Chapter One

Two weeks later

"Eve!" My mom yelled.

I groaned as I turned in my bed. The sun was shining through the curtains blinding me.

"Evana! We're going to be late if you don't come down!" she yelled again.

"I'm coming!" I shouted, rubbing the sleepiness out of my eyes.

I got out of bed and and put my hair into a messy bun and walked down the stairs where I was greeted with my mother hassling in the kitchen, my father drinking coffee while reading the newspaper and my brother no where in sight. I sat down on the chair where I was given a cup of hot chocolate. I gulped in down immediately.

"Well, good morning to you too. " my father muttered against his cup.

I smiled lazily up at him.

"Honey, I hope you are ready because we are leaving in a few hours." my mom said.

"Wait, we are leaving today?" I groaned as hit my head against the table.

"Yes, now stop wasting time and go and pack!" She pulled the chair out making me fall down. Thanks mom.

"I haven't even eaten breakfast yet. This is serious child abuse and I know the Lord wouldn't be happy at this!" I exaggerated. My behind was aching against the cold hard tile floor.

I groaned for the third time in the morning as I got up and ascended the stairs. My brother, David was lying on my bed playing on his tablet when I got into my room. " Get out!" I screamed. I love my brother but I wasn't in the mood.

"Sheesh, what crawled up inside of you and died?" he snickered as he left my room.

Once the door clicked shut I sighed dramatically and plopped onto my bed.

My father is an international preacher. He goes to a new church for a few months and then leaves for another. He has been doing this for five years since I was twelve. So I didn't really made an effort to make friends at school because then I would have to cope with the leaving and the sadness and all that...so I was actually a Lone Wolf. Crowning up in a Christian family isn't bad but it gets a little overwhelming when everyone expects you to do this and that and wear a halo over your head. So today we are leaving Dallas, Texas to go to Los Angeles, California. I hope this one would be more interesting than last time. Memories flood back into my mind but I shrug them off.

I put my last article of clothing in my suitcase and zipped it shut. I took quick shower and brushed my teeth. Makeup free, I walked down the steps with my suitcases and was met with my parents and my brother by the door waiting.

"Great, we're all here. Let's get moving," my father said as pushed us out the house and locked it.

As we entered the car, my father called one of the ushers and told them where he hid the key.

The engine roared to life and my dad started driving down the road. I silently said goodbye to the house as it slowly disappeared from my view.

I sighed and slouched back into the seat. This is going be a long ride.

When we arrived at the airport, my mom went to check us in. We boarded the plane fifteen minutes before take off. Even though we do this every couple months I was always nervous. My father sat next to me and my mom and my brother on the opposite side of the aisle. Seeing my uneasy expression, my father squeezed my hand softly and drew circles in them.

"Are you okay?" He asked.

I sighed shakily, "I'm fine, just a little nervous, " hell, I feel like I am going to explode any minute now.

He chuckled softly, "That's okay. I hope you behave yourself this time. "

"What? I am practically an angel." I replied giving him a big smile showing off my teeth.

"More like the devil's spawn but that's none of my business." David muttered under his breath as I glared at him.

"Kids stop it," my mom laughed quietly, " all I'm hoping from you Evana, is that you do great in your classes."

"But I am. "

I wasn't those brain geniuses that get A+ in everything, but I still do good for human. I just hope B's and C's are okay in my mom's criteria.

"And please make friends, I am worried about you, honey." my dad frowned.

"We'll see about that," I winked, "and besides, I bet if I walk up to someone, they'll go the other direction."

"True that." my brother replied. A pen was in my dad's pocket and I quickly retrieved it. As I threw it across the aisle to hit David, it accidentally tipped a drink that a flight attendant was carrying while passing by. She stumbled back, trying to balance it off but it fell over and poured on her apron. She gasped and then grumbled some incoherent words under her breath as she stalked off towards the back.

"Look at what you have done!" my mom scolded as me and brother tried to stifle a laugh.

A few minutes later, another flight attendant came and told us to that plane was leaving shortly and to buckle our seat belts. After she told us about the tutorial for an emergency, the plane took off.

I looked out the window and gazed down as the buildings and cars became smaller. It was a beautiful sight to watch. Feeling tired, I curled myself up on the seat and closed my eyes. Last thing I heard was my father saying a short prayer before I dozed off.

I woke up to arms wrapped around me, shaking me from my slumber. I peeked one eye open and saw my dad standing in front of me.

"Come on, we're here. Let's go. " He held out his hand for me as I grasped it. I looked around my surroundings to see that we were the only ones left on the plane.

When we arrived outside, a cold gust of wind slapped me across the face, making my hair be tangled in the process and few strands got in my mouth while goosebumps arose on my skin. I choked slightly and then internally groaned. God, how embarrassing.

When I brushed it back, my mom and David was next to us. We arrived to the entrance gate and was greeted with a young man who wore a black suit and dark shades holding up a sign that said "The Jacob's", who was standing in front of a black SUV. Knowing it was for us, my dad approached him and signed something on a piece of paper before the young man held out door as we went inside. He closed the door and headed towards the driver's seat where he started the car and drove off.

After a few minutes of silence, he finally spoke, "Welcome to Los Angeles. I hope you enjoy your stay. "

I hope so too, I said in my mind as I slouched back into my seat.
