CHAPTER 39

Author's POV

This morning Vikrant decided to take an off from work and spend some time with Arushi. Though he was a little upset about Arushi's behaviour on the previous day he somewhere reasoned out that she might have had a bad day hence she had the irritation.

He decided to make up for all the time that they couldn't spend with each other in the past few days. He made himself completely free so much so that he instructed everyone at the office to not call him for any reason. He had made up his mind to cuddle with his dearest wife all day long with not a pinch of disturbance.

It was almost 9 in the morning and Vikrant had set the table with super delicious aloo parathas. He had a hundred things in mind to share with Arushi to talk to her to eat with her to have her in his arms and reduce the distance that their professional lives had brought in.

The clock ticked at 10 but there was no sign of Arushi's return. When Vikrant dialed her number the dial tone rang till the last ring but Arushi did not receive the call. He kept trying for a few more times and after the 6th time a message dropped in his inbox.

'Call You Later Busy right now ~ Arushi'

Vikrant decided to wait and kept waiting and waiting and waiting. It was already lunch time and Vikrant was still waiting with the now cold parathas in front of him.

When the clock stuck 4 his phone finally rang. Arushi it was.

"Where have you been? I was waiting for your call since so long." Vikrant said as soon as he received the call.

"Sorry I was a little busy at the hospital. There were new interns who joined today so had to take their briefing class and assign them their duties."

"Ohh"

"You called so many times since morning. Anything important?" Arushi questioned unaware about the plans Vikrant had made for the day.

"Nothing much. You aren't coming home today?" Vikrant asked sounding as much normal as he could.

"I don't think I am It's already 4 and It will take me atleast an hour and a half to reach home and as soon as I reach I might have to again leave for my night shift. So I was just planning on resting in the staff lounge till my night shift began."

"Ohh.. ok Take care."

"Did you have your lun.." before Arushi could complete her sentence the line was disconnected.

While Arushi just ignored the sudden disconnection of call thinking he might be busy Vikrant just smashed his phone on the floor out of frustration. He was already frustrated enough about missing Arushi day in and day out and today all of this had to happen when he planned on spending some time with her.

He packed the parathas and gave them to the security guard and kept sulking in his bed for the rest of the day.

The next morning when Arushi arrived earlier than usual she found the house empty. It was just 7 in the morning and Vikrant was no where to be found.

When she tried reaching out to him on his cell phone all that she received was a 'out of range' signal. She dialed his office landline but no one received it even until the last ring.

For some reason Arushi was a little worried by now but she did not have anyother option than to wait. She kept calming herself by building mundane reasons in her brain.

Owing the fact that her past 36hourd were quite hectic she did not realise when she fell asleep.

It was 2 in the afternoon when she suddenly stirred up from her sleep. The first thing she did was to look up at her phone for any messages or calls from vikrant but sadly there were none.

She again dialed his number but the call failed to connect and when she dialed to his office the call was received by his PA.

"Ria is Vikrant there around. I've been trying to reach out to him but his phone is out of reach." Arushi said as soon as Ria confirmed her presence on the other side of the phone.

"Mam sir has left for Jaipur the previous night. He said there was some emergency. And his phone is out of reach because he broke his phone the yesterday and left it here for me to get it repaired."

"Ohh...anything wrong at work? Why did he have to leave suddenly unannounced that too late in the night." Arushi questioned a little worried about Vikrant.

"I dont think anything is wrong at work that will make him fly to Jaipur mam because currently we don't have any clients from jaipur I thought it was something personal when he asked me to book a one-way ticket to delhi."

One-way ticket, No work emergency, No phone to contact him... All of the recently gained information was getting a little hard for Arushi to digest.

"When did he ask you to book the ticket?" Arushi blurted out the question as soon as it popped up in her brain.

"Late in the evening yesterday sir turned up at the office and gave me his phone and got the ticket booked and I guess directly left for the airport. Any problem mam...you sound worried" Ria asked from the other end sensing Arushi's discomfort.

"No nothing" Arushi said and abruptly ended the call.

Sometimes unintentional actions can hurt feelings more than anything that is done intentionally. Arushi had no clue about Vikrant waiting for her all day long and Neither did Vikrant know that Arushi wouldn't come home on that particular day. It was just a coincidence or maybe their fate just played a game.

And as an outcome Arushi was cluelessly sitting and wondering about what made him suddenly disappear without informing her while he was there somewhere cursing his fate and missing his wife even more.

There are times when we don't realise how and when we get attached to someone so much so that a slight change in the daily routine with them makes our mind go haywire.

And that is exactly what had happened with Vikrant.

Arushi sat thinking and fidgeting with her phone deciding whether or not to call her mother-in-law or sister-in-law to ask if vikrant had informed anything to them. And that's when her eyes fell upon a snapchat notification from vikrant.

When she opened the snaps there were a series of snaps that were sent yesterday and she hadn't seen them till now.

Sending snaps was something that Arushi always did when she missed him but this time it was Vikrant doing it.

'No laptop No meetings No phone calls its just you and me today.' was captioned on the first snap which had the image of his laptop on which a red cross was doodled.

The next snap was where Vikrant was on his bed hugging a pillow with a caption stating 'Can't wait to see you home so that I can replace this pillow.'

The third snap was from the kitchen when he was prepping the parathas 'Chef Husband on duty Yummy Parathas in the making.' the picture stated.

'The smell is getting on my nerves can't wait to share them with you come soon.' was the next snap where Vikrant was smelling the parathas.

The next picture had just the parathas on which a face was drawn and had a text box saying 'We are getting colder eat us soon.'

And the last snap had Vikrant's cute pout face with a doggy filter 'I miss you' it was captioned.

That was enough for a tear to drop down from Arushi's eye. When she checked the time of the last snap it was 2.11pm That's when she realised why Vikrant kept calling her throughout the day and why he questioned her about not coming home and why he suddenly disconnected the call and why there were no calls or messages from him after that.

She realised how bad he might have felt and though it was unintentional but she had caused distress to him.

With all the newly registered information Arushi still din't know what to do now.

The only question that kept ringing in her mind was 'Just because he got upset did he decide to vanish?'

It wasn't that only Vikrant missed her. The feelings were mutual but professional life was equally as important as personal life. Yes Arushi understood the fact that Vikrant was upset because he had planned on spending time with her and he made himself free to be with her. Maybe if she was in his place she would have also been a little upset but vanishing uninformed was something that arushi couldn't understand.

She knew vikrant was way more emotional than her, she knew that every small thing affect him more than it affected her but she couldn't even fully blame herself for the things that happened.

She was just doing her duty as a doctor as a employee unaware about what was vikrant planning on.

With all the chaos in her brain now even Arushi was a little upset with Vikrant's action of disappearing. No means to reach out to him, No idea about when he would return all she could do was wait wait and wait.

It was Vikrant yesterday and Its Arushi today!!!
