We roamed around the endless fields. I was getting insane by now. I didn't feel alive. I couldn't feel alive. And everything was either black or white. And everything was dark. There was nothing which radiated warmth and kindness. Also, I've recently been having problems with my skin. It's not that it was white/grey. It was starting to... fade away. Yes, fade away. And I couldn't understand why. But it was scaring the shit out of me.

"So we have an actual plan?" Karl asked.

"Nope. But that's the way I work." I answered. He turned to me. I bet he was raising an eyebrow or something. I didn't know. His features were blurry and it was hard to say what was he doing exactly.

We kept walking, on and on, until I simply could no more. The souls were frozen everywhere, as if someone had pressed the freeze button and had left them there, unalive. The black dirt wasn't as when I fell to Tartarus, but rather moister, something I couldn't understand.

"This is useless." I moaned. I was about to fall to my knees.

"We'll find it. It can't be that hard."

"YEAH, SURE!" I screamed towards the black horizon, spreading my arms and hands in a dramatic way. Then, I plopped to the ground. It felt good to not be exercising my legs.

"Get up." He demanded.

"No."

"I said get up."

"No."

"Why not?"

"Because it's easier to give up." I mumbled.

Silence followed that. I glanced at the shimmering soul. I'm pretty sure I saw recognition, confusion and... Want? Karl took a deep breath and said:

"Perseus Jackson. Giving up is not an option. Never. So don't ever go saying that it'd be great. It'll drive you to worse matters. NEVER say that again." He looked serious.

I sighed.

"Ok." I pushed myself up and continued walking.

But soon afterwards, I stopped dead in my tracks. I heard it.
