Prologue
Once upon a time, a princess was stolen from her family and locked in a tower for eighteen years. Day after day, the princess was trapped in that tower with very little to do to keep herself entertained. After years of doing the same things over and over again, the princess longed for more, she longed for freedom.
Then one day, a handsome and dashing thief found his way into the tower, where he was promptly bashed in the head with a frying pan. After all, the princess had never seen a man before in her life, of course she was scared. But after talking with him for a bit, she found him not so scary, but rather...alluring.
So the princess strikes a deal with the thief: he will take her to see the floating lights and in return she'll give him back the crown he stole. The crown that she didn't know actually belonged to her. And so, the thief helps the princess escape the tower.
Together, they faced many challenges and fought many enemies...one of them being the princess's wicked mother, who wasn't really her mother, but the woman who stole her and raised her. And they also made friends with a bunch of thugs who turned out to be not so bad. They even helped the thief escape prison so that he could go rescue the princess from her wicked "mother".
But, sadly, the wicked woman had stabbed the thief just before her defeat. And even sadder, the thief died of his injuries, leaving the princess heart broken because she had begun to fall in love with him. As the princess cried for her lost love, her tears fell upon the thief and magically brought him back to life....
"...and that, Julian...is how I met your mother." Eugene told his five year old son as he tucked him into bed.
"I like it when you tell me that story, Daddy." the little boy giggled.
"Except, I don't like the part where you died." Julian pouted.
"Neither do I, kiddo." Eugene replied, sitting on the bed next to the young prince, who immediately snuggles up against his hip.
He runs his fingers through Julian's soft brown hair in a soothing manner to get the boy to fall asleep.
"When's Mama coming to say goodnight?" Julian asked with a small yawn.
"Soon, she just has to finish up some queen duties." Eugene told him.
A few minutes later, Rapunzel comes into her son's room, tired from a long day of work as queen of Corona.
"Sorry I couldn't tuck you in, sweetheart, mama had a lot of things to do." Rapunzel said sitting on the edge of Julian's bed.
"It's okay, Mama." Julian said sleepily, finding it hard to keep his eyes open.
She leans down and kisses the top of her son's head.
"Goodnight, my sweet baby." Rapunzel whispered as Julian fell asleep.
Eugene also gives his son a kiss goodnight before slipping out of the bedroom with his wife. After quietly closing the door, Rapunzel and Eugene went to their own bedroom to get ready for bed.
"Do you think I'm working too much? I feel like I've been neglecting Julian lately." Rapunzel said climbing into bed with Eugene.
"Sunshine, if you're overwhelmed, you know you can just let me take a few things off your plate. Running this kingdom is just as much my responsibility as it is yours." Eugene wrapping his arm around his wife and kissing her temple.
Rapunzel leans into his embrace, laying her head on his shoulder.
"We should do something this weekend. Maybe a picnic. It's been a while since we've had some quality family time." Rapunzel suggested.
"That's a great idea, hun, Julian would love that." Eugene agreed.
A year after Rapunzel was crowned queen was when she got pregnant with Julian. Everyone in the kingdom had been excited for the new prince's arrival, especially Eugene. The former thief was very excited to be a father, he was determined to give his child everything he never had. Frederick and Arianna were also very excited to be grandparents, but became extremely paranoid once Julian was born. They really didn't want a repeat of what happened to their daughter, they didn't want Rapunzel and Eugene to feel the same pain they felt for eighteen years. Eventually, their paranoia faded and the triple security around the prince was lessened. Julian was the perfect combination of both his parents with his mother's big heart and his father's quick wit...he also had Rapunzel's green eyes and freckles, and Eugene's good looks (according to Eugene).
"Goodnight, Rapunzel." Eugene said as they settled under the covers.
"Goodnight, Eugene." Rapunzel replied.
Then a chirp-like noise comes from above.
"Goodnight to you too, Pascal." Rapunzel chuckled, glancing up at the chameleon's perch.
"Yeah, goodnight, frog." Eugene mumbled, already half asleep.
The next day, Rapunzel makes plans and shifts around her schedule so that she can have a nice picnic with two of her favorite boys.
