Chapter 8

The next day after I had breakfast Cathryn came to work on some more things I'd need to know. Because this week we would be going out to do things in town. I was anxious because it was my first time. But the king and queen would be going and I was princess so it made sense I would go. And because soon this would be my full time job. Cathryn stepped out to get Robere. We had another ball this weekend and I needed a dress.

I took this time to call Cam and Sadie. Hoping they would be awake with the time change. "Hey you, how did the ball go last night!?" Asked Sadie excited. "Yea did you see a cutie, have you found the one?" Asked Cam. I laughed. "I met two nice guys, there will be different people coming every weekend and so I have time. But I did meet the girl who would take over if I decide not to do this." I said. "Ah, and she's? Nice?" Asked Sadie. "No, not even a little bit." I said. "Well you can't let her take over your kingdom you must save it from her clutches!" Said Sadie. "She's a cousin, I think..." I shrugged. "Oh those are fun!" Cam said. "How's the jobs going? Did either of you meet a doctor or a fellow counselor?" I asked. "I might've hit things off with the life guard but don't make a thing of it. I'm not sure if he's interested..." Said Sadie "Oh I need details as soon as you have them!" I squealed. "Will do." Said Sadie. "And still no cute doctors. It's okay I have a new plan in mind. When we come down at the end of the summer for your coronation. I'll just marry somebody and get a title. Boom." Said Cam. "Oh I can introduce you!!" I squealed. "Yesss!!!"

Robere knocked on the door. "I should go but I'll see you guys." I said. "Wait I wanna hear about the skateboard dude!" Said Cam. "Later. I gotta go." I said. "Okay bye." They both said at the same time.

"My canvas. You look beautiful this morning. How did you like the dress?" He asked. "It was perfect. Fit like a glove." I said. "Well, we do that again. What color you like?" He asked. "Can we do a Jade green, straps. Thin, all the way to the floor? Maybe add some crystals to the bodice?" I asked. "Yes, I think that would be lovely." He said.  "Thank you." "You know, I like a you. You have many good ideas." He said. "I'm just trying to be the best I can be." I shrugged. "No trouble, I like it. I stock your closet with clothes for your outing this week." He said. "Good, thank you." I said. "I go now, to get started on this masterpiece." He said. "Can't wait to see it." I said. He left and Cathryn stepped back in.

"Okay so let's go over your outing for this week. We just signed a new clean water act here. Big deal. Your grandparents pushed very hard for it. See not everybody had good drinking water. It was about 20% of the people that needed. It took a few years but the pipes have been ran. You wear a nice outfit like pants and a fitted shirt, silk maybe. And we will have the ceremony. And they've asked you to turn the knob to turn the water on!" She exclaimed. "That's big." I said. "I know but you've got this." She said.

"What if I don't want to be queen? I then don't get to be a princess. And all of this is for nothing." I said. "Not for nothing. If this gives you any clarification on what you want out of life then it was all worth it." She said. Yes I see her point as well. But if I give up then me turning on the water meant nothing. "Look, those people are so grateful to finally have clean drinking water. No one is going to say "I can't drink this swill because the girl that turned it on was a princess and now she's not!" She said. "You're right, when you say it that it sounds silly." I said smiling. "I believe in you, if that makes you feel any better." She said. "You do? Actually it does." I said.

She helped me pick an appropriate outfit out of my closet. Then we went back to work. "Now everyone knows you are coming. Everyone is going to turn out to get a look at the mystery princess and the girl who is going to take over their kingdom. So remember what you should do?" She asked. "Yes, wear the gloves. Don't sign anything. Accept all gifts. Be polite and friendly." I said. She looked up surprised. "Actually yes, that's exactly what you should do. But don't give away any information. Sometimes journalist will badger you. Only give positive answers. Such as don't say you might go back home. Because they might spin an article saying the country lies in your hands and that things are unstable." She said.

"That's not true at all, if I step down the wicked witch of Levoux steps up." I said. Cathryn stifled a laugh. "I'm not fond of Morgan myself but she would make a fine queen." She said. "But she's not nice, don't Queens need to be nice to their subjects?" I asked. She laughed. "She is, I think she's just threatened by you. She has been training for this her whole life." She said. "That makes me sad." I said. "Why?" She asked confused. "Because I'm taking her job. I mean nobody knew about me but still. If I become queen she will have to do something else. And she spent her whole life working towards this only to have to do something else." I said.

"That is a trouble isn't it?" She said. I nodded. "Am I allowed to as queen give her a job?" I asked. "You mean like in the palace?" She asked. "Just anywhere. I'll find a good job for her so she won't be mad at me." I said. Cathryn chuckled. "This is why you will make a good queen. Yes I suppose we can figure something out." She smiled. We talked until it was time for lunch.

We had some fancy meat, that was maybe chicken? But I think it was just wishful thinking. "What is this?" I quietly whispered to my dad.  "Goose." He whispered back. Okay I ate some of it. But it wasn't great. Kinda like chicken...only not. But I knew as queen I could choose the meals. But even now as princess I knew I had to keep up appearances. I pushed the greens around on my plate. I picked at the fancy potatoes. The queen finished eating so we had to stop. I wasn't sure if I was mad or not.

I excused myself from the table to get changed. I don't know if I could skate board on an empty stomach but I had to try. Once I got to the park I saw Andy already on his board. Dang it why didn't that boy ever put a shirt on? I bit my lip. You're staring. I shook my head. He turned, saw me, smiled and waved. Then he started to show off. He did a fancy move and bit dust hard. I mean he hit the pavement.  I ran over to him. "Oh my gosh! Are you okay?" I asked leaning over him. "You know what, I'm regretting not wearing a shirt right now." He chuckled looking up into my eyes.

No, behave. "Here let me help you up." I said extending my hand. He groaned. "How bad is it?" He asked turning around. "Your elbows are bleeding! Oh no." He chuckled. "No big deal. Here come help me." He pulled out two Band-Aids handing them to me. I opened them and gently applied them to his arms. I took a seat on the bench. "You need a minute." I said.

"So tell me more about you?" He asked. Friends did that, they did I swear. "What do you wanna know?" He asked. "Any siblings?" He asked. "Nope only child." "You every wished you had a sibling?" He asked. "Some days. What about you?" I asked. "I have two older brothers. The oldest one is taking over the family business one day. But we mostly get along. I mean it's weird. I'm different than the two of them." He said. "Nothing wrong with that." I said. "Not at all, how are your friends liking their summer jobs?" He asked.

"I think they are liking them." I nodded. "Great." He smiled. "What about you, who's your best friend?" I asked. "Gabe." He said. "Does he skateboard too?" I asked. "Nah, he's a gamer. He's going to school to design video games. He's so good about finding these amazing video games that nobody has heard of." He said. "Sweet." He nodded. "I'm feeling better, shall we?" He asked. "Don't you wanna put a shirt on?" I asked. "Nah I survived once." He said. Dang it. He was supposed to say yes. I would just pop in my music and do my best to ignore him. But he didn't make it easy.

After about an hour I needed to take a break. I was starving. "Woah, was that a fighter jet?" Andy asked laughing. "No, I'm starving. We had goose or something weird for dinner." I shivered. "Then we need burgers and fries!" He declared. "Yes, oh please I haven't had a good burger and fries since we got here." I said. "Come on I'll show you where to go. And then I can give you the grand tour of this lovely little town of yours." He said. "Thanks!" I gushed following him out of the park.
