Chapter 5
"We are finally going to be free from this place," Gemma whispers to me as she pulls away. She grabs my hand and turns away from the house and towards the road. I glance over her shoulder and see a carriage waiting for her, inside was Prince Louis.
"We're getting married you know," Gemma informs me. I didn't know what to think about when it came to their wedding. I know it was bad of me to want to marry the Prince myself, but it was their relationship that got me out of here.
"Louis agreed to let you live in the palace with us!" She says excitedly as she enters the carriage. I follow after her, examining the inside as I did so. The carriage was gorgeous and held so many fine details. Prince Louis sat on one of the seats smiling as he noticed us.
"Hello, Love," Louis says. He kisses her check as she takes a seat next to him. I sit on the opposite bench, looking at the couple. They were holding hands and Gemma was kind of snuggled into the prince. The gesture was nice, but I found myself become sick with jealousy.
"So, Harry, tell me about yourself," The prince starts. I had no idea what to say. There was nothing interesting about me and even if there were I wouldn't know what to tell him. I had no clue where I stood with the man. He was about to my brother-in-law, but he was also the prince. I sneak a glance at Gemma for help.
Gemma was always quick on her toes for she answered, "Harry and I are really close for full siblings!" I guess it was something semi-important. This was why I always preferred for Gemma to speak on behalf of all of us.
"Really?" He faces her and looks truly interested in her story. She nods at him before leaning in a pecking his lips with hers.
"Yep, after our mother passed away we've gotten really close," Gemma explains. I look down at my hands as they lean in to each other. The feeling of jealousy erupts in me again.
Why was I feeling these things? I shouldn't be feeling this. He was about to marry my sister and I was getting jealous of her? That was definitely frowned upon especially since I really loved my sister. I wanted the best for her and if that involved letting her have the prince than I should let her.
"So, when's the wedding?" I ask, I wanted to show Gemma that I really did care about this. Even if it involved faking a few kind words. I furrow my eyebrows as I see them go in for a deep kiss. Neither of them looked up at me to answer. I wait a moment, furiously, before repeating myself a little louder.
Gemma removes her lips from the Prince's and smiles at me, "Oh, I'm sorry Harry. What did you say?"
"Nothing, it doesn't matter." I answer, smiling. I glance at Louis who seemed slightly upset. I raise an eyebrow, but he shakes his head.
"So, the wedding is going to be soon," Gemma says. She grabs Louis' hand, causing him to smile and look at her.
"Yep, pretty soon I'll be the king and you'll be my queen," He tells her. I watch as the fake smile slips up his lips. I was probably just being hopeful, but the happiness didn't seem to reach his eyes.
"Aw, you're so sweet!" Gemma exclaims, as she kisses him again. Louis pulls away first and looks down at their hands. Louis opened his mouth to say something just as the carriage stops in front of the castle.
"It's huge," Gemma whispers. She looks at me and smiles one of her impressive smiles. All the feelings of jealousy and anger slip away as I see how happy she looked to be here. She deserved this happiness.
"I'll have to show you around at some point," Louis points out. He opens the door and slides out. He turns, his back facing Gemma as she climbs out. He turns around in time to see me and leans a hand to help me down.
"Thanks," I mutter. I try not to think about the touch too much, but my mind was racing. His hand was slightly clammy, but they were so soft. They seemed as if they would be nice to hold, lucky Gemma I guess.
"No problem," He answers. Louis smiles and takes Gemma's hand, leading her inside the castle. I follow, slow enough for them to have a conversation without me hearing, but fast enough to not get lost. We pass through the grand doors and make our way to the second floor of the castle. The stairway was close to the entrance so I didn't get to see most of the first floor. Louis said that I wasn't missing much since the first floor included the kitchen, dining rooms, and ballroom. He also told us that the second floor was where the rooms where and the third and fourth floors were mainly offices and stuff. The prince comes to a stop in front of a set of huge double doors. He opens them and shows off the space inside.
"This is where you'll be staying Harry. Of course this will only be temporary. My father wants you to start working in the castle if you're going to stay. Once we figure out which line of work you'll be going down you'll move in with the rest of them," Louis explains. He was pointing to a 'small' quest bedroom. When I walk in I see a gorgeous king sized bed with velvet covers and huge pillows. An oak dresser sat in the corner almost untouched.
"Looks cozy," I say, as I sit on the bed and feel the covers. I look up at Louis and smile at me. I was really going to enjoy staying here.
"It is," Louis grins. I stand and follow them out. He leads us in the opposite direction of my room. He comes to a stop at another set of doors. When he opens them he shows us a smaller looking room. The walls were painted a pale pink and a small dresser sat against the wall. A desk sat in the corner with a mirror hanging above it.
"Gemma you'll be staying here until the wedding. I know it's kind of lame, but my dad doesn't want us sharing rooms until after we're wed," He explains. Gemma grins and steps inside.
"This is huge," She says.
"It's one of the biggest rooms," He tells her. She smiles and heads back to the doors. He leads us down to the next set of double doors.
"This is my room. It's kind of messy, so I don't want anyone to go in there yet. Of course, I want it to look it's best before I show it to you, Gem," The prince adds the last part as if it was an after thought. He had a nickname for her already? I had lived with her my whole life and she had never made an effort to use any nicknames.
"It's fine," She says. He gives her a weak smile.
"Well, that about wraps it up. Gem, my father says he would like to meet you downstairs upon your arrival. Harry, you can go back to your room I guess," The prince says. I nod. It would take me forever to navigate this place. The prince grabs my sister's hand and he drags her down the stairs. Once they're out of eye shot I grin. I wonder what the prince's room looked like.
I was about to open the door when I heard a voice.
"Who are you?" I turn and nearly jump out of my skin when I see a girl. She looks to be in her mid 20's. She wore a cream colored dress and had her hair cut so it was layered. She wore a scowl and looked like she could probably take on an adult man in a fight and win.
"Um, I'm Gemma's brother, Harry," I tell her. She rolls her eyes, which were a light brown. Her hair was a dark brown, almost black.
"Who is Gemma? I'm sure she doesn't hold an authority, what are you doing up here anyway?" She asks.
"Gemma's going to be the future queen and my room is down the hall," I tell her.
"Oh, well my name is Joan. Don't bother asking me for anything, because I don't care," She adds. I huff, so much for a warm welcome. I turn and start back towards my room, my plans of checking out Louis' room gone.
"What did you say your name was again?" She asks. I turn to see her hand was on the prince's room door handle.
"Harry," I say.
"Harry what?" She asks.
"Styles," I call back.
