Chapter 3

This picture has no relation to the chapter, Just wanted to draw angry boi Shadowscale...

When Shadowscale saw the colors of his mother's scales... he knew he f***ed up. Though, to be fair, it was the same way when he vanished his second hatching day, for the first he was too young to be in his own room. However, this time was different. He came back after dark, unlike last year when he came back just before Suntime began. And instead of just green with worry (like the last time), Queen Glory had speckles of dark red, pale green, and orange as she paced back and forth. Deathbringer sitting beside her, looking equally worried as thoughts of worse scenarios entered his mind. Firefly was nowhere in sight, perhaps sleeping in her room.

WHY IS HE GONE SO LONG!? Her mind roared. WHERE IS HE!?

Shadowscale's own scales went pale green as he entered her line of sight, hunched low as he proceeded with caution towards his worried mother.

He stepped on a branch that snapped, causing both parent's attentions to snap in his direction.

There was a long pause as the parents stared at the child, and he back to them. The tension becoming so thick, Deathbringer debated taking out one of his assassin discs and seeing if it could actually cut it.

Then finally, aqua started to pool over her pale green as well and green, indicating that she was relieved, yet the dark red and orange remained.

He lightly perked up, hoping that that was a good sign, as small bits of sea green started to envelope his stars. Then, the dark red started to consume every scale on her body until she looked as if her name should have been Scarlet of the SkyWings.

"Where. Have. You. BEEN!?" The Queen roared causing his scales to revert back to a terrified pale green. "DO YOU KNOW HOW WORRIED YOUR FATHER AND I HAVE BEEN!? HOW WORRIED FIREFLY WAS BECAUSE SHE DIDN'T KNOW WHERE HER BIG BROTHER WAS!? SHE WAS BLAMING HERSELF FOR YOUR DISAPPEARANCE AND IS CRYING HER EYES OUT IN HER ROOM!!!"

He lightly opened his mind then realized it was a big mistake. He immediately tried to shut it again when Glory's furious, paranoid, and worried mind screamed with every fiber of it's being. However, he couldn't, so instead, he tried to seek out a calmer mind to focus on.

Deathbringer's was no better, though he remained silent, his mind too was screaming about all the possible ways he could have died. Though, death by dragon-eating sloths seemed very unlikely to Shadowscale, he didn't feel like pointing that out though for a number of reasons.

He then seeked out the mind of his sister, and it broke his heart.

Why Shadow... why... I should have stopped you! Where are you big brother!?

The sorrow that engulfed her was too much. He didn't wait till Glory was done scolding him. He bolted towards her room.

"AND WHERE DO YOU THINK YOU'RE GOING MISTER!?" She called after him as she stormed down after him, Deathbringer not far behind. He slammed open her door causing her to jump with a yelp and turn towards him. He didn't wait for a reaction, he lunged towards her and embraced her in a tight hug. Tears welling in his eyes as he buried his head into her small shoulder.

"I-I'm s-s-s-so s-s-s-sorry Fire!" He sobbed out. "I... I didn't m-mean t-t-t-to worry y-you!"

Silence. Dead silence. The only sound coming from both dragonets' silent sobs as they clutched each other as if they where the only thing keeping the other afloat in their sea of tears. The parent's just watched, Queen Glory's anger immediately dissipating as indigo and rose pink marched through her scales and her enraged scowl morphed into a smug smirk.

Yes, these are MY dragonets! She thought with pride. Well...

She glanced down towards Deathbringer, who was also smirking at his dragonets, though his was an attempt at a proud-father-smile. She brushed his hing with her own and smiled at him as he glanced towards her.

...our dragonets.

They smiled at one-another and entwined their tails before turning their attentions back to their children.

When they pulled away, and calmed down, Glory started. "Well... it seems you learned your lesson!"

The dragonets turned to their mother, who was not trying and failing to hide her smirk.

"However, that doesn't mean you can walk away freely. So tomorrow, you are coming with your father and myself to meet with our new visitors, WHO where SUPPOSED to meet us TODAY but SOMEONE had to worry us TO DEATH!"

Shadowscale glanced down at his talons and nodded. That's reasonable.

"So, go to bed. I don't want you dozing off. They are important ambassadors from Queen Ruby herself!"

"Yes mother." He replied. He glanced at his little sister with an apologetic look one last time before slipping out of her room and making his way to his own.

"Oh, and Shadow?" Glory called, causing him to look over at her. "Just know that we love you."

Shadowscale smiled softly. "I know."

~☆~

The next day, Shadowscale and Firefly followed their parents to the up the tree from the royal residency to the "throne room" where they'll be meeting these ambassadors.

I wonder what Peregrine is doing right now. Shadowscale wondered as he and his sister landed behind their mother and into the room. And I wonder who his parents where meeting? Is it a NightWing? Or perhaps one of our healers? Some RainWings have left for other places and perhaps they accidentally sprayed someone with their venom?

He pondered as he followed his mother to her throne, where she sat down so elegantly. Deathbringer stood tall at her side, surprisingly serious looking, but perhaps it was only a facade for their guests. Firefly sat beside her mother as Shadowscale made his way over to stand by his father. He glanced over at his sister, who sat regally, with her tail resting gently over her talons and he did the same. He gave a side-log glance towards his father, who gave a slight smirk and a wink before returning to his uncharacteristically serious face.

It was still and quiet, but not tense.

Alright, so, they are coming to give me a letter from Queen Ruby, and then discuss a trade deal for some fruits from the Rainforest. I had no idea SkyWings would be obsessed with mangoes and papayas! I guess Jade Mountain really does teach dragons new things, not only about each other but also about themselves... Queen Glory continued to drill on as Deathbringer began to think. My Moons she's gorgeous! I should tell her majesty to always stay that beautiful Royal Purple with teal color scheme!

But Firefly's mind range the loudest.

I'm Boooooooooooooooooooorrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrred! I WANNA PLAY!

Shadowscale had to muster all his willpower not to laugh. It was so typical of Firefly.

Well... Again, the flash of his sister's angry face flashed before his eyes. For now that is...

Just then, they heard three pairs of thumps coming from the entrance of the room, snapping the family from their respective thoughts.

The first to catch Shadowscale's eyes was the large male to the left. He was tall and slender, like most SkyWings, yet he had a ring of spikes clustered on his neck and the whip-like tail. He had pale yellow scales with white underbelly and wing membrane. His eyes where warm, yet they where as blue as ice.

The other was female, and unlike the male, was unmistakably, pure SkyWing. She was a deep red color, ruddy brown running down her spine. Her underbelly was a light cream color, and so was her wing membrane. Her amber-brown eyes swept across the royal family before her, as if assessing each and every one of their threat levels. When satisfied, she began to speak.

"Greetings, Queen Glory of the RainWings." The female said with a low, respectful bow. "I am Robin of the SkyWings, and this is my husband, Owl of the IceWings and SkyWings, and this here-" She started, motioning to the smaller dragon who Shadowscale didn't notice until just then, and caused him to go rigid. "-is our son, Peregrine of the SkyWings."

Lol, well... this got interesting XD

Hope you enjoyed this chapter!
