Chapter 2
Margaret tried to grab Temp, before she could fall all the way. But instead, she fell too. Gregor yelled her name but he couldn't do anything except get help.
She counted the seconds that went by and listened to Temp giggling below her. It was probably like the swing or slide at the park for her.
She checked her phone, and then tried calling Desmond. But she was too far away. She still had her keys in her pocket and put her phone there too. Hopefully they would land soon.
Once they did, Margaret grabbed Temp right away, hugging her and making sure she was alright. She only had a dirty diaper.
She looked around and saw moving rocks. She took a step back. Those weren't rocks. Those were cockroaches. Giant cockroaches. She squeezed Temp tighter and took another step back.
The cockroaches moved closer. Then, they moved out of the way for an old cockroach that was walking on its back feet.
It stepped forward, staring at Margaret. She gave him a small smile, hoping it wouldn't eat her or something and it stepped away, going back on all of its legs like the others.
"Be she the princess, be she, be she the princess," one of them asked. They talked. Margaret almost screamed, but then she remembered something that happened.
"Be she the princess, be she, be she the princess," a cockroach asked the boy. The boy was holding the young Margaret.
"Yes." She answered confidently. She was the princess. She remembered. "I am the princess."
She had another memory, one of a cockroach named Temp, carrying her on his back. Later on, she had picked him out from hundreds of other cockroaches, asking for a ride.
Margaret looked around, searching for Temp. No wonder she liked that nickname. But why did her family not like it?
Finally, she pointed at the old cockroach that had stood up before, while still holding Temple, and said,"Hello, Temp. It's so nice to see you again." And it was. She has been away from here for 22 years. But she still doesn't remember where here is.
"Follow, will you, follow," he said kindly. She nodded her head.
"Can Temple ride on you? My arms are getting tired," she said, setting Temple on his back. "By the way, I call her Temp," she whispered to him, smiling. He shivered happily.
"Ride you?" He asked. She thought about it and finally agreed. Cockroaches are fast.
She sat on a young looking cockroach that was standing by Temp. "Meet you, Tick, meet you," he said. She made a surprised look. Tick was a girl roach that had saved her life. She was surprised that she remembered, too.
"Hello, Tick. Nice to meet you," Margaret answered, patting Tick on the head gently.
She looked over at Temple, who was lazily bouncing on Temp. She would fall asleep soon, and she really needs her diaper changed.
The cockroaches started running and Margaret relaxed, enjoying the ride.
After many twists and turns, they finally saw light. She saw a familiar field that had moss instead of grass. She looked up and saw giant bats flying in the distance.
"Bat!" Her younger self yelled, her face lighting up like a christmas tree. She wasn't afraid.
She got up off of Tick and picked the sleeping Temple up gently. A few people were coming out to meet her.
They did look strange, but she thought of them as friends. Some of her memories were coming back and she knew that these people had saved her numerous times. They were Underlanders and she was an Overlander.
One of the Underlanders walked right up to her and hugged her. She looked like she was around Gregor's age and she wore a crown, showing that she was royalty.
What Margaret didn't know, was why she was hugging her. This person was obviously royalty and she was hugging an outsider, and Overlander.
Behind the woman, stood three other people, people that Margaret knew she was supposed to know, but didn't.
She smiled at them kindly, but still hugged Temple tightly, keeping her close.
One of the people behind the woman was an old man, who seemed unable to walk well. He had a cane and his face was lopsided on the right side.
Another one of the people was a woman, a little older than Gregor, and she looked like she was a kind person.
The last person, looked different from the others. He had dark hair and his eyes weren't purple like everyone else's. He smiled at her.
The woman cleared her throat and said,"I can't believe how much you've grown, Boots. You seem as old as me, and you even have a child of your own." She smiled at me, a half smile that seemed familiar, but I didn't return one.
She had called her Boots. Was that her old nickname? Margaret felt something tickle my ankle and saw Temp touching me with his antennae. She smiled down at him and said, "Would you like to say something, Temp?" This would get weird. She was used to calling her daughter Temp.
Temp shook his head and walked towards Tick. Margaret guessed she was Temp's daughter.
She turned back to the woman and said," I'm sorry. Can you introduce yourselves? I know you know me, but I haven't seen you in such a long time." She didn't want to be rude by saying she forgot who they were, so she just said that.
The woman shook her head yes. "I am called Queen Luxa," she said. She pointed to the old man,"That is Vikus. I will let the others reintroduce themselves."
She turned to them. The woman that was older than Gregor said,"I am Dulcet." Margaret's face lit up. She definitley remembered Dulcet.
"Boots?" The man said. "How can you you not remember me?" He had hurt his voice. "It is not like I am like all the others." He pointed to his hair. Margaret shrugged her shoulders.
"I'm sorry. But it's been a long time."
He sighed and replied,"It is alright. I am called Hazard."
Margaret's face lit up and she ran to hug him. When she left his arms, she saw Luxa watching them and smiling.
"You will follow to the High Hall?" She asked. It wasn't a command. It sounded like a question.
Margaret looked around once more. Hazard held out his hand and she grabbed it for support. This world may seem familiar, but it is still definitely strange.
