Part 3
"Hey," Mira said softly as she found me leaning against a tree. "Are you alright?" I nodded, but kept my back to her. "Come on, Haru," he said, putting her hand on my shoulder. "I thought you said you wanted to watch Fuji's match. It's almost over, you know. Let's go back now."
"You can," I whispered. "I'm not going to watch a match like that." Just then cheers could be heard not far away. We heard them cheering 'Seigaku' over and over again.
"He won, Haru. Let's go back now." I inhaled and then nodded, facing her.
"Fine," I said and we ran back to the courts.
"You did it, Fuji!!" Momo said, patting Fuji on the back. He sat on the bench as their coach, Coach Ryuzaki, examined his knee.
"There doesn't seem to be any broken bones," she stated, "but I think you should go to the hospital."
"Right," Fuji said, "but after this match."
"Naturally," Coach Ryuzaki said. Ryoma then walked onto the court facing Sanada Genichiro. I was more focused on Fuji, rather than Ryoma's match. He noticed me staring and smiled at me. I slightly blushed and looked at the match.
"Game and match to Seigaku!" the referee shouted about 30 minutes later.
"Yay!!" Eiji shouted. "We did it!! We did it!! We won the Kanto Tournament!!"
"Nice work everyone," Oishi said, Eiji still cheering in the background.
"Great job, Eiji!!" Mira congratulated him as we walked over to them. I fit my pointer finger through the hole in the fence and poked the back of Fuji's neck. He turned around and I smiled at him.
"Nice work," I said. "Genus," I added teasingly. He smiled and stood, not even wincing at the pain of his knee, although I could see it on his face it hurt. People were going onto the courts, so I walked over to Fuji. I took his left arm and put it around my neck.
"What are you doing?" he asked, a little confused.
"Don't try to hid it," I said. "I've known you since we met in grade school. I know you almost as good as Tezuka." He smiled and finally started to lean on me for a little support.
"Let's get you a cab to the hospital," Oishi said. The team and the first years walked to the street, getting to the street. They stopped a cab and Fuji got inside.
"Go with them, Shima," Oishi said to me, watching Inui get in the cab with Fuji. "You want to, don't you?" I tried not to blush, but couldn't help it. "It's alright," Oishi said, handing me a piece of paper. "Call me if anything happens."
"Ok," I said, walking over and getting in the car. Inui in the passenger seat and I sat on Fuji's left. The cab drove away and Inui started a conversation with the driver. I looked over at Fuji's scratched face and lightly touched the scratches with my fingers. Fuji got surprised and I quickly took my hand away.
"It's alright," he said. "I don't mind." He looked back out the window and I smiled. Then I slowly lay my head down on his shoulder. His grunt was barely audible, but I sat back up.
"Sorry," I muttered, blushing and looking away. We arrived at the hospital a few minutes later and Inui, Fuji and I walked inside.
"I'm here for the appointment I called for about 15 minutes ago," Inui said to the nurse at the front desk. She nodded and pointed to Room #5. We walked over and saw a bench and desk inside. The three of us sat on the bench while we waited for a Fuji's doctor to come in. A minute or two later he did, wearing a white coat over a blue shirt and pants. He had a stethoscope around his neck and black framed glasses.
"So what happened this time, Fuji?" he asked, sitting at the desk.
"He just wants to check and see if his knee is broken," Inui said. The doctor nodded and bent over to touch Fuji's knee, noticing me.
"Who is this young lady, Fuji?" the doctor asked.
"This is my classmate, Haru-"
"Haru Shima?" the doctor asked, looking up at me. "Would you like to see you're-"
"No," I said a little loud. "No, but thank you," I said more calmly. "I'm fine today." The doctor nodded as I got a look from both Inui and Fuji.
"My name is Doctor Rei Wakashi," the doctor said. "It's nice to finally meet you." I nodded, knowing what he meant. I didn't realize it at first, but the hospital we were at was the one my father was at. He'd gotten very ill lately with an unknown disease and the doctors have been trying to find him a cure. Most every doctor knew my family and some knew me, but I guess Doctor Wakashi wasn't one of them.
"So what was Doctor Wakashi going to say?" Fuji asked when we were in a taxi going to Seigaku.
"Well," I looked out the window and sighed. I told them about my dad, and they looked at my sympathetically. "Most every doctor knew my Mom, my sister Kikia and me, but I guess Doctor Wakashi wasn't one of them."
"So why didn't you go and see him?" Inui asked.
"I thought I'd go with my Mom and Kikia later for dinner," I said. "It is a Saturday, so that's what we usually do."
"Kikia?" Inui asked and I nodded. "I had a run in with that girl the other day and she had a water bottle in her hand. She told me it was ice tea, but I think it was something else." I was shocked to hear that, especially since she was only a year younger than me, making her a second year student.
We arrived at Seigaku and went straight to the courts where the regulars were doing a training session. Fuji went to the bathroom and I watched the guys play. When Fuji didn't come back, I got worried and when looking for him. I was about to turn the corner when I heard Fuji talking to someone. It was Kikia.
"So will you come?" Kikia asked and Fuji sighed.
"If I don't get caught," Fuji said and the two of them walked off. I then turned the corner and walked straight ahead to the tennis courts. By the time I got there, I had broken into a run.
"Everyone!!" I shouted at the regulars. "Help me!!"
"What's wrong?" Ryoma asked when they were all gathered around the outside of the court.
"It's Fuji," I said. "I think he's going to get into trouble!"
