Chapter 29: The End of the Battle; The Start of Reunions

Canyon puzzled over this for a bit, but then shook it off. The battle was done. The phoenixes had won.

Canyon looked over at the Rising Sun.

The ice had now receded to a thin, white glow, and the Skythors were now rallying up the enemies, shoving them in front of Canyon. Looking at this, she felt a kind of triumph. They had won over the savages. King Falcon Claws swooped down over to Canyon's side, fluttering in the air. "Canyon, you have now recognized yourself truly. I am happy for you." He looked at the now setting sun. "You know full well that Vuldrix, Talios, and Icefire meant well, right?"

"Yeah..." She said, then something jolted her memory. She quickly looked back, and saw that Vuldrix and his companions weren't there anymore. They were true to their words. "No, no, no, no, NO! Where are you, Vuldrix, Talios, and Icefire?" She started to frantically fly over where those three, ancient phoenixes were. "King Falcon Claws, where are they?" She started to panic, hoping that the truth wasn't real.

King Falcon Claws shook his head sadly, closing his eyes. "Canyon, as I've mentioned to one of my peers before, sometimes things happen, and some just need to move on without any more to embrace life. They chose their path. Vuldrix, Talios, and Icefire were great birds who gave up their soul for the greater good. And you cannot change the path that they chose." He said carefully. "They gave out a great sacrifice, so you must respect that." He said sternly.

"I know," She whispered. Canyon looked down at her talons. "But they gave up their life force for me so I could defeat all of the evil ones, and I failed. I failed to send back the Forbidden. Only Ice Talons was defeated, and he wasn't even the real threat!" She tried all that she could to hold back the tears that welled up behind her eyes.

"Look, Canyon. Not everything in life can be accomplished. That's why the phoenixes wrote the prophecy - so that someone else who is more likely to accomplish the task will do it. Don't worry. Someone else will definitely defeat the Forbidden, and it could be your time to be like Vuldrix." He looked up at the sky. "Those brave birds are probably up there somewhere in the Phoenix Heaven, looking out for us." He lowered his head, and looked down at Canyon again. "But now, why not you visit your family, eh?" He jerked his head forward, pointing behind Canyon.

"Canyon! Canyon!" A voice yelled to her from behind. Someone familiar...

Canyon whirled around, and she almost had a breakdown. There was her sisters flying towards her, and behind them, was her parents. Canyon held out her wings, and her sisters crashed into them. Canyon let herself fall, burying her beak into the warm, soft feathers of her sisters. When they were above water, she released them, and used her wings to rocket off upward. She noticed that her glow receded, and that she was back to her normal self - the form that she was before she even became a true Fire Phoenix. She felt a sudden emotion of joy.

Her siblings raced her to the top, where her parents caught them, and started to hug them ferociously. Canyon couldn't restrain the tears that came - they just happened. She sobbed quietly, overwhelmed by this truly magnificent experience. She thought that she had lost them, but now they had found her.

Canyon's mother stroked her cheek with a wing tip to brush away a tear when she released them. "My, Canyon. You've certainly grown up." She whispered.

Canyon's dad touched talons with Canyon, releasing her as well. "Yes, indeed you have. We've missed you so much, dear." He slid hers smoothly between his.

"I can't believe that Canyon had fought Ice Talons all by herself!" Her youngest sibling interjected, getting all riled up.

Canyon laughed, and they all swooped over each other in a circle, and glided into the sunset. They passed over the heads of phoenixes as well reuniting with some beloved ones, and this fueled Canyon's heart. The battle, for now, was done. She could be at peace with her family, and enjoy all she could.

Canyon now didn't even care about her surroundings anymore; the phoenixes of the Rising Sun, Water-Xs, Thunder Ices, Ice Dragons, and everyone else. She didn't need to think of anything else at the moment. She had her family.

    For she was home.

She was reunited with her family, and now nothing would tear them apart ever again.

Her family was her life, her soul, her home.

And nothing could change that final sentence.
