Unlocking secrets
Giselle's POV
I walked quietly behind Mom as she purchased my medication, wondering what she was going to confess. I couldn't believe I had dreamt about Dad, who died when I was only four years old and couldn't fully grasp what was happening. My mom was also pregnant with Nina at that time, and I felt bad for Nina, who never met him.
My mind went back to Mom's conversation with Doctor Lee, and I sighed as I wondered about the bond they spoke of. I walked slowly behind Mom, and we hailed a cab. I gave the driver our address and leaned back in my seat, my thoughts racing with different thoughts.
I had to call Paloma earlier and reschedule our appointment with the doctor. I didn't only want to prove to Paloma that I wasn't pregnant, but I also wanted to find out what was wrong with me; I felt sick.
I looked in Mom's direction, and she looked tense and lost in thought. She seemed stressed and kept sighing. We soon arrived home, and I had to snap Mom out of her thoughts. Her face flashed with embarrassment, and the cab driver chuckled lightly as we stepped out of the cab.
We walked to the door, and Mom's expression suddenly changed as she searched for the house keys. "Honey, I think I locked them inside," Mom said. I sighed, remembering I had also left mine inside. "Let's call Nina," I suggested.
I took out my phone and dialed Nina's number. It rang for a while before she answered. "Hello," she said in a dull tone. I was pretty sure she was rolling her eyes in the background. "Where are you, Nina? Mom and I forgot the keys," I said. I heard her sigh, "I'm at home. Let me come," she said, ending the call.
I told Mom what Nina said, and she simply smiled. Soon, the door opened, and I gasped in shock, remembering it was my birthday. All my friends were there, including Paloma and even Steven, all my old schoolmates. I felt tears well up in my eyes; I'm always emotional.
"Happy birthday to you, happy birthday to you..." they sang in unison. I smiled as they hugged me one after the other. I looked in Mom's direction, and she winked at me; I knew it must have been Mom and Nina's doing.
