Chapter 14
Louis' POV
I lay over Harry's motionless body. It pained me to see the dark red spot in his stomach. I touch his neck, searching for a pulse. I nearly cry out as I feel the faint pulsing veins beneath my fingers.
"Nurse!" I call. I turn and see that one of the castle nurses had made their way down here and was checking out the guards. The plump, old lady made her way over to me.
"Shot? That's not good," She huffs. With the help of two large guards she carries Harry up the stairs and to the infirmary. I stay, not sure if the news I would hear was good or bad.
"Why did you do that?" I snarl at the cage. The cage that made Harry rethink himself and the cage that may have caused his death. The boy's stepmother walks into the light and grins.
"I wanted to see him die of course," She says simply. "That boy has had it good for to long," She sighs.
"His life was made hell because of you," I snap. She shrugs.
"All people must go through hell before they can go to heaven," She huffs. A feeling of utter hate and loathing washes over me as I look at her. This woman couldn't talk about how 'good' Harry's life has been, because of her Harry had to live a miserable live.
I roll my eyes and turn, before I say something I regret. I walk to the dungeon doors, stopping short by a pool of Harry's blood. I feel my head start to throb and I sink to the floor as I let my memories take hold of me.
I hear the bang, long before I see the gun. I shout for Harry to move out of harm's way, but he doesn't.
"Harry!" I shout, my throat becoming scratchy from all the yelling. Harry turns to Leigh-Anne and his eyes widen as he realizes, all too late. I hear the thud as the bullet sinks itself into Harry's mid-section.
Harry looks down at his stomach and falls to the ground. I run to him, falling to my knees, and catch him. I hold my hand behind his neck and place the other on his cheek. Two more bangs go off and I turn to see where the other bullets had gone. I see tons of guards tackle Leigh-Anne, the gun flying across the floor. I see a bullet land in the wall, but I don't see where the other goes.
I hear a scream from a cell and angry yells from guards. Leigh-Anne goes down without a fight, letting the guards chain her up. I turn back to my Harry and let out a sob as I see the blood soaking his shirt.
"Hazza, please stay with me, please," I tell him. I see his eyes dart around the room. He whimpers underneath me, his eyes fluttering with every breath.
"Harry, please!" I shout, I see that his eyes were starting to cross and it was becoming harder for him to keep them open. I rock back and forth on my knees, letting large tears fall from my eyes. I see that Harry's eyes close and I shout.
"No! Don't close your eyes Harry, don't die on me!" Harry opens his eyes slightly, I could tell it was becoming harder for him, but I needed him to fight. I let myself sob, not caring what others thought of me.
I scream as I hear a laughter come from the cell next to me. I see Harry let out a weak frown of pain as his eyes shut.
"No! Harry, please!" I sob. Harry doesn't open his eyes, and his breathing becomes shallower.
I bring my hands against my head, begging for the memories to stop. It was hard enough to see him die once, I didn't need him dying again in my dreams.
"King?" The voice gets softer towards the end of the word. I turn to see where the voice had come from.
"Hello?" I call. I look around, trying to figure out who was talking to me. I see no one near me anywhere and become confused.
"In here," They say. I walk towards one of the cells to see a boy. He walks into the light and I gasp as I see blood coming from his arm.
"What happened?" I ask. I shouldn't care about the boy, but he looked so young. He couldn't be older than Harry by much and that saddens me. What could this boy have done to be locked up here?
"I was shot, one of the stray bullets hit me," He explains. I had no idea what I was supposed to do, I couldn't just let him out, but I couldn't let him bleed to death either. A guard makes his way down the stairs and I call for him.
"Go get one of the nurses. Tell her someone was shot," I tell him. He looks from me to the boy, assessing the situation. He slowly nods and leaves.
"What's your name?" I ask. The boy clears his throats before answering, "Niall."
"Well, Niall, I want you to tear a piece of cloth from the bottom of your pants and wrap it tightly around your arm," I recall from an old health textbook I had read. He nods, leaning down and ripping a piece of fabric off his pants. He looks at the wound and whimpers as he starts to wrap the cloth around his upper arm.
"So, Niall, what landed you here?" I ask, partly to distract him from the pain, and partly out of curiosity.
"I was being 'abusive' towards my younger stepbrother," He grumbled, putting air quotes around the word abusive. He got in prison for abuse? At his age, he should have been told off with a warning, especially if it was towards his younger brother.
"Well once your better I would love to offer you a job in the castle," I tell him. He looks up and grins at me. I knew I would probably have to go through a few hoops to make it happen, but I knew it was the right thing to do.
"Are you serious?" He marveled.
"Yeah, of course," I reply, shrugging.
"Louis!" I turn and see Anna standing in the doorway of the dungeon staircase.
"Anna? What's wrong?" I question. She takes a long deep breath before answering.
"It's Harry, they think he'll be okay," She cheered.
