*Shadow's POV *
"I can't believe he's dead." The echidna said as he stood beside me.

"He really tried." The brat said with a sigh.

The pups were asleep beside me on the couch, I had put pillows around since everyone wanted to see them.

"Did you and Sonic decide on names?" The pink brat asked.

"Before everything happened we decided on Maria and Zen." I explained as I kept looking down at the pups as they cuddled up together.

"Shadow," The fox said and I looked up. "are you okay?" I was taken back by the question. They were Sonics friends but they cared about me too.

They had been here every day for the past week helping me with the pups and making sure we were doing okay. I thought they were doing it for the pups but Rouge had pulled me aside and told me they were all worried about me. They knew what I was going through was tough and wanted to let me know they were there for me too.

"Yes." I answered with a nod then picked up Zen when he started to cry.

"You can relax now, you know?" Rouge said softly as she reached for Zen to help me with him but I didn't let her. "Come on, Hun. You know you can trust me." She gave me a soft smile and I hesitated but I nodded and passed the pup to her.

All I could think of was to protect my family. But there were no more threats, there was no one else trying to hurt them but every time I closed my eyes, I would wake up in a panic thinking they were going to attack again.

I didn't want to lose my family again. That's why everyone was here, they were making sure I knew nothing else would happen. They were there to help and every day they reminded me that after the news came out that I killed both Fleetway and Eggman, no one else dared to get close to my family.

I wanted to keep it that way. I wanted to make sure everyone was scared of me. I would do anything for them.

"Shadow..." I looked up and immediately relaxed. "We are okay now, remember? You saved us. No one will ever hurt us again." Sonic said as he stood in front of me with his crutches. I grabbed his hand and made him sit on my lap.

At this point in my life I didn't care if the others called me soft or they saw the way I acted with Sonic and the pups. I just wanted to be with them, I didn't care what they tought of me.

"He really thought he'd get away with it too." The pink brat said as she picked up Maria when she started to cry.

"No one will hurt us again, Shadow." Sonic whispered in my ear.

Sonic had died right in front of me, I couldn't help but feel happy to have him in my arms again and to feel grateful to the fox who managed to bring him back and save his life.

"I'm done!" The fox shouted from the front door. "I told you you didn't need any of this but you're all set anyways. Not even the castle is this safe." He laughed as he twirled the wrench he had then put it away.

"You're being over protective." Sonic giggled.

"Over protective? I'm just trying to keep all of you safe." I answered.

"But we are, Shadz." He giggled again then pecked my lips.

The pups were passed back to us as they were falling asleep again. Everyone left and it was just us left sitting on the couch watching our pups purr and cuddle up to us. I carried them all to the bed, even Sonic as I laid down beside him. He put them on top of my chest fur making them curl up on me and ourr loudly.

"I love you." I said to Sonic as I kissed his forehead.

"I love you more." He purred then kissed me.
