FOUR
THE PRIVILEGED
A SONG TO SET THE MOOD: AFRAID — THE NEIGHBORHOOD
CHAPTER FOUR: MENACE
—
"How the hell do you know her?" Jimin brazenly questioned in bewilderment, raising a confused brow.
Seokjin quickly lifted his head, immediately cackling maniacally as his own blood spilled out from in between his plush lips. The action left his companions in solid bewilderment, both of their eyes now the size of saucers, jaws hanging open in shock.
Sinister. His laugh was sinister, mocking their words, in fact. The almost melodic tune bounced off the walls while echoing around them as he went on and on.
Yet, it reminded Jungkook of his nightmare, the mocking chuckles made him shutter slightly. Seokjin obviously had more knowledge about the place they were currently being kept in, and he clearly knew who their abductor was.
Finally, he began to collect himself, shaking his head in his own embarrassment: "You know her?" He mimicked Jimin's mindless question in a high-pitched tune. "Of course I know her, I almost hooked up with her right before Namjoon and Hoseok arrested me at Highland Point. She's a menace, but Sunmi's a good friend of mine."
A Menace huh? Jungkook pondered about why a woman would want to do such things, going out of her way to kidnap Seokjin and his friends. Rather than reconciling with him instead of causing his agony and torturing him.
And they were also close in that kind of way. Maybe it could have just been a love-hate kind of relationship, with some sort of closure. But who knows?
"If she's a good friend of yours then why would she hurt you like that?" Jimin questioned his choice of words. "No true friend in the right mind would want to hurt someone close to them. It isn't right, Jin."
Jungkook could tell that he was on the verge of laughing at Jimin's dense words once again. Jin let his perfectly aligned pearly whites sink into his bottom lip before shaking his head and smiling.
His teeth were stained with crimson, and so was his split lip. Seokjin's once gorgeous, naturally pink lips were now a dark red as the hot, thick liquid drizzled down his chin.
What could have caused him to bleed like that? Taehyung did once inform Jungkook that most victims of that strange device also would bleed from their mouths after the nerve disablement ceased. The object used on Seokjin didn't even have a name to it.
Jungkook seriously felt the desire to understand why newer technology was like this, and why it had so many painful, strange side effects after almost everything it did to a person's body.
The thought was sickening, to think about how calm Seokjin was as he looked like a menace himself, even when he was in loads and loads of pure agony. Jungkook decided to conclude that Sunmi was most likely just as insane as Seokjin was due to the position she put him in.
With absolutely no doubt about it.
"Jimin, if you were born here, you'd understand why people are like this and what a normal person goes through and is like on the daily. Earth isn't all sunshine and rainbows, and you've experienced the crazies during the road trip with the others.
The exotic nature and scenery might be cool, but the people aren't. We all know that there's a lot of people out there who are worse than me. Don't you remember what happened?" Seokjin lectured on and on, cocking his head in an innocent tilt.
Apart from his insane side, he was also extremely intelligent.
Albeit, Jimin didn't reply, he just simply nodded in response. He knew that Jin was right, he was correct about how Jimin didn't know much about the planet besides the stereotypes and gorgeous biomes.
"I'm actually surprised that none of you are freaking out like you did when you first got here," he remarks, letting small giggle slip past his plush lips. "But anyways, Sunmi should probably be here in any second with one of her big ass fucking guns to threaten you."
His consulting made both Jimin and Jungkook uncomfortably shift in their seats on the ground, their faces pervaded with distress. Maybe the woman was possibly worse than him, from how she was described as a hazardous beast. Nobody who stepped foot on the planet was completely sane.
Not even Jungkook nor Jimin.
Then the door nearby Seokjin clicked, aggressively swinging open to reveal no other than Sunmi herself.
Jungkook silently scolded himself for not even attempting to escape through it as it went unnoticed due to him focusing on the now second eldest's major condition.
"Hi," Sunmi greeted them, taking long strides into the room after shutting the door behind her with a sneer. "You two can call me Sunmi. Lee Sunmi."
The teenagers stared back in disorientation, speechless and unable to let their mouths form the words that their vocal chords needed to produce. Sunmi simply scoffed and shook her head in annoyance.
They couldn't make out any form of speech only because of the fear that crept upon their skin, crawling like little insects all over them. The petite woman intimidated them drastically, she made them feel meek.
She only rolled her eyeballs as she let her bodyweight lean on one leg while she chided, "Tsk. Tsk. Not even Mr. Kim is talkative with me today! What a shame, what a shame."
Sunmi had a somewhat overflowing velveteen pouch in her left hand, who knows what kind of horrors could be stuffed away in its interior. Although, her face remained stoic, thin lips pulled into a small frown of insolence.
A plastic water bottle and a beige colored rag were both being held in her right hand, Jungkook supposed that she would hopefully let them have a small swig to quench their dying thirst.
"Treat me nicely and maybe I will talk to you. You weren't so nice last time you came in here," Seokjin protested, staring up at the woman with a disrespectful grin. His mood clearly shifted.
The woman made a face of disgust, spitting on Seokjin's black jeans. She then flashed a toothy smile when Jin spat gore back on her shoes, remaining seemingly unbothered by the man's crude actions.
Their friendship was quite the roller coaster.
Jimin and Jungkook remained situated in agitation and curiosity. Who knows if she would lay a finger on them only to strike them and mentally or physically torture them.
This wasn't the first time that the two privileged males had been captured. The last time, someone ended up narcotizing both of them in an empty bar.
Sunmi took a brief glimpse at Jin, "You look like shit."
"Are you sure that I look like shit after you called me handsome in that bar?" He jabbered, eyes full of determination. They showed little to no fear, like he consigned his trust in Sunmi.
"Dickhead," she clicked her tongue and turned to the others. "Isn't he a selfish bastard?"
Yes. Was what Jungkook longed to say, but knowing what Seokjin was clearly capable of, he decided to detain his lingering thoughts and feelings to himself. Jungkook wanted to keep his precious throat clean from any signature cuts made by Jin. The man would slice his throat open without a second doubt if he mouthed a single word.
On the other hand, Park Jimin decided to be bluntly honest with himself and Sunmi, "Yeah, he may be an asshat. But he saved our lives a few times, and he's our friend I guess. . ."
"You guess?" Seokjin roared. "I'm gonna kick your fucking ass once Sunmi releases my hands from these handcuffs!" He threw a longing stare to her.
Jimin suddenly felt himself flinch at his words, he wasn't one to take threats lightly. But knowing how much Seokjin actually did care for him, he wouldn't dare to inflict any pain to him.
He surprisingly had a soft spot for the arrogant teenager. They both knew that.
"Gentlemen, gentlemen, calm down," Sunmi declared, raising her hands up in the air despite the objects she still withheld making it difficult in the slightest. "Now if you'd excuse me. Jin, if you want your mouth to stop bleeding I'll have to give you some pills for that. They're also newly approved by the government!"
Did literally everything have to be approved by the government? Jungkook hasn't ever recalled seeing any illegal drug once on the planet, maybe the government didn't give a flying shit about what kinds of mysterious and dangerous creations that out were there.
Unlike Deimos, where medicine was outlawed unless it was specifically prescribed by their top doctors. Students weren't even allowed to lay their stubby little paws on over-the-counter drugs. Believe it or not, some illegal drugs were merely harmless.
The two places were polar opposites, the north and south poles of a magnet.
"If you poison me you'll be dead by daylight," he groaned and snarled back.
Sunmi mindlessly ignored his words as she crouched down before him, placing the small velvet pouch on the cement ground besides Seokjin. She set her now free hand on the cap of the water bottle, unscrewing it and showing that it hadn't been tapered with.
"You'll feel better, I promise," she said while pouring some of the substance out onto the cloth rag in her hand and dampened it.
Seokjin found himself just about jerking his head away in trepidation from her touch when she began to dab at the blood staining his skin and lips.
But instead of that, he calmly attempted to contain his ferocious action by visibly relaxing in comprehension. She was only trying to help his current state by cleansing him thoroughly, to void his tan skin of any crimson colors.
After a short moment, he let out a short grumble, his lips pulled into a bonny pout, "Can't you just untie me and the others? I can take care of myself y'know. I'll be good, I'm a good boy too! I promise!"
Jin's bizarre behavior and speech wasn't news for any of them at this point. They all had known him tediously enough to know about how interesting he could be.
"I know what you're capable of, so I'll leave you with a stern 'no'," Sunmi clarified, groaning in pure frustration when Seokjin started coughing up blood-contaminated phlegm.
He hadn't lost exactly a lot of vital fluids after the bleeding had begun. However, Seokjin ended up hacking up several more wet coughs before blood came splattering out of his mouth onto his jeans. It streamed down his chin, onto his broad chest, around the same region of his contusion.
"Jesus fucking christ," Sunmi hissed in agitation.
He only grumbled, choking on his own saliva and extraction, "Do you really think that I'd physically attempt to do something to you after I told you I didn't want to have sex with you because you were drunk?"
Sunmi's actions came to a halt, her eyes hooded over with drought as they expanded in realization. Cherry colored lips parted in a soft matter of awareness as she stared straight ahead at the younger male's worried expression.
Seokjin did really care for her, she was like a sister to him.
Nevertheless, the two teenagers behind them still stayed seated in awe as they observed the dramatic scene unfold. Two friends —two foes reconnecting and repairing their wonky relationship was what they saw from their own points of view.
Sunmi wasn't a bad person. Jungkook and Jimin both knew that.
"I– I. . . y-you left me! And you think that's a good thing? You're suck a fucking prick!" The raven haired woman defended, sending a harsh slap straight to Seokjin's hot cheek. "You think that's the right thing to to do? Leave me all alone in a stupid bar while I'm drunk?"
His head wrenched to the side at her actions, Seokjin clamped his eyes and mouth shut, knowing very well that he did indeed deserve that hell of a slap. He exhaled through his nostrils steadily, Jin accepted the confirmed fact that he was an asshole.
She obviously didn't understand Seokjin's point, and what he was trying to inform her about. Truth was, he really didn't want to take complete advantage of a drunk person in the wrong state of mind.
He knew in the back of his head that she wouldn't have tried to initiate copulation with him, even if Sunmi was perfectly sober.
"I didn't want to take advantage of you, we both know that you'd never fuck me when you're sober," he simply stated, a frown tugging at his wet lips, he really did have the gall to bring such a sensitive subject up. Seokjin regretted even mouthing a word about the topic. "Look, I'm sorry."
"But you still left," she left it at that.
"I know."
Silence consumed the bizarre atmosphere, nobody dared to utter a single word. Sunmi decided to continue her task of attempting to deterge Jin's face once again. He didn't protest, noticing how her mood had completely shifted to a dejection.
The hostage decided to let her take care of his condition, the feeling of drowning in guilt consumed him entirely. It still remained existing even when she reached into the small pouch to pull out a small caplet, Jin let her place it on his tongue.
Seokjin felt paradoxically more ashamed when she held the water bottle against his lips, he hesitantly opened them, downing the liquid and medicine in several long gulps. The man determined to tilt his head backwards so that Sunmi could gain better access to him.
It strangely evoked him of how Namjoon used to take care of him at dusk, when he was injured, scared, or experiencing one of his usual night terrors. His significant other had always been there for him, even when they were enemies who both possessed so much hatred for the other.
But they fortunately fell for each other's deeming charms.
Seokjin dearly missed him and Namjoon probably thought that he was a corpse by now, like how he's supposed to be.
Reality made him almost let a short whine slip past his tongue when Sunmi pulled the plastic bottle away from him.
"You three must be starving, aren't you?" She suddenly spoke, her voice filled with worry, alarming the others in the room. "I'll make sure to bring some food if you answer what I'm about to ask you."
They all nodded in unison, of course they were very famished and exhausted from the series of unfortunate events that occurred earlier.
Jimin quickly cleared his throat, "May I ask a question?"
"Shoot," Sunmi angled her head in his direction, placing the plastic-contained liquid on the cement flooring as she leisurely arose.
The turn to speak freely was now in his possession, and all eyes were fixated on him.
"Why exactly did you kidnap us?"
"What an interesting question," thought Jungkook, being sarcastic to his own psyche.
Jungkook found himself almost blurting out the fact that she should have informed them moments earlier when they first woke up from their torturous nap. Instead she went on and on about bickering with a moody Seokjin.
Hopefully Sunmi had an ethical reason behind all of this madness, the chaos that she caused herself.
"Well, I was originally going to stop you from committing suicide by driving into a horde of spiderants. But I knew that coming up to your car and telling you to drive the other way wasn't an option since Jinnie here doesn't know how to listen to me from past experiences.
I know, I know that paralyzing him was wrong but, he was the hardest target to get. And I did what I had to do. It's not a good reason either, but I still have a few questions to ask you now if you'd let me."
A spiderant was a usually vicious and territorial creature that resembles a large insect. These creatures have striking features, especially their elongated heads, four sharp limbs, and their curved abdomens.
The alien-like, animalistic insects have a skull with a secure exterior which is thickly armored like their perilously sharp forelimbs.
Some spiderants also use a projectile attack to defend themselves from enemies. They eject semi-transparent egg sacks from the end of their unshielded midriff to launch minacious attacks on their targets.
Most of these projectiles can range from a small size of a grenade to a large explosive mine that can detonate over a vastly immense area.
Jungkook had exact knowledge about this species after being on Earth for such a brief time. In fact, he had encountered one of the horrific creatures himself, but it wasn't merely pleasant, and he barely survived the assault of the menacing beast.
Seokjin suddenly tore him from his extensive series of notion when the reverberate of his voice just about cut through the deafening silence, "That's a dumb fucking reason, nobody would just kidnap someone, paralyze them, and drug them with some ass knock out gas.
You probably just kidnapped me to get in my fucking pants, huh?" He ceased for a hasty moment, collecting his wild imagination. "You just want a fucking excuse to say that you had a good reason to abduct me and my fucking friends! I can't even go see my significant other because of you!"
The room fell silent for what was the second time, Sunmi just flinched at Seokjin's harsh words. There just was so much sorrow and emotion in his tone, he was wounded. No, crushed, betrayed, anything that involved sadness could explain how he currently felt.
"And don't even say that you're sorry, you don't need to since you're already mad enough at me. We'll forgive each other eventually," he added, watching as Sunmi quietly nodded in contentment, remaining almost speechless.
"We both have our own issues to solve," she had the last word, "but the part that I said about the spiderants was true, and some of what you just said is too."
Seokjin parted his lips to muster a reply, but he was unfortunately interrupted as someone beat him to words.
"C-Can we just please stop arguing for once? I just wanna get out of here," Jungkook quietly chimed into the conversation.
Jimin definitely had to agree on that. When his question was answered by both parties, he couldn't chose just one out of either of them to believe. Part of him knew that Jin was right, and maybe Sunmi was too.
"We all can't get what we want," Sunmi declared, "but yes, I'll try my best to stop. And so will Jin."
"Thank you," said a quivering Jungkook.
Jungkook absolutely deceived seeing the two argue before him, they were like immature children at recess. But they also did have their own opinions and expressive points as a matter of fact. Both of them deserved an apology from each other for the things which once remained unsaid, and also for the wrongdoings committed in the past.
Then Sunmi inhaled an overlong jiff, "Now, I'd like to know your names, and exactly who you two boys are."
