Hopeless
Since this basically our last place, I am feeling kind of nervous. What if we don't find anybody? We will be unhappy until death do we part! I can't say 'I do' and lie to all of my people. I don't know how to explain all the feelings flooding my senses, and I just start to sob. Royce, who was in the wagon next to me, placed a hand on my shoulder.
"It will be alright. I promise. We will find somebody-"
"But what if we don't! We will be forced to kiss at the alter!"
"I am sure something can be arranged against it. If not, stage kiss."
"We will be unhappy forever."
"Come on. I'll have a few affairs, you'll have a few affairs. It won't be that hard to work around."
"But I don't want a couple of flings here and there! I want someone to go to dinner with! Hold hands with in public! Embarrass them and give them an apology kiss in public! I want a public relationship with the woman I choose to love!"
"Then we better find you one. Find me a mans on the way. We will get through this. I promise you that much."
We stole this wagon from some dude, and we def plan on returning it on our way back. I ain't no thief, I'm a borrower.
Anyway, we had half a month to the kingdom of Quiantipina, and our supplies were plentiful enough to up our rations for the trip. That means a mid-day snack for us. This time, we brought some chocolates, so we had something else to eat. It is a hard thing, eating only jerky. It sucks. But you must do what you gotta do.
The trip was long and very cold, we had to stop to build a small fire so we wouldn't die a couple days before our arrival. The snow didn't make this journey any faster. We were four days behind schedule, which isn't a big deal considering how long we planned on having extra.
The kingdom had basically no guards around the perimeter, and they were practically allies with everyone around them for months. It would be a disaster if you were to try and attack this place. You wouldn't make it a few feet inside of these walls before your troops are gone.
We made our way to the nearest inn, looking out for posters which didn't seem to make an appearance, luckily. I don't think we would be able to stay long enough to find a suitor at that point.
Ro caught a few girlies checking me out, me seeing a few mans doing the same for him.
This kingdom is pretty wealthy, so we saw a whole bunch of McMansions around, all kinda looking the same in terms of architecture and style.
They all had a mini-tower, which is cool, I guess.
The front desk reminded me of a log cabin, although there was not one log that was real wood. It was all made of this weird stone that looks like wood but is more insulated. It was pretty cool if you think about it.
We went to our room and set up camp for the next week. I had to find Ro a man before I found a girl. He is picky and stuff, so it will be hard, but I believe in us.
And when we got all situated, we walked down from our rooms. The front desk was having a chat with a few Lyandrio guards. She noticed us and gave us a quick glance. The guards played no mind, but we casually walked out and booked it once outside.
All of our supplies were up there, including a change of clothes. But luckily, I keep my wallet on my person at all times. It is easy to forget a purse, but pants? You're always wearing those.
Now we only had one option. Take the weeks journey to Riampitria. This will be the absolute last place other than Yorteska, of course, that we can find suitors.
We have traveled all over, and we haven't been able to find anybody.
"I feel hopeless, Ro. What if nobody will love us? What if we don't love anybody?"
"Then we will have to be platonically married. I promise I will not ask anything of that sort of you."
"But we have to give birth to a son or daughter who is able to run the kingdom after our old age sets in."
"We can adopt!"
"Our people won't accept it! It wouldn't be of royal descent."
"We could give it a go. Besides, we have two quick stops on the way. I promise we'll find somebody."
"There was a time. A long time ago. I have a lovely place to call home. My father looked at me with the sweetest smile, opened his arms, and we chatted for hours. We would talk about how good of a ruler I would make. How strong I would be as a leader. Now, look at me. My father thinks I'm a disgrace-"
"He never said that."
"But it's what he thinks! He won't let me marry whom I choose because of some old rule he could change with the snap of his fingers!"
"And why do you think he could do that?"
"He's the king! The king makes the rules! And the fact that he hasn't already changed it means he hates me. Right?"
"What if he can't change the rules? What if he can't, and he hates seeing you like this?"
"Then he should just send someone to kill me right now. Someone to slit my throat and put me out of my misery."
And we stayed silent as we fetched the carriage. We were completely silent for about an hour into the journey to Riampitria.
"There will come a soldier who carries a mighty sword. He will tear your city down, oh lei oh lai or lord. Oh lei, oh lai, oh lei or lord. He will tear your city down, oh lei oh lai oh lord."
"There will come a poet whose weapon is his word. He will slay you with his tongue, oh lei oh lai oh lord. Oh lei, oh lai, oh lei oh lord. He will slay you with his tongue, oh lei oh lai oh lord."
"There will come a ruler whose brow is laid in thorn. Smeared with oil like David's boy, oh lei oh lai oh lord. Oh lei, oh lai, oh lei, oh lord. Smeared with oil like David's boy, oh lei ooooh!"
And we sang. We sang one song we were told never to sing as children. Solder, Poet, King. It was sung by our people when we revolted against the Jeturpians. They ruled most of these kingdoms back then. We were the first to revolt, and this song was the one song that made everything blow up and spread around like wildfire.
People sang it at church, during ceremonies, in front of the main castle, rocking their children. It was our song, and my parents didn't want Royce or I singing it. All the other children taught it to us, though. We sang it in secret.
And we made our way to Riampitria. The kingdom that will hopefully have our suitors.
