I rap on the door jam, announcing my presence to Mr and Mrs Roux. They look up at me from their scattered places in the living room, "Yes, Basil?" Mrs Roux inquires. 

"I would like to speak with you." 

Mr Roux crosses his arms and eyes me suspiciously from his la-z-boy recliner as Mrs Roux gestures for me to take a seat. I inhale and make direct eye contact with them, one at a time, "Spit it out." He sighs. 

"Mr and Mrs Roux, I love your daughter Zipporah. She means the world to me and I don't want to see my future as one without her. We haven't been dating for long, but I wanted to talk to you and ask for your blessings to propose to and marry Zipporah if it is her wish."

"Oh my goodness..!" Mrs Roux gasps with excitement and disbelief, clasping her hands over her mouth. Mr Roux sits tensely with fists curled, piercing me with his icy gray blue eyes, "David! This! He's-!"

"What of your family and the company?"

"I have decided to take over Rask Industries and denounce my claim to the throne. My parents, Grandfather, and my eldest brother and his wife support my decision to propose to Zipporah."

"What if we were to say no? What if Zipporah turned you down?" I frown.

"I would keep trying to earn trust and respect from you, her family. If Zipporah turned me down I would hope to know why. Truly, I wouldn't know what to do besides nurse my broken heart." Mrs Roux's eyes twinkle and she looks at her husband, then at me.

"Basil, Zipporah would not have developed such a profound relationship so quickly if she did not love you. Zipporah is very much in love with you and you make her whole and happy. So yes, you have my blessing." I exhale with a relieved smile then turn back to Mr Roux.

"Zipporah is a rare woman. You're lucky to have her as your girlfriend. But,.. will you still love and defend and work beside her in, say, ten years? Twenty? Are you willing to work and grow with her?"

"I swear I will, Sir." He exhales and leans back.

"You'd better keep to that vow, young man, or else you'll find yourself single in a snap. I won't have history repeat itself," My heart swells, "You have my blessing too."

I don't remember much of what followed, but the grin doesn't leave my lips at all.
