The Pretty Pick - 10

Margaret had hidden in her room the rest of the night, avoiding Eddie and his ways. She had noticed, more so in the past few days, that he had some weird effect on her. Margaret had always been an upbeat and confident person, she hadn't felt nervous since telling her father she wanted to play guitar. Yet, she always felt nervous when she was close by Eddie Munson.

She lay in her bed the next morning, getting up a lot later than she had done the morning prior just to avoid him further, in fact, she'd decided a shower would do her good, and so that's where she went.

The fluffy white towels draped over her arm as she exited her room, Eddie looking through to her from the sofa.

"Do you need anything in the restroom before I shower?" She was trying her best to seem civil, not friendly. Eddie just gazed over at her, not knowing what to say. He knew that he didn't need anything, but he hated how passive she sounded.

Funnily Eddie was not an overly confident guy on the everyday, he tended to run and hated the idea of any confrontation other than making a random dig at Jason, mostly because he knew nothing would come of it, but with Margaret he felt his confidence sky rocket, when she was talking to him that was.

"Nope"

"Good" as she spoke she was closing the door behind her, locking it quickly and exhaling the breath she'd been holding.

The warm water dripping down her skin made her forget about it all, even just for a few minutes. The thoughts of Chrissy, Eddie, this upside down place that she had never been to and it was not a place she necessarily wanted to visit.

Dustin had described these monsters to her in the car ride the other night, what the looked like, how they killed people, even who they killed.

It had freaked her out, of course in obvious ways but mostly the idea that Dustin had spent all these years dealing with these things and she wasn't there to protect him. Steve may have been but knowing something could've happened to him and she wouldn't have been there to stop it?

She ran her hands over her slicked back hair to squeeze some of the water out.

Now she knew about the upside down, you could be damn sure she'd never let anything happen to him. Ever.

Eddie could hear a hair dryer going continuously for practically ten minutes, he had wondered just how much hair this girl had on her head. He had grabbed a  magazine on from her table and was looking through the glossy, yet boring pages. He'd started reading about how a woman can tell if a man likes her.

1. He will do anything to speak to you.

His brows creased.

He thought back to yesterday, that he wanted to talk to her even if it meant arguing- the dryer stopped. His head lifted in an instant and the magazine was thrown back to the table.

The door unlocked.

It opened slowly, teasingly.

He watched a smooth looking leg be the first body part of hers to exit, his eyes trailing up her leg until he reached the white towel that sat just low enough to cover what had to be covered. She came out the bathroom with a towel on. She hadn't changed in there?

The sound of her clearing her throat captured his attention.

He'd been staring at those damn legs.

He let out an awkward um and looked ahead of him, rather than to his right where she stood.

He felt his whole body tense as the screeching sound of the phone ringing found his ears, "I shouldn't have gave him this damn number" she muttered while walking across the room to Eddies left side to answer.

Dustin. That much he'd guessed by now.

It seemed she only gave the number to those 4.

She put a hand on her hip while Eddie listened to the inaudible rambling down the phone. It made him smile and stifle a laugh at the idea of what he could possibly be saying.

"I thought I was to stay out of sight with him?" This made his smile fall, where was she to go? Why?

She tilted her head to the side while listening in to what he was saying.

He had asked her to meet them at the school, he told her he couldn't explain at the time but he'd let her in on everything when she arrived. Eddie listened as she told him she way just out the shower and couldn't be there at the drop of a hat like he was demanding.

She let out a loud sigh as she put the phone down.

"Is everything uh- okay?" His voice came out awkward and oddly low. Something he tried to fix at the latter end of the sentence.

She turned her head to face him, sucking in a breath.

"It's Hawkins, is anything ever okay?" she huffed before stalking towards her bedroom. The question he knew to be rhetorical.

She'd taken the long route, through the woods just by her trailer, she decided to walk it, didn't want anyone seeing her car and knowing who she was. Even with the lateness it calmed her. Being alone. It always had.

She didn't feel quite so calm when she reached the high school, the dark and eery looking high school.

Jesus Christ. This would be fun.

One of the large glass windows was open, she'd known it would have been dustin, she was climbing through a damn window for Dustin. A table conveniently pushed over to the other side for her to land on.

She'd realised again how dark it was.

Her hand fell to her side on the table, clutching something cold and metal which made her jump. Only to realise seconds later that it was a torch, a torch with a sticky note over it. A note she had to turn the torch on to read.

Margaret :) from Dustin we are in and Kelley's room.

A smile found its way to her lips. He may be a pain in the ass but he was one of the sweetest kids she knew.

She made her way toward the open classroom door with the lit torch in her hand. The corridors echoed ever so slightly while she walked down them. A cool chill finding her cheeks.

She continued on her search for Ms Kelley's room along with everyone else. At the top of one corridor she knew she'd to turn left, until she saw the back of someone to her right.

Max?

She made her way down, torch facing downward to avoid frightening her. Max didn't turn to look in her direction once, too focused on the far wall which looked no different to the usual state of a wall. Margaret stopped behind the girl looking intently to try and figure out what she was looking at.

"Max" she spoke quietly while lifting a hand to Max's shoulder, feeling her fright as she moved to face her, watery eyes met Margaret's, "hey, what's wrong?" She used her other hand, still holding the torch to pull Max into her for a hug.

Max's hands wrapping around her quickly.

She held one hand over Max's shoulder down her back and the other to the back of her head. She could feel Max's heavy breathing.

Eventually when feeling Max push back she released her from her bear hug, still keeping a hand on her shoulder, "you can tell me" she let a smile lift her mouth, waiting for Max to speak.

Max didn't even let Lucas see her this way. She didn't know why but she felt this crazy bound with Margaret. As if she could tell her anything.

"You didn't see that?" Her voice was trembling as she tilted her head to the wall, Margaret's brows creased in confusion, "the grandfather clock?" She confirmed what she'd seen. Margaret felt her heart sink, why was Max seeing things?

Now that she thought about it, Chrissy had been acting like this.

Her eyes widened. No.

She wouldn't allow this to happen to Max. Over her dead damn body.

"You seen a clock there?" Margaret nodded towards the wall, gaining a curt nod back from the girl in front of her, "Max you looked like you were in some sort of trance" the final word making her stomach drop, again thinking of Chrissy.

"Margaret, you're here!" The voice of Dustin Henderson caused the two girls to turn their heads to the right.

"They we're having headaches, bad headaches that just wouldn't go away and then the nightmares" Max began rambling on about Chrissy and Fred, while Margaret, Dustin , Steve, Robin and Nancy listened, "troubling sleeping, they'd wake up in a cold sweat and then they started seeing things" Margaret stood from the chair she was sat in, "bad things from their past" Chrissy had spoken of her mother a lot the past week, "and these visions they kept on getting worse and worse until eventually everything ended"

"Vecnas curse"

"Chrissy's headaches started a week ago, Fred's six days ago" Max swallowed harshly, "I've been having them for five days" Margaret's eyes shut over at the thought, "I don't know how long I have, all I know is that for Fred and Chrissy, they both died twenty four hours after their first vision" she paused raising a hand, tears filling her eyes, "and I just saw that god damn clock so, looks like I'm gonna die tomorrow".

"Max-" Margaret had began talking when the metal sound of a door opening made everyone stop, turning to the door.

"Stay here" Steve whispered grabbing a large lamp, making Margaret doubt him even more.

"Did he just?" She uttered.

"I believe he did" Robin chimed in. Everyone, one by one did the exact opposite of what Steve had asked and followed him out into the hallways, the closer to the far end the louder the sound of running became.

"Ahhh!" Lucas yelled throwing a hand up toward the lamp Steve was about to throw his way. "It's me!" He yelled in a terrified tone.

"Jesus what's wrong with you Sinclair" Steve practically yelled so fast it sounded like one syllable leaving his mouth.

"I'm sorry but" he paused, trying to catch his breath, "We have a code red" he walked to Dustin, "Jason Patrick and Andy, they're trying to capture Eddie and they think you know where he is, you're in terrible danger" he continued to heave.

"Alright that definitely sucks" Dustin looked his way.

"We have bigger problems than Jason right now" Margaret turned to look at Max as she spoke.

It looked as if Lucas wanted to speak, he just didn't get the chance to at the sound of car doors slamming. Margaret's eyes connected with Steve. Both knowing who it was.

"You four go that way" he pointed right, "me Dustin and Lucas will head this way" Steve confirmed, getting a quick nod from Margaret before she made her way in the direction she should have followed. Soon finding themselves passing the gym hall.

An idea found it's way to Margaret's mind.

"You guys keep going, head out the back, I'll be two minutes behind you okay" she nodded to the three girls in front of her who all accepted making their way out.

Steve, Dustin and Lucas headed toward the front of the building.

All entering the cantina area. It seemed spookily quiet. Dustin felt the sweat run down his back, worried about anything and everything in his life right now.

He looked to Steve who gave him a sympathetic smile.

Dustin went to speak but stopped at the feeling of a grasping of his collar, he turned his head to see Jason, "shit".

"Shit is right" Jason confirmed, his other two friends grabbing Steve and Lucas, "where is he?" He'd moved to grab the front of his top, nearly ripping it with the pull he had, Dustin found himself on his tip toes.

"I don't know" he let out exasperatedly.

"Tell me" Jason yelled so loud that spit met Dustins cheek. Making him cringe at the feeling, he looked up scared of the murderous look on his face. Dustin had his back to Steve and Lucas who were yelling anything and everything to get Jason's attention.

"Please, I swear I- I" Dustin felt a tear fall from his eye.

"Look at this stuttering mess" Jason let out a cruel laugh, while Dustin continued to cry and plead, "you better tell me, or else- AH" the loud yell frightened everyone else in the room.

Dustin being released instantly while Jason fell to the floor. His eyes finding Margaret stood behind Jason, baseball bat in hand. A bat she'd just battered off the back of Jason's legs.

Jason somehow hadn't broken a bone, however the pain was cutting him in half.

He turned his head to see her, the same as Patrick, Andy, Steve and Lucas had done, "bitch" he snarled from the ground, grasping the back of his legs, "don't just stand there you idiots, get her" he barked more orders to his friends who dropped the boys, following Margaret as she ran back the way, in the direction she came in after whispering to Dustin that he had to leave.

She heard the two boys feet smacking the floor as they ran after her.

Finding her way out into the back of the school, seeing the cars lined up, thankfully no sign of the three girls.

A scream left her at the yanking of her ponytail, her body making a smack off the body of Patrick behind her. Andy who was no where to be seen, considering he'd stopped to catch his breath and couldn't figure out what way they'd gone.

"Get off me" she yelled out.

He refused, grabbing her chin. Still stood behind her.

Her elbow found a comfy spot at his ribs, making him hunch forward hand still in her hair, she didn't know how to fight, she'd never fought anyone. So instead she circled herself round 180, his arm twisting round as she did, a snap being heard from his wrist, making her eyes widen.

She took this opportunity to run.

Run as fast as she could back to her trailer, back to Eddie.
