Chapter Four

I woke up to the smell of bacon and eggs coming from the kitchen. I got out from my thick layer of sheets.

After showering and brushing my teeth I headed down for breakfast.

...~...~...~...~...

After dropping off David, mom brought me to school.

Once we arrived I got out the car quickly and turned around to wave her goodbye before she gets out and give me a hug and kiss. She gave two thumbs up before driving off.

God, I need a car.

I headed towards the office. Multitudes of students flooded the hallway as I pushed my way through the crowd. A lot were in deep conversations.

"Hey, are you going to Jase's party this weekend? He's having this beginning of senior year celebration."

I continued walking until I reach the secretary office. After collecting my timetable, locker number and home room, I headed for the lockers.

After putting all my books into the locker, I flung my backpack over my shoulder and started walking to my first class.

Unfortunately I didn't make that far for the time I spun around, I bumped into something or should I say someone.

My life was not a fairy-tale. In those cliché movies, the beautiful girl would bump into a hard six pack chest. Which belongs to a bad boy or jock who has that chiseled jaw line, defined muscles, deep dark eyes that you can drown in and that irremovable smirk on his pink lips. But that's not it for me.

Laying on the floor is a pale skin guy wearing glasses way too big for his face, and a body so frail, I'm afraid that if I touch him he might break apart.

He got up quickly before I can ask anything and picked up his books. He was blushing uncontrollably.

"Are you okay?" I involuntarily put my hand on his shoulder which caused his face to grow even redder. Persons in the corridor were staring.

"Y-yes I'm f-fine." He spun around quickly and scurried off to his class.

I frowned and walked to mine as the bell rang.

I had English first so I entered the class. The room had only a few persons and I took a seat in the middle. The students start to pile in and almost all the seats were taken up. A girl with blonde hair with purple highlights sat down next to me.

"Hey, you're the new kid right?" she turned to me.

"Pfft," I scoffed, "how could you tell?"

"Well, for starters you look lost and confused, I saw you left the office with a new timetable and you have a sticker on your bag that says 'HI I'M NEW!'"

"What?!" I quickly turned around and peeled the sticker off. Ughh Mom! How long was this on there.?Did everyone see this? This is so embarrassing!

She couldn't stop laughing. "The name's Sarah. You?"

"Evana but you can call me Eve for short. Or did you already knew that. Is it imprinted on my forehead with permanent marker again?" I frantically rubbed at my temple.

"Again?" this time she couldn't hold it in. She sounded like a dying animal to be honest but I ended up laughing with her.

I was going to explain to her about my brother and the marker but I just realized she is a complete stranger and also the teacher just arrived.

Thank God they don't do introductions to new students. Don't want to have that mishap form last time.

Fifteen minutes through Ms. Harper's lecture, the door flung open, and in a strode a guy. But not any guy, this was the cliche movie guy I was talking about. He had dark brown hair, with that jaw bone that can break stone, those muscles that are straining under his tight black shirt finishing off with a black leather jacket and keys that swing loosely from fingers which probably belongs to motorcycle.

"Mr. James, you're late, again. Detention after school!"

He ignored her and strode past and sat down a few seats behind me. His cologne was so intoxicating that it burned my nose and my eyes started to water. Can't this be anymore cliche? I internally rolled my eyes.

"Who is he? I whispered to Sarah.

" Ezrah James. You know, typical bad boy. Does street fights, swears like my grandma when she gets her hand on liquor, has a troubled past, extremely rich and handsome. What else? Oh yeah he is a total douche bag. He's old news."

Ms. Harper then continued on with her lecture on the importance of grammar until the bell rang and everyone scurried off to the next class. I said goodbye to Sarah. Wait, did I just made a friend? Ha! I can finally brag to dad and tell that I'm not socially awkward!

I had Biology now. Great. I couldn't remember where the lab was. I'm not really good with directions. I've been walking for the past five minutes and I believe I'm lost and I am also late for class. Awesome. There were a few persons in the hall but my pride was too big to ask them and I didn't want anymore persons to find out that I'm new.

After ten minutes, my legs were hurting and I finally arrived into class and dramatically pushed open the door and then all eyes landed on me. I probably looked like a deranged animal to them. I cleared throat. The teacher looked at me with a scowl on her face. Oh no. I can't get detention on the first day. What am I gonna do?

"I am deeply sorry for being late m'am but I am new here and I lost my way a bit. It wouldn't happen again," I pleaded.

"Okay, I'll let you off with a warning but next time you'll receive detention. Don't make it a habit." she snapped.

I nodded and blew out a relieved sigh and took the last seat available.

"Okay students, take a good look at the person sitting next to you. He or she will be your partner for the rest of senior year that includes everything you do like experiments, projects and sometimes quizzes."

I turned to see who I was sitting next to and it was the guy from this morning, the one that I bumped into. When his eyes met mine, a blush spread across his cheeks.

"Hey, My name is Evana and yours...." I trailed off.

"A-adam. My n-name is Adam." he adjusted his glasses that was laying carelessly on his nose.

"Okay students, let's start off the first day with a project, in pairs you are to create a comic strip on the dangers of cigarettes on the human body. Due next week Friday."

The entire class groaned and the bell rang.

"Hey, let's exchange numbers so we can talk about this project, yeah?" I offered as swung my bag over my back.

He nodded shyly and we exchanged phones. His fingers were shaking as he was typing in the digits. I tried to surpress a grin. He is too cute. When we were done, I waved goodbye and headed out.

Today has been going good so far. The day past by and it was now lunch. When I arrived to the cafeteria, I saw Sarah sitting alone and she waved me over.

"All alone I see," I said as I sat down next to her.

"What? You thought I was one of those plastic barbie wannabes airheads over there? 'Cause no, I ride alone." She nudged her head and I followed her direction to see a group of girls all laughing. There was this one that stood out. She reminded me of that girl in kindergarten who was too pretty for school. I chuckled at the memory.

"No, not at all," I laughed.

"Are you going to Jase's party this Friday? Everyone who's a senior is invited. I heard it's gonna be 'lit' and 'turnt' so you can't miss it."

"I don't know. Seems sketchy and besides I have youth-" I stopped myself midway.

"You have what?"

"Nothing!" I said quickly and stuffed a wad of fries into my mouth.

"Hmm," her eyes narrowed. "So you coming or not?"

I swallowed. "Hell yeah wouldn't miss it for the world."

We continued eating till lunch was over.

It was now end of school. My father came for me today. I quickly hopped into the vehicle and told him to drive so no one would see me. As my father was reversing, a motorcycle came speeding past and he pressed down on the breaks.

Ezekiah or was it Ezrah revved his engined and sped out of the school. I internally rolled my eyes.

"You see these youngsters! I tell you, I don't want to see you hanging out with this kind of company. You hear?" my father argued.

"Yes father," I sighed deeply.

He drove out the school gate and headed home.
