Chapter 2
When I awoke I was tucked up in my bed. I felt I fleeting sense of panic as I struggled to get free of the bedsheets that smothered me.
It was only as I got dressed into my usual hoodie and jeans that I remembered.
Finch had said something that was alike what the creepy young man had said yesterday. Apparently I was descended from Owain Glyndwr? The Prince of Wales that going hit against English rule? Yeah, sure. And I was "Gifted." What the hell did that mean?
I crept downstairs to get my breakfast, hoping not to wake Cerian.
As I drained the last of the milk, I noticed a letter on the counter.
My name was written on it in fountain pen and it had a seal of the elements in it, just like in books of swords and dragons.
I opened it, curious.

The young man's words echoed in my head as I took the letter to my parents room.
"I didn't know you applied for this school, Cariad." My mum said, frowning as she read it.
"It is an awful long way away from home. Are you sure you want to go?" Dad added from over the top of a map that had been in the family for generations.
"I'm sure. And I didn't apply."
"Talented children. Maybe they thought that you were special and wanted you to go to the school."
"Thought?" That hurt.
"No offence sweetheart, but you haven't got a talent."
It was hard not to take offence at that.
"Are you absolutely sure you want to go?"
"Yes."
"Then if you want to go, it does seem like a good school..." Dad said. I smiled hopefully.
"You can't seriously be considering sending our youngest daughter miles away!" Mum growled. I rolled my eyes, they were fighting again.
"She wants to go!"
"It doesn't matter!"
"Mommy? Daddy? Why you shouting?" My little brother Llew came into the bedroom, blank is dragging behind him.
I hugged him, ruffling his blonde curls.
"Never you mind, monkey. Come on, I'll tell you a story."
Our parents fought all day and night, and Cerian didn't once appear from her room. I couldn't help but feel glad, but also incredibly guilty.
Three days later, I was unwrapping my new school equipment. I had a new, stiff collared shirt, a black tie and a red cloak thing with a hood, shoes and a bag with a pencil case. Everything was new, and I loved it.
"Strange though." Mum had said, as she held up the red cloak.
Before I knew it, Dad had driven up to a pair of iron gates and I was at my new school.
It was raining, as usual in Wales, and the giant castle of red brick seemed to glare sinisterly down at me.
"Well, here we are." Mum sighed.
Llew was crying, clinging on to me. Cerian had stayed at home, barely saying goodbye before rushing back to her room.
"Last chance. We can still go home."
"No. I want to stay here." Mum looked hurt, but I hadn't meant it like that. Not really. When I had told Mattie she had cried too, but agreed that it was best.
I hugged my family, holding back tears.
"Goodbye."
I turned and knocked on the large oak doors. A small door, set in the left large one, opened to reveal a small, plump little woman with rosy cheeks and a white cloak.
"Hello dear, come in come in."
"Could I have your name dear?"
"Cariad Galon-Gwyn."
She froze, staring at me.
"That's not funny, young lady. What is your name?"
"Cariad Galon-Gwyn, miss. Is there a problem?"
She stared at me for a moment longer before yelling down the hall.
"Master William!" I recognised that name from the letter I had received.
A large man with flaming orange hair came striding down the hallway.
"What is it Mia my darling?"
"This Weathemental told me that she is Cariad Galon-Gwyn."
"The White-Heart of Love..." Master William whispered.
"What?" He ignored me.
"Mia, gather the council. Bring Miss Galon-Gwyn to us when we call. Cariad, stay in the office until Mia comes for you."
The office was white, covered in awards and posters with weird names. When Mia arrived, she led me to a enormous room. There were four chairs in front of hundreds of plastic ones.
Each chair was coloured either green, white, blue or red.
One the big white chair was a slim lady with hair so blonde it was nearly white, hazel eyes and pale skin. She had a white cloak on over a white dress with a sash of blue beads. How she kept it clean I had no idea. I guessed she was Mistress Alys, the Air headmistress.
Master William sat on the big red chair, next to Mistress Alys. I got the feeling that he was normally like Santa Claus, jolly and nice. He wore a red cloak, loose jeans and a t-shirt.
Then, next to him, was a rather old lady with graying hair pulled tightly into a bun at the name of her neck. Wrinkles were sprinkled across her brow, and her ice blue eyes pierced mine. She was wearing a blue cloak, black trousers and a shirt. She was Mistress Gwlith, and she looked very stern.
Lastly was a young man that seemed vaguely familiar.
"I know you! Your the creepy prophecy guy!" I pointed at him, staring intently.
"That's Master Bryn, dear. I think you're mistaken." Mia said softly.
I shook my head, scanning him from head to foot. The floppy hair that reminded me of Justin Bieber before be turned into a prison regular, the cheeky grin, tanned skin and bright green eyes.
"Bryn. You knew who the child was and you, what, forgot to tell us?" Master William said sarcastically.
"Will, I did not forget to tell you. I suspected who the child was, but I was in no way sure." Master Bryn replied smoothly.
"Of course you were sure Bryn. She is obviously the White Heart." Master Alys said lightly.
This was so irritating! I hated being ignored. I felt that amounting anger in me again, but instead it was irritation. My fingers started to tingle, until it exploded.
A guest of wind blew through the room, pushing chairs over and blowing the cloaks of the Heads back.
They all looked at me.
"Will you stop pretending I'm not here? Am I invisible or something?" I mumbled, red-faced.
"She is the White Heart." Mistress Gwlith observed.
"Why do people keep calling me that?"
"Do you know what your name means?" Bryn asked me.
"Um... No."
" Cariad means love."
"I know that."
"Galon is heart, and Gwyn is white. You have friend that is a Earth Weathemental...Finch Evans? I will send him to explain the prophecy and your...differences."
"You may leave." Gwlith dismissed me.
I frowned slightly, and followed Mia.
"Each tower houses students of the four houses. As you already know a student in Earth, you will be staying in that tower. Your dorm is Oak, and you will be sharing with three other girls. Report to the office at 8:00 AM sharp."
"Am I allowed to tell people my name now?"
"Yes. Only if someone asks though. Any questions?"
I shook my head, just wanting to sleep. My dorm had four double beds, all with flowery covers. The one without baggage, which assumed was mine, was decorated with cherry blossom flowers. There was a chest of draws with a mirror and a alarm clock. There was a shelf above my bed and a small sink. There were curtains that I now drew closed for privacy, and I thought about how strange this all was as I fell into an uneasy sleep.
