who's gone?" Dean asked.
"Charlie," Sam said putting his head in his hands.
"I don't freakin' believe it!" Dean shouted. "You got Charlie involved with this again, and now she's missing?!" Sam's phone started buzzing again.
"Charlie-" Sam said before I snatched the phone away from him. "Hey Charlie it's Maris just tell me where you are?"
"I'm at this motel and there's someone trying to get in-"
"Charlie what motel?" I asked.
"The Blackbird motel."
I put my hand over the phone "Marcey, Charlie is in the Blackbird motel fly over there and get her!" I said.
Marcey nodded popped out her wings and disappeared.
"Charlie don't let them in," I said into the phone.
"Yeah okay I think I got-" Charlie was cut off and I heard a thunk like she had dropped the phone.
"Charlie?!?" I yelled.
There was a flapping noise and Marcey reappeared with a terrified looking Charlie.
Now that that was taken care of . . .
I went to the table.
Picked up Sam's precious laptop.
And I chunked it straight at his head.
He was fairly surprised.
He instinctively put his hands up in defense.
And knocked it to the ground.
A/N
Hey peoples!
I promised you Charlie was not going to die in my book.
Plus Marcey can teleport so why on earth would we just drive like Sam and Dean.
And guess what?
If Charlie doesn't die Dean doesn't go kill crazy.
And so I am no longer following the shows plot line because I broke the thing.
sorry about how long it took this to make. Romanos_girl had an idea for a thing in a coming up chapter and I had to write it down and do some stuff to it and you guys are going to love it.
Actually some of you may want to kill me for it but you can't make everyone happy.
LURV CHU ALL!!!
