Deception and anger

Giselle's POV

I sat quietly in the hospital room, browsing through my phone. Opposite me was Paloma, sleeping soundly on the hospital bed, who looked somewhat funny with her messy hair.

I took a few pictures, ready to tease her when she woke up. It's been 5 weeks since her accident. She went into a coma for weeks and only woke up 2 days ago.

During her coma, I had been busy with my new part-time jobs but always made time to come see her and I guess that kept her mom strong. Mom also often came by to visit and Nina, not being a fan of Pal, rarely came.

The accident's shock, not physical injury, put Pal in a coma. It was a Sunday, and I wasn't busy, so I volunteered to keep her company whilst her mom went to fetch a new set of clothes.

The door knob twisted, and the door opened, revealing Nina. I wasn't expecting her to come. She wore all black, a hoodie and cap concealing her head, and baggy pants. If I didn't know any better, I wouldn't have recognized her.

She closed the door quickly and quietly, as if not wanting to make a sound. It seemed she didn't notice me.

She turned around and flinched upon seeing me. She dropped something on the floor and quickly picked it up before I could it see clearly.

"What brings you here?" I asked. "Is it a crime to want to see Paloma?" she yelled. Her reaction took aback me. Why was she overreacting?

I sighed, realizing mom must have forced her into coming here. "What's going on?" a voice asked beside me. It was Paloma's. She was half asleep and kept yawning.

Before I could answer her, the door opened and Pal's mom walked in carrying three seemingly heavy bags. Nina rushed to her side and assisted her. I followed suit and took one bag, too.

Pal's mom, grinning from ear to ear, called out, "Nina." "Mom," Nina said, dropping the bags on the table and hugging Pal's mom. Paloma rolled her eyes.

Nina and Pal's mom chatted like two best friends while taking out the contents of the bags. Paloma and I watched them quietly.

Pal's mom handed us lunchboxes containing food. I took mine, opening it immediately. I was literally starving, plus Pal's mom was an excellent cook.

Nina also took out her own and sat next to me. Pal's mom excused herself and went out to talk to Paloma's doctor.

The three of us sat back in our respective seats, eating in total silence. I was the first to finish since I was hungry.

"Pal, I'll be going for a walk nearby. I'll leave Nina to keep you company," I said, sorting the dirty dishes. "You can't be serious," Pal said, her eyes fixed on me. Nina remained quiet.

"I am," I replied, taking my leather jacket lying on her bed and with that I went out of the room, leaving the pair together.

Author's POV

As soon as Giselle left, Nina's expression changed to a cold one. She went to the door and locked it, placing the keys in her bag.

Pal observed her movements. She quickly took out her phone and hid it behind her. "What do you want? " She asked, her voice shaking because of fear.

"Revenge, " Nina replied, placing her bag on the bed just below Pal's feet.

"I've been waiting for all these years thinking you'll apologize, but you refused, acting like nothing happened," Nina added, her tone sending shivers down Pal's spine.

"What are you talking about? Revenge for what?" Paloma asked.

"You mean to tell me you don't remember what you order your gangster friends to do at Esme's party 7 years ago? ", Nina yelled.

Paloma was in shock. She looked at Nina, her eyes wide in shock, her hands started shaking. Nina simply ignored her reaction.

Nina noticed Paloma's hand holding onto something behind her. She quickly snatched the phone from Paloma and smashed it on the floor.

Pal watched helplessly as Nina vent out her anger on her phone, too scared to say a word after knowing the reason for the revenge she didn't fight back.

Nina went through her bag and took out a syringe with some liquid in it. Upon seeing the syringe, Paloma panicked. A slap silenced her scream.

Nina could overpower Paloma since she was still weak from the comma. "Stay away from me", Paloma yelled with angry tears.

Her pleas all fell on deaf ears. Nina kept on slapping her. After venting out her anger, she took her syringe, ready to inject Paloma.

"Please don't," she pleaded. Nina ignored her. Suddenly Paloma's expression changed as she held onto her chest right above her heart, her eyes wide, mouth wide open, and tears in the corners of her eyes.

The ECG monitor beside her bed started beeping, sending shivers down Nina's spine. Nina's eyes narrowed and hands clenched into fists as she glared at Paloma.

Nina rushed to door and unlocked it. She immediately sprang into action as tears started pouring down her innocence face, "Please help me, my sister is dying! ", Nina cried.

The doctors quickly rushed to the room with Nina sobbing behind them. They quickly started examining her and it was then that Pal's mom and Giselle arrived.

"What happened? ", Pal's mom asked, her eyes wide in shock as she tried taking in the scene before her. The doctors asked them to step out a bit.

"Mom, as so sorry, it's my fault. I shouldn't have asked Paloma about the accident," Nina said, her voice cracking. "She had an attack because of me," Nina added, stealing glances from Giselle.

Pal's mom hugged Nina and whispered some soothing words to comfort her, while Giselle kept quiet, her hands clenched into fists.

"I still don't understand why her cheeks were all red and swollen. What exactly happened?", Giselle asked, catching Nina off guard. She looked down, avoiding Giselle's gaze.

She didn't know how to defend herself.
