CHAPTER 25
Writer's POV
"Though all your actions are explained I still don't find a reason for you to leave." when Arushi said it she meant every word of it.
She understood Vikrant and his situation. Though he could have shared it with her earlier she knew Vikrant was someone who would bear every trouble by himself rather than troubling the people around him. But she felt his decision of disappearing from everyone's life was very impulsive.
She felt sad that Vikrant had to face all of it alone while on the other hand she was still angry for the fact that Vikrant thought she would be better off without him. Ever since the day they had met and connected with each other she has always thought that he completes her she thought Vikrant felt the same because his every small gesture before their marriage had made her feel it. Alas his fear was greater than his feelings towards her.
The whole night Arushi kept tossing in her bed thinking about Vikrant's confession she thought Vikrant would come to her and explain why he feared so much because she knew there was something big behind it because she knew such fears don't build in for no reason.
Vikrant did not turn up to their room the whole night. He was really regretting his bad decisions. He had always wanted to be alone but when there was someone who was making him feel that togetherness was better than being alone he could not resist himself. Back then he had started enjoying the feeling of togetherness, the feeling that is considered the best in the world, there was something that was making him fall for her.
As much as he was enjoying her presence around him he also wanted her to be safe sound and happy. But when he had seen her on that hospital bed he had realised that neither was she safe nor was she happy.
Though his decision only gave pain to him and everyone else he thought that it was the best for both of them until his mother and mother-in-law had knocked some senses in him. Now that he had realised it was a terrible decision he had made up his mind to rectify his mistake and make things better between him and his wife.
.
.
In the morning when Arushi woke up she panicked a little when she couldn't find Vikrant at home. She ran around the whole house including the kitchen, balcony and study room as well. She feared if he vanished again. When she tried calling him his phone rang somewhere near her.
She stood in the balcony looking around the garden area of the building to find him somewhere there but she couldn't. That's when the main door clicked open. She breathed a sigh of relief when she found Vikrant there.
"Where had you been?" she questioned trying to sound as calm as she could but her face and uneven breath was telling another story.
"To the super market to buy some dosa batter for breakfast." Vikrant replied still perplexed with his wife's question.
"Ok."
"You thought I would vanish again?" Vikrant leaned against the door and questioned her because he understood where from and why that question had come.
"Why would I be bothered if you stay or vanish." Arushi gave a cocky reply very much the opposite of what she actually felt.
"Ok....you freshen up I'll make some breakfast."
"Don't bother yourself so much..... I'll make it don't worry." she was really concerned about his health but her ego wouldn't let her give a straight reply.
"It's ok Arushi...I am fine now and I can cook. Please I insist. And who knows we may have to stay hungry if you cook so it's better I do it." he was teasing his wife though he very well knew that she had learned to cook pretty well.
Sighing in disbelief that her husband was making such horrible jokes early in the morning Arushi just glared at him before walking back to her room to get dressed for her day.
.
.
When Vikrant walked into the room to call Arushi for breakfast he found her standing infront of the mirror with the box of vermilion in her hand. When she did not acknowledge his presence Vikrant knew that she had zoned out.
Arushi was lost in her thoughts thinking about all the events that had taken place ever since the vermillion had made a place on her hairline. She wanted a simple happy life but god had to complicate it. Her heart wanted to forgive Vikrant and start a fresh but her mind was still pondering over the unanswered questions.
Vikrant knew everything about her even her fear of having a broken marriage. But she did not know her husband in and out. He was so reserved to himself that sometimes she had second thoughts on if ever her husband would completely open up to her. Her heart and mind were still in a dilemma on why would Vikrant fear to loose his people when he had such a happy family.
"May I?" Vikrant brought Arushi out of her world pointing at the vermilion.
"No it's ok" Arushi replied hesitantly and applied the vermilion by herself. Vikrant's heart pained after hearing her reply he always wanted to be the one filling her hairline everyday but to his dismay neither had things been better in past nor was his wife letting them get better now. The damage was huge he was only thinking of ways to fill the cracks between them.
.
.
Later in the evening when Arushi had returned home early from work Vikrant decided to have a talk with her. Getting her a cup of coffee he sat beside her on the couch.
"How was your day?" he questioned to initiate a conversation.
"Good...thanks for the coffee." Arushi replied sipping from the mug.
Vikrant's mind was juggling to form a proper sentence to talk to her. He wanted her to give him a genuine chance to make things alright. Her ignorant behaviour was making his mind go insane. Not wanting to make it a complex talk he directly questioned her "Can we give ourselves and this relation a fresh start?"
Arushi was flabbergasted with his question. She did not expect it to be coming so sudden. Not knowing what to answer she stared blankly at the wall infront of her and so did Vikrant.
With every silent second that was passing by his worries were increasing. He expected some reaction from her he was more than fine if she even yelled at him but he wasn't ok with her silence. The fact that she has been suppressing her emotions all the while was making Vikrant feel more worse. The girl who let her emotions fill her face now had a blank face all the time.
"Easier said than done." Arushi replied breaking the silence which prevailed for a very long time.
"I know it's difficult for you it's difficult for me as well. I am not expecting you to forget everything and forgive me straight away I just want you to give us and this relation a fair chance. I see my future with you I don't want to ruin it by making mistakes that I have already done. Time has made me realise that communicating with each other is most important for any relation to sustain. I have made a mistake of not speaking out my feelings and problems with you. And I swear I am regretting every bit of it. But I don't want you to do the same. Shout at me scold me punch me do whatever you want but just vent it out maybe then we can make way for a new beginning." Vikrant said kneeling down infront of Arushi and holding her hands.
Tears had already started flowing down Arushi's eyes. Ever since the day she had come out of her semi coma state she hadn't shared her emotions with anyone not even with her best friend or her sister. She knew Vikrant was right venting out will make things easier for them but she could not bring her mind to comply by it.
"It's complicated Vikrant....I can't you knew that I feared having a broken marriage it somehow came true I cannot bring my mind to overcome it again now....I really can't. I am sorry." Arushi shut her eyes as fresh tears kept trickling down her cheeks.
"It's ok you don't have to be sorry take your time." Vikrant said softly wiping the tears on her cheeks. When Arushi opened her eyes Vikrant was just looking at her. Both of their eyes had so many emotions to convey to each other. So much pain so much fear and above all that little tint of love that had the potential to overpower any trouble they had.
Arushi's phone started ringing bringing them out of their reverie. It was Vikrant's dad who was calling.
"We need to go to the hospital now." Arushi said in a worried tone as she disconnected from the call.
As they rushed through the corridors of the hospital towards the ICU their fear was increasing. Their fear of loosing the eldest family member. Vikrant's father had called and informed about how their grandfather's health was going from bad to worse. Many of his organs had failed.
"Sorry Mr. Shergill we could not save him." they heard the doctor say to their father.
Just when Vikrant was trying to make things alright he had to loose someone he loved the most.
