— We Are Moving —
We exit the school together, following Jay to his truck.
"Good day?" Jay asks me.
"Sure. You can say that," I reply. "I see you found yourself a woman today?"
"Yeah. She left a note in my backpack and I had interacted with her previously before that, so yeah."
He's too excited. Little does he know, she won't be there tomorrow.
We get in the truck and weave in and out of school traffic. We drive down the roads, eventually arriving at the beautiful Reed home.
We walk in where Mrs. Reed greets us.
"So, did Jack drive y'all home?" She asks, joking obviously.
"No," I say, laughing.
"Oh, that's perfect," Jay says, his smile widening. "After the school traffic is all gone, you and I can go to the parking lot, and I'll help you learn to drive."
"Oh um—."
"It's the perfect way to learn. You and me, side by side."
He is definitely up to something.
"Well, sure," I say. I would appreciate some one on one with Jay.
"Hey, Monica," I say. "I never got to see the backyard. Do you mind if I take a look?"
"No, of course not. Go look," she suggests.
I walk outside into the covered area. A large sofa is across from a wall mounted television. Under that is a beautiful, grand fireplace.
I step down the stairs that lead to the pool area. I walk through the grass to the tree where Alana was.
I look behind the tree. I search it. On the ground is an empty syringe. She must have taken her medicine right here and accidentally dropped the syringe.
Leaves. Leaves start to crunch to my right. I turn, watching the area.
I catch a glimpse of a hand. A black glove is over it.
Shit. Alana isn't gone?
Well, I guess she won't be returning to The Program.
I get a burst of aggression, as I sneak over to where the hand was. A little tool shack is the only thing between me and Alana.
I bring my guards up, and turn the corner, ready to take her down.
I turned, shocked at what I see.
Brushed over brown hair.
Gavin Simmons. Mrs. Simmons' son.
My eyes widen. "What the hell?" I ask.
"Look," he says, bringing his hands up to guard himself. His muscles bulge when he does so. He stands to face me. He is taller than me by a few inches. Nothing I can't handle. "I am not here to fight you. Just here to watch you."
"Well tell your mom that I don't need a babysitter," I reply, trying my best to be as snarky as possible.
"It doesn't matter. I'm here to stay because our last force couldn't complete the mission. She got to close to the mission, causing her to fail, and sadly, she will face the consequences.."
"I don't care. I need you to leave. I've got this," I say, desiring the amount of money I can keep for myself at the end of this.
"Obviously not. You've made no progress in completing this mission. I've only heard that you are having trouble with Jake?"
"It's Jay," I say, rolling my eyes.
"Either way, you can't get rid of me."
I look at the window through the house. No one is watching.
I leap at Gavin, striking him in the face with a punch. He pushes me off of him, bringing his guards up again. I lurch back at him, kicking my leg at his face. He blocks it, pushing my foot to the ground. He takes this opportunity to come in at me. I manage to push him away for a second, uppercutting him in the stomach.
"Come on, I thought you had more years of training," I say, trying my best to antagonize him.
He cracks his neck. "I guess that is true."
He runs at me full force and leaps into the air, landing on my shoulders. He wraps his calfs to my armpits, pushing me down to the ground. He twists in such a way where he is able to get below me as we land on the ground.
My head throbs as I smack it on his armor plate. He wraps his large arms around my neck, prohibiting me from breathing. I slam my elbow into him, although it does nothing.
"Now, I'm gonna let you go, only because you have to complete this mission," he says, wrapping his legs around mine to prevent me from moving. "You are to carry it out as you were going to before I was here. Do you understand?" He asks, releasing some of his strength to allow me to talk.
"Yes, I comply," I say, struggling.
He lets go with his arms and legs. We both rise, both keeping our guards up.
"Hey, dude. Get the leaves out of your hair," Gavin says, smirking and making a clicking noise with his mouth.
I roll my eyes, running my hands through my hair.
"I'll be everywhere that you are. Just know that's I'm only here in case any conflicts are to to arise."
I turn and walk away towards the house. I look at the window. Still, no one is there. I'm in the clear.
I walk up the stairs and enter into the house. Monica and Daniel are sitting together on the couch.
"Oh, Daniel, you're home," I say.
"Well we were beginning to think you fell in the pool," he says, laughing.
"How was your day?" Monica asks.
"There you are dude, let's go," Jay interrupts as he walks in.
"Oh, Monica I'll tell you later," I say, desperate to spend time with Jay.
Jay and I walk out to his truck and get in.
"Alright, I'll drive us to the school, you just got to practice when we get there," he says, smiling.
He shifts the gear and we start moving.
—
We arrive at the school parking lot.
"Ok, switch with me," Jay says, pushing open his door. I get out and walk around.
He stops me at the front. "Now, I'm trusting you with my truck. Don't break it."
"Got it," I say. "But no promises." We exchange a smile and then both get in.
"First, adjust your seat and mirrors. You wanna be able to see straight behind you, and the lanes next to you."
I fiddle with the seat and mirrors to where I can see. "Ok."
"Now, place your hands on the wheel. I like them here," he says, grabbing my hands. His soft hands send a shiver through me. He places them on the wheel, letting go of my hands.
"For this one, you're going to want to set your foot on the brake when you change gears because once you let off of it ever so slightly, it's rolling."
"Ok," I say. "My foot is on the brake."
"Then, shift the gear into drive. You can let off the break and we will move at about ten on flat ground. Obviously, it'll pick up speed on different terrains."
I move into drive, letting my foot off of the brake. We are moving. We go slow, but the speed picks up. We are definitely over ten.
Jay starts to roll his sleeves up and I turn to watch.
"Woah dude!" He screams.
I slam on the breaks, sending us both forward.
The car is stopped and it's dead silent.
"You almost hit something. Also, the breaks are very sensitive. You don't have to hit them that hard," he says, laughing.
"Well, you scared the shit out of me. I'm sorry dude," I say, laughing too. We laugh for about a minute.
"Ok, let's try this again," I say, letting my foot off of the break.
We start to move again as I figure out how to navigate turns. I'm getting the hang of it.
I even am fancy enough to use my blinkers. I start pressing the gas a bit where we are going barely over twenty.
I'm smiling and so is Jay.
The sun is setting when Jay says, "Let's get back home."
"Can I do one more turn?" I ask, having fun at the wheel.
"Sure, but make this one fast."
"If you say so."
I let off the break and push the pedal harder than I have before. We are going pretty fast now. I turn the car recklessly just as a car pulls up to me. We almost slam into them, but I save us and the truck by jamming my foot down on the break.
"What the hell!" Jay shouts. "You gotta be careful!" He jumps out of the truck to go view damage and apologize to the other driver.
I roll my eyes and slowly get out. The other driver gets out. It's a teenage boy. He moves around sloppily but then swings at Jay as he tries to apologize.
He beats him in the face, sending Jay back a little bit. He falls to the floor and shuffles back.
I run at the driver and kick him in the stomach. He falls down. He is definitely drunk.
Someone jumps out of the passenger seat and runs at me. He swings his fist at my face.
I block it, driving an uppercut to his chin. He falls backward just as the other guy gets up. He comes running at me.
I quickly boost myself up on the truck, sending a flying kick to his face. I land back on the ground, turning around to have a punch delivered to my chest. I stumble back, but regain strength immediately.
Thank you Gavin Simmons.
I run at the guy, leaping into the air, plopping on his shoulders. I wrap my calfs to his pits and bring him down to the floor, although I get on top of him instead of below him. I slam my fist down on his face, blood oozing from his nose.
The other guy lays on the floor, too drained to fight any more. Jay is still sitting in the floor, his eyes wider than ever.
"Come on Jay. You gotta drive," I say, helping him up.
He gets up, his eyes still wide. It's as if it was the most magical thing he has ever seen.
He gets in the driver seat and I get into the passenger.
"How how, how did you do that Jack?" He asks.
Crap. I need a lie.
"Well I've always been naturally gifted. That's why I joined the wrestling team. Also, my dad signed me up for karate as a kid and taught me a few things himself."
"Oh, well you seriously kicked ass."
"Thanks, I guess."
"No, thank you for saving my ass bro."
Jay reverses the truck out of the way of the incident and goes around it. He pulls onto the main road and drives, faster than usual, all the way home. He pulls into the driveway. No one moves. It's completely quiet. Just him and me.
"Look Jack. I'm so so sorry for everything. For real, this time. You completely saved me from any severe injuries back there. Yes, I was a bitch, but I hope I can make that up. Also, you were really amazing in combat out there."
"No, I should be thanking you. You taught me something, and I had so much fun doing it with you. It's not every day that something like that happens. Thank you, Jay."
I look directly in his divine, teal eyes. They're so tempting. He is looking into mine as well.
His eyes pull me closer. He is coming closer too. His smell is amazing as I get closer. Now we are directly eye to eye.
We both lean in and our lips barely touch.
"Shit!" I say, pulling back. "Sorry, that was my fault."
"No, no it wasn't Jack. Please don't go."
I push open the truck door and get out.
"It wasn't my place and you have a girlfriend. I would just ruin your perfect image. I'm sorry," I say closing the door. I run into the garage, straight into the house, up the stairs, and into my room.
I flop onto the bed.
What have I done?
