Four 🌷

Knowing how much Josh craved his longing for freedom, Debby decided to sneak him out of the castle for a walk.

When they arrived at the village, Josh was confused on why Debby brought him there.

"What are we doing here?" He asked.

"There nothing like some fresh air and a change scenery. I thought that would take your mind off things."

The prince smiled.

"I wish it were that simple."

Debby helped him out of the carriage. Josh looked to Jim, whom he brought along with him.

"Come on, Jimmy."

The dog followed along as the prince and his tutor looked around the village; taking in the sites around them.

"Ah, it feels so good to be outside the castle walls, and nobody knows who I am." Josh said.

He looked to Debby; almost reaching for her hand.

"So, which one was your house?"

"More of a room, really." Debby replied. "We couldn't afford a house."

Hearing this, Josh felt bad.

"Oh, I didn't mean..."

"I know." Debby said; smiling.

She pointed to a nearby building.

"Third floor on the left. Did all my studies there."

"Nice."

The two smiled to each other, then kept walking.

Approaching a bouquet of roses, Debby handed Josh one, which was pink and bright.

"A perfect example of 'rosa centifoila'."

"My favorite." Josh said. "But, you knew that."

Nearby, Josh started smelling something glorious.

"Mmm, that smells delicious."

Debby took Josh's hand.

"I'll be right back."

She let go and went to go get something for herself and the prince.

While waiting, Josh began to hear a beautiful voice.

"Like a bird that flies in the morning light, or a butterfly in the spring. When your spirit rides on the wings of hope, you'll find your wings."

The prince was entranced by the voice, he decided to find out who it was.

"Let's go listen, Jimmy."

As they walked through the crowds, Josh saw a beautiful boy singing among the people.

He had vanilla brown eyes, fluffy brunette hair, and he was dressed all in rags, with a black hood to cover it all.

Either way, Josh saw him, and he looked even more beautiful than him, with the angelic voice to go along with it.

"For you're always free to begin again, and you're free to believe. When you find the place that your heart belongs-"

"Caroling?!"

The boy gasped.

"Madame Colleen!"

The crowd rushed away, and the angry woman snatched away the money that was given to him.

"Wait! I earned that!" The poor boy cried.

"And you owe me!" Madame Colleen shouted.

She pushed the boy to the ground.

"Did you really think you could make a living as a singer?"

The boy looked down to the ground; ashamed.

Madame Colleen got in his face; pressing her hand under his chin.

"Get back to work, boy, or there'll be trouble."

~

After the wicked woman left, the boy got to his feet and picked up his cup, but Josh came over and put some money in it.

"What a beautiful song." He said.

"Thanks." The boy replied. "My mom taught it... to me."

The two looked at each other. When they removed their hoods, they saw that they looked so much alike.

"Whoa." The boy said; amazed.

"We could be brothers." Josh said.

"What's your name?" The both said; at the same time.

The boy chuckled.

"You first."

"Please, call me Joshua."

"Joshua? You have the same name as the prince."

He shrugged.

"Well..."

The boy knew instantly.

He curtsied before him.

"I'm Tyler, your highness."

"Wonderful to meet you." Josh replied.

The two started walking together.

"So, aren't you supposed to be inside the castle?" Tyler asked.

(Start song)

"I'm savoring a first and last taste of freedom before getting married next week... to a total stranger." Josh said.

"At least you're not an indentured servant." Tyler said.

Josh looked to him.

"Indentured servant?"

(Tyler)
If I'd like to have my breakfast hot
Madame Colleen will make me pay
And I have to fetch the eggs myself
And the barn's a mile away

It's cold and wet, yet still I get
An omelette on my plate
But in my head, I'm back in bed
Snuggled up and sleeping late

"Really?" Josh asked.

"Really." Tyler replied. "But, it's all right. I mean, I'm used to it. And, you?"

"Well..."

Tyler was curious.

"Well?"

(Josh)
If I want some eggs, I ring the bell
And the maid comes running in
And she serves them on a silver tray
And she brings the cookie tin

And while I eat, she rubs my feet
And strolling minstrels play
But I'd rather be in my library
Reading science books all day

Tyler twirled around his new friend; smiling.

(Tyler)
I'm just like you

"You are?"

(Tyler)
You're just like me
There's somewhere else we'd rather be
Somewhere that's ours
Somewhere that dreams come true

Yes, I am a boy like you

You'd never think
That it was so
But now I've met you and I know
It's plain as day
Sure as the sky is blue

That, I am a boy like you!

After hearing this, Josh was filled with delight.

"So, you're a singer?!"

Tyler sighed.

"No. I work at Madame Colleen's penitentiary."

The boy corrected himself.

"Uh, I mean, Dress Emporium."

When Josh heard this, he got excited.

"I love Madame Colleen's dresses!"

"I made the one you're wearing." Tyler said.

"You made this?" Josh replied. "It's my favorite! But, the design looks so complicated."

"Oh, but it isn't really."

Tyler began to demonstrate how he created the dress.

(Tyler)
First I choose a fabric from the rack
And I pin the pattern down
And I stitch it in the front and back
And it turns into a gown!

(Josh)
I wear the gown without my crown
And dance around my room

(Tyler and Josh)
And imagine life without the strife
Of an unfamiliar groom

Josh frowned.

"But I'd never let my mother know. I wouldn't want to disappoint her."

"I completely understand." Tyler replied.

The two boys joined together and dance in happiness; finally known for their dreams and hopes, along with their similarities.

(Josh)
I'm just like you!

(Tyler)
I think that's true!

(Josh)
You're just like me!

(Tyler)
Yes, I can see!

(Tyler and Josh)
We take responsibility

(Tyler)
We carry through!

(Josh)
We carry through!

(Tyler and Josh)
Do what we need to do
Yes, I am a boy like you!

(Tyler)
I'm just like you!

(Josh)
I'm just like you!

(Tyler)
You're just like me!

(Josh)
You're just like me!

(Tyler and Josh)
It's something anyone can see!

(Tyler)
A heart that beats!

(Josh)
A heart that beats!

(Tyler and Josh)
A voice that speaks the truth!
Yes, I am a boy like you!

The two boys, filled with determination to reach their dreams, have finally found a true friend in one another.

Their never ending friendship was formed.
